3DAY
TH
10 MARCH, 2018 | NSCI Dome, Mahalaxmi, Mumbai
He lauded the fire brigade for being forthcoming in
implementing the laws strictly and ensuring safety in
the hotel and restaurant industry. He emphasized that
saving lives was more important than saving property
and belongings. When asked if the government had
done enough to ease the bottlenecks he replied in the
affirmative.
He said that presently a standalone outlet required just
two licenses while a full fledges hotel still needed
around 40. The government was removing
unnecessary regulations, a fact which was
appreciated by the panel. While the industry still had
unresolved issues, there was an effort to ease the
situation.
It was observed by the panel that while newer
technologies and equipment were made available for
the more affluent sections of the hotel industry, the
smaller players still could not afford them. The
hoteliers were unanimous in accepting responsibility
for the safety of their clients. However, while
organized and licensed hotels and outlets could be
monitored from time to time, the unlicensed outlets
were difficult to regulate.
Emphasis was placed on training of staff and it was
suggested that a special monitor or staff leader for
keeping tabs on fire safety and security was being
appointed by some affluent hoteliers but a bit out of
reach for the more modest outlets.
