GARAGE SALE DATES
The remaining garage sale dates for 2018 are June 1 st and October 6 th .
These dates will be advertised on local media and signs are placed at the
entrances early in the week of the sale. Garage sales are not permitted on
any other dates. Fines may be assessed for failure to abide by this rule.
For information and an application for an estate sale, please contact
Preferred Management.
HARVEY RECOVERY
We are now six months following Hurricane Harvey and subsequent
floods, remember that you must request an extension to continue living
in a motorhome or RV in your driveway. Also, please get an extension for
storage containers.
As we get back into our homes, please remember that deed restrictions
are still applicable. While the Board of Directors has instructed Preferred
Management to refrain from deed restriction letters to the flooded
homes, we must remember it is to our benefit to return to normal as
soon as possible.
Letters will begin to go out as reminders that deed restrictions are still in
force. Please bring your home back to meet all deed restrictions.
SUMMER ACTIVITIES
Would you like to see additional activities in our neighborhood? We
would love to have things for our families, but without assistance it is
not possible. The Board of Directors’ members all have full time jobs or
other family obligations that take up much of our time. We are an unpaid
voluntary Board with the interest of Concord Bridge at heart. If you have
ideas for neighborhood activities, get volunteers to help and present
your ideas to the Board. We will back legitimate activities to unite our
neighbors. There were several people at the annual meeting that advised
they would assist in activities and/or serving in various capacities. We
encourage you to step forward with your ideas and volunteers to assist.
Hopefully, we will have movie nights in the park again this year. Watch
for information in the Crier, on the marquees and emails from Preferred
Management.
PROPER DISPOSAL HELPS EVERYONE!
Do you know what to do with leftover used cooking oil and grease?
Never wash cooking fats, oil or grease (FOG) down the drain, as they can
cause the sewer line to back up into your home. If the drain clogs and
causes a sewer line blockage it may cause the back up to flow onto the
street and into the storm drains which flow to our bayous and eventually
Galveston Bay. This material is harmful to the waterways and the
creatures that live there.
Recycle it Instead!
The Harris County Household Hazardous Waste Facility provides a free
residential FOG drop-off site for easy disposal. FOG items can be recycled
into bio-diesel fuels, a feed additive for animals and other processes
that save natural resources. Please do NOT mix FOG with any other
items, such as automotive waste (no auto oils or lubricants) because if
these are mixed they cannot be recycled. Also, please bring your FOG
in a container that we can keep. This service is for residents of Harris
County only. No restaurants will be serviced.
VACATION WATCH
Remember that our constables offer this valuable service. School is out
and the kids are bored. They often are unsupervised and seek thrills in
dangerous and malicious ways. If your home will be unoccupied while
your family is enjoying a vacation, you can complete a vacation watch
form and submit it to one of the officers patrolling in the neighborhood.
There are other services available to local citizens. You can visit the
appropriate website for additional information and to sign up for the
available services. www.constablepct5.com
covers a large portion of Concord Bridge, Eldridge Park, McKindrie Park and various business areas
within the Horsepen Bayou MUD district.
Our contract program is successful with the cooperation of residents and officers. If you have
information regarding illegal or suspicious activities, contact the dispatcher, or flag down one of our
patrolling officers. Dispatch # 281-463-6666.
HOMEOWNERS RESPONSIBILITIES
As a homeowner you have certainly responsibilities. You are obligated to
pay taxes and homeowners association fees. Often people assume that is
the extent of their responsibilities.
There were deed restrictions set forth by the developer of the subdivision
with the intent of maintaining your home’s value.
As many of us have realized recently, these responsibilities often seem
to encroach on our ability to maintain our home in any manner we wish.
However, these deed restrictions are registered with the county and your
association has the obligation to remind us when they are not observed.
Sidewalks are a topic that has been discussed a lot recently. In years past,
the county had often repaired them. However, these are a part of the homeowner’s
responsibility. This work is not the responsibility of Harris County
or Concord Bridge HOA. Homeowners must have and must maintain the
sidewalk on their property.
If you do not have a copy of the deed restrictions for your section in Concord
Bridge, please contact Preferred Management Services and request a copy.
HARRIS COUNTY ALARM PERMIT
A permit is required for all alarms in Harris County. Obtaining the required
permit will avoid the issuance of a citation and excessive false alarm fees.
The permit application can be downloaded from the Harris County Sheriff’s
Office website at www.hcso.hctx.net and click on forms. The application
should be completed and mailed with the appropriate fees to the address
shown on the application. A new permit will cost $35 and annual renewals
are $10. Should you have any questions, please contact the Alarm Detail
office at 713-755-4600 during normal business hours.
You can use this source to report lost
and found animals. This has been a
great help in returning lost and found
animals to their owners. Even if you
don’t have access to Facebook, you can
call 281-468-9414. It is far more efficient
than posting illegal signs all over the
neighborhood. Another great source for
finding a lost pet or reporting a rescued
one is nextdoor.com/concordbridge.
