Ginger is one of those ingredients I just love to
use, whether it’s cooking or skincare! It’s got a
number of wonderful benefits including:
Increased skin radiance due to the fact it helps to
improve circulation.
It’s a natural anti-oxidant which helps to fight free
radicals. (Free radicals are one of the main
promoters of skin aging)
It is known to promote the skins smoothness and suppleness.
Energising and invigorating to the senses.
So as you can see, it’s a pretty wonderful natural ingredient to use and as such, I’ve
decided to share with you some of my favourite ways to use it in skincare.
GINGER AND HERBAL FOOT BATH
YOU WILL NEED:
A muslin cloth
2 inch piece of peeled and grated ginger
An elastic band
5 drops of bergamot essential oil
METHOD:
Wrap your grated ginger in the muslin cloth then secure with an elastic band so you have a
tight bundle.
Fill you foot spa or bowl with warm water.
Drop your ginger bundle in and pour in your bergamot essential oil and give the water a
swirl.
Let the ginger bundle soak in the water for 2 minutes then squeeze it to get the juice out.
Pop your feet in for 10-15 minutes and enjoy!
GINGER AND PEACH FACE MASK
Smells good enough to eat! But obviously don’t...
YOU WILL NEED:
1 flesh of one ripe peach
1/2 inch piece of peeled ginger root
1 teaspoon of kaolin clay
METHOD:
1/2
Simply put your peach and peach in a blender until smooth then add your kaolin clay.
Apply to a cleansed face for ten minutes.
Rinse off the mask with luke-warm water and follow with a splash of cold water.
Pat your face dry and follow with your favourite moisturiser!
GINGER AND LIME SALT BODY SCRUB
YOU WILL NEED:
2 inch piece of cucumber
1inch piece of ginger
1 cup of sea salt
Zest of one lime
Juice of half a lime
1 tbsp of almond oil (olive can be used as well)
METHOD:
Peel the ginger and grate it coarsely
Zest the lime and squeeze out half the juice
Roughly chop the cucumber and place in a food processor with the ginger, lime, almond oil
and sea salt then blitz until you have a gritty texture then pour into a container
In the shower rub the scrub in firm circular movements into damp skin paying particular
attention to the knees, elbows and ankles.
Pat skin dry then follow with your favourite moisturiser.
The scrub needs to be stored in the fridge and will last 4-6 days depending on the
freshness of the ingredients you use. Where possible try use organic produce from your
local farmers market or local greengrocers.
