It’s Spring! Well, nearly. After the recent snow apocalypse, you’d be forgiven 

for thinking that the warm weather will never come, but be assured, Spring 

is coiled, waiting to be sprung. 

This time of year is all about new beginnings and you’ll start to see new 

shoots of life appearing soon. With the warmer weather on the way 

(hopefully) you’ll be able to get outside and enjoy it. In our What’s On Guide, 

you’ll find lots of amazing activities to keep you busy this Spring, including 

Easter egg hunts, egg-tastic fun days and lots more during the Easter 

holidays. If you’d like to let us know what your favourite aspects of Spring are 

or if you have some lovely pictures of the world around you, we’d love to see 

them! 

In this issue of Primary Times, you can read about ‘What’s New’ on the

School’s Out Club offer flexible, 

all year wrap-around care 

At Schools Out Club we have been providing families with flexible, 

all year wrap around care for the past 16 years for children aged 

3-14years. We provide the services of early breakfast clubs, after 

school clubs, a later collection from clubs in school, holiday club over all 

school holidays and fun activity days to cover all inset days. 

Our Breakfast and After School Clubs based in Allestree & 

Kilburn support all the local schools and nurseries with our 5 blue fun

Dragons’ Den backed theatre school 

launches a weekend session in Derby 

Derby is set to welcome another part-time theatre school that won the 

backing of ‘Dragon’ Duncan Bannatyne back in 2007 on BBC’s 

Dragons’ Den. With its unique mix of both commercial and musical 

theatre styles of singing, dancing and drama, the Saturday theatre 

school has plenty of opportunities for would-be stars of the stage and 

screen as well as those that want to learn new skills, have fun and make 

new friends. 

Razzamataz Derby is launching on Saturday April 21st at Lees 

Brook Community School, Morley Rd, Derby DE21 4QX. To celebrate its 

launch, the school will be holding an open day where local youngsters 

between the ages of 4-18 can come along and try the singing, dance 

and drama classes that will be available every Saturday during term time. 

The theatre school is run by Shanley Booth who is passionate about the 

performing arts. With a national and international dance career of her 

own she cannot wait to open a second school in the local area.

Little Hatchling Adventures, for 

Little Arboretum Explorers 

With much to see, spot and discover, there’s lots to entertain 

little ones at the National Memorial Arboretum. An inspiring 

place to visit throughout the year, the 150-acre site, 350 

memorials and two play areas found in the grounds provide 

an amazing place for a family adventure, with stories of 

bravery and heroism to be discovered around every corner. 

Little Hatchlings Animal Encounters will return to the 

Arboretum this Easter from Friday 30 March – Monday 2 

April. The free experience, featuring rabbits, guinea pigs and 

other small critters, gives the Arboretum’s young, and young at heart, visitors 

the opportunity to meet, interact with, and feed a host of creatures. Throughout 

the Easter families will also be able to collect a free copy of the Arboretum’s 

Easter trail, which will take families on an exciting adventure around the site. 

Little hands will also enjoy participating in the Arboretum’s animal themed messy 

make and take – ‘Pocket Pets’. Throughout the Easter holidays, until Sunday 15 

April, families will also be able to participate in RAF themed activities, including 

contributing to an airplane sculpture, as the Arboretum, along with the nation,

Adventurers wanted for Easter 

quest at Bolsover Castle 

save 

English Heritage is calling on all intrepid adventurers to head over to Bolsover 

Castle this coming bank holiday weekend and take on an Easter trail with a 

difference. 

The historic property is kicking off its events programme for the 2018 spring 

and summer season with its popular Easter Adventure Quest which will 

take place from Friday 30 March – Monday 2 April 2018. Young explorers will 

meet a character from the past before they set off on their very own Easter 

adventure – an exciting hunt for some legendary dragon eggs. 

Children will have to crack clues and solze puzzles as they explore the grounds 

at Bolsover Castle and their historical friend will be on hand to help them 

with a riddle during the quest. With a chocolate reward on offer to challenge 

champions, this is an Easter adventure which is not to be missed! 

After the Easter weekend, Bolsover Castle will move to its summer opening 

schedule when the property will be open daily. Visitors will be able to stretch 

their legs along the wall walk, explore the Little Castle, Terrace Range and 

Riding House, and children can let off some steam in the play area.

This is Normanton 



This is Normanton is a local history 

project that explores the changing 

landscape of Normanton Road and Pear 

Tree Road in Derby from the 1960’s 

to present day. As part of the project, 

Derby Museums is delighted to host an 

exhibition of photographs and memories 

which celebrates the rich and changing 

communities and culture of this unique 

area. This is a partnership project between 

Fifth Word Theatre and Derby Museums, 

supported by Derby City Local History and 

Family Services Library and made possible 

thanks to a grant by Heritage Lottery 

Fund. This exhibition has been co-curated 

with volunteers and members of the local 

community.