Harris County requires that all pets be
on a leash or confined within your yard.
Unleashed dogs are a nuisance to your
neighbors and other pets. Please pick
up all dog waste and dispose of it properly. Remember, our children play
in the park areas and their yards. It’s very inconsiderate of you to allow
your dog to defecate if others yards and the parks. When walking your
dogs, please be prepared to remove any waste they may leave behind.
TRASH PICK UP
Please remember that our trash pick up days
are Monday and Thursday. Heavy trash
day is Thursday and the trash company is
required to pick up heavy items approved
on their retrieval list. If a holiday falls on
trash day, it will not be picked up the next
day. It will be picked up the next scheduled
pick up day.
CFISD Livestock Show and Sale
LIVESTOCK SHOW AND SALE GENERATES
NEARLY $340,000 FOR PROJECTS
CFISD students and the high school FFA programs showcased another successful
CFISD Livestock Show and Sale, its 24 th year, on Feb. 8 th -10 th at the CFISD Exhibit Center.
Even with the entire greater Houston area recovering from Hurricane Harvey and
the post-storm flooding, the CFISD community showed an incredible amount of
generosity in the live auction, freezer sale and via additional monetary contributions
to students.
Cypress Falls High School senior Jessica Byrd’s Grand Champion
Swine sold to Conda Maze JRP LLC for $31,000, which
set a new record at the CFISD Livestock Show and Sale.
The Premium Sale (live auction) unofficially raised nearly $340,000. Final amounts
from the Freezer Sale (animals not placing high enough for the live auction), Agriculture
Mechanics and Horticulture silent auction and additional gifts to students
are not yet available, but one new record was broken:
Conda Maze JRP LLC paid $31,000 for the Grand Champion swine exhibited by
Jessica Byrd (Cypress Falls), eclipsing the previous record.
“Knowing the tremendous hardship (Hurricane Harvey) placed on the community,
we were prepared for participation to be down,” said Denise Kubecka, lead
curriculum coordinator in the career and technical education department. “When
it came time for students to turn in their entries, we realized our numbers would
once again be strong. In the wake of all going on in the community, families found
a way to keep their children involved in the FFA program. It is always an emotional
experience for me to watch the pride the students exhibit as they walk into that
arena. This year was even more exciting knowing the extra obstacles many students
had to overcome.”
The following Livestock Royalty representatives were chosen:
Show King - Caleb Abercrombie from Cypress Ranch FFA;
Show Queen - Kylie Bassett from Cy-Fair FFA;
Mr. Show Teen - Kyle Green from Cypress Woods FFA;
Miss Show Teen - Allysondra Quijano from Cypress Woods FFA; and
Top Hand (Sales) - Makenzie Cegelski from Jersey Village FFA.
Job Awareness Fair
JA INSPIRE MODELS CAREER AWARENESS TO 9,000 EIGHTH-GRADE STUDENTS
Approximately 9,000 students from 18 CFISD middle schools connected
to potential careers and opportunities in Junior Achievement
of Southeast Texas (JASET)’s fifth annual job awareness fair,
JA Inspire, Feb. 5 th -7 th .
The three-day event at the Berry Center allowed all eighth-grade
students to interact with more than 50 Houston businesses in a
variety of industries.
Each day began with a morning welcome session for all students in
the Berry Center arena. Students were then divided in three groups
that rotated between industry presentations in the conference
center, a soft-skills demonstration in the arena and exhibitors in
the second-floor concourse.
Students were divided up by four endorsement tracks (STEM, business
and industry, public services and arts and humanities) that
they selected beforehand to receive a more specialized experience.
While exploring career stations on the concourse, students spoke
with company employees and industry representatives to learn
more about their businesses.
Speakers in different career fields closed each day. They included
KPRC Channel 2 anchor Rachel McNeill, a Cypress Creek High School
graduate and Heritage Texas Properties realtor associate Lily Jang,
a Langham Creek High School graduate.
“Our eighth-grade students are fortunate to be able to participate
in an interactive experience that provides them with information on
a variety of careers and local employers from the greater Houston
area,” said Dr. Linda Macias, associate superintendent of curriculum
and instruction and accountability. “This will assist them in making
informed decisions when selecting an endorsement and course
selections for high school.”
BUDGET FRIENDLY SPRING BREAK
FAMILY HOT SPOTS
A great spring-break vacation doesn’t need to break the bank. Whether
you’re exploring a cool city or lounging on the beach, you can beat
the winter blues with a budget spring break. Check out these budget
friendly hot spots:
Washington, DC: It doesn’t cost a dime to enjoy Washington, DC’s culture
and history, especially during the Cherry Blossom Festival when the city
is awash in delicate white and pink blossoms. Free events during the
2-week-long festival in early April include cultural performances, fireworks
and a parade. There’s no charge for the main event - the stunning
trees framing the Tidal Basin and around the Washington Monument.
