confirmed at a receiver located 500 metres<br />

away. LED lights on the receiver confirmed the<br />

transmission. This marks a new milestone in<br />

transmission distance and power load (enough<br />

to power a set of conventional kitchen<br />

Solar- powered smart windows with the<br />

capability of being tuned glazing that can<br />

control the heat and light inside a home. It<br />

saves nearly 40% of building’s energy cost and<br />

making the space more comfortable.The system<br />

developed is featured in such a way that<br />

solar cells selectively absorb near-ultraviolet<br />

(UV) light, so the windows are completely<br />

self- powered, inexpensive and easy to<br />

apply to existing windows.<br />

The smart window controls the transmission of<br />

visible light and infrared heat into the building,<br />

while the new type of solar cell (which are<br />

constructed using organic semiconductors -<br />

contorted hexabenzocoronene (cHBC)<br />

derivatives and could absorb narrow range of<br />

wavelengths ) uses near-UV light to power the<br />

system.<br />