Ocho Rios, Jamaica: Jamaica is a popular spot for the spring-break party
crowd, but families can find fun for a bargain at the Beaches Boscobel
Resort and Golf Club. This all-inclusive resort boasts 5 restaurants, 6
bars and 1 super cool water park with 9 twisting slides and kiddie pools.
Sanibel Island, FL: Spring break falls during Sanibel Island’s high season
from February to April when the weather is perfect and shelling along
the sandy shores is at its best.
Seattle, WA: You can explore Pike Place Market with your wallet intact, if
you can exercise willpower at the nearly 200 shops and restaurants and
both admission and parking are free at the Frye Art Museum.
HOLY WEEK WORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Holy Week represents the last week of Jesus’ life
on earth, beginning with his triumphant entry
into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday and culminating
with his glorious resurrection from the dead the
following Sunday, Easter. This year Holy Week is
from Sunday, April 9 th through Sunday, April
16 th . During this week, Cornerstone United
Methodist Church will be offering a variety of
worship and fellowship opportunities. You are
invited to the following Holy Week worship
opportunities for young and old alike planned
at Cornerstone UMC:
PALM SUNDAY SERVICES (March 25 th ): At the 10:45
AM service, the children will lead a processional in
worship waving palm branches as we remember
and celebrate Jesus entry into Jerusalem. Also at
the 8:30 and 10:45 AM services, the Chancel Choir
accompanied by an orchestra will be performing
their Easter Cantata: “Once Upon a Tree!”. There will
be NO 9:35 AM service but there will be “Christian
Education for All Ages” at 9:30 AM.
MAUNDY THURSDAY COMMUNION SERVICE
(March 29 th ): The word Maundy literally means
“command,” reminding Christians that Jesus
commanded his followers at the Last Supper
to “do this in remembrance of me.” At 6:30 PM,
a Seder Meal hosted by Rev. David Rucker will
be celebrated in the Family Life Center. Holy
Communion will be served.
will lead the celebration of Christ’s resurrection.
THE FIVE LOVE LANGUAGES
Cornerstone United Methodist Church will be
offering to the community a study on Gary
Chapman’s renown “The 5 Love Languages:
The Secret to Love That Lasts” starting on
Tuesday, April 10 th at 7-8:15 PM. This study
reveals how different people express love in
different ways and contains the key to understanding
each other’s unique needs. What
speaks love to you may be meaningless to
your spouse. Apply the right principles, learn
the right language and soon you’ll know the
profound satisfaction and joy of being able to
express your love and feel truly loved in return.
Each week the group will view a teaching by
Dr. Chapman and have the opportunity to
discuss the principles taught both in the small
group and with your spouse. Singles are also
welcome as there will be opportunity to apply
the teaching to relationships with children,
parents and other significant people in one’s
life. Classes will last for 75 minutes and a
nursery for preschool children will be available
by advanced reservation. Each participant
will need a small-group study book, which
can be purchased from the church. The cost
is $10 per book.
Note: Vacation Bible School will be
June 11 th -15 th .
Foster Children: Preparation
For Adult Living (Pal)
When foster children reach age 18, they are considered independent.
That’s difficult for kids who have been wards of the state, with necessities
arranged by caseworkers with state funds. Now they’ll have to figure out
how to organize themselves and make their money last a whole month.
Fortunately, Child protective Services offers them a program to help
prepare for independence: Preparation for Adult Living (PAL). The year-long
course culminates in an all-day workshop hosted by the National Council
for Jewish Women (NCJW). The course is held at Junior Achievement’s
BizTown, using computer kiosks sponsored by local businesses.
Want to help with PAL or other NCJW programs that help change lives
with hands-on community service? Contact info@ncjwhouston.org or
see www.ncjwhouston.org.
Start The New Year With A New
Best Friend And Family Member!
Loving Arms Pet Placement has an assortment of wonderful dogs and cats
hoping for their forever homes. We have all different types of small to large
dogs, mixed breeds and many wonderful cats to choose from.
We are a foster-based rescue for dogs and cats. If you are not ready to
commit to adopting a dog or cat permanently, the animals also need
foster families. Besides providing food, water and a safe place to sleep,
foster families socialize the animals so they are people friendly. Include
the animal in your daily home life inside your home. Get to know them as
individuals so you can share personality traits, likes/dislikes, anecdotes.
Treat the animal like your own and train him/her, if possible.
Although you may feel sadness when your foster animal is adopted, please
know that your efforts helped to prepare the cat or dog for his/her forever
home.
Visit Loving Arms Pet Placement website at www.lovingarmspetplacement.
• Don’t be afraid to file for an extension of time to file your tax
return. It’s better to take your time, file a complete return, and
get the best possible answer.
• On December 22, 2017 Congress passed a major tax bill mostly
affecting 2018 and future years. Do you know how it will affect
you? I can help you find out.
• If it wasn’t crazy before, it is now. On February 9, 2018 Congress
passed a bill which included MORE tax changes, retroactive to
2017. Do you know what they are? I do. Don’t try this at home.
