Desperate Dad
As if we didn’t have enough extra curricular
activities to keep up with, a brand new one
has recently entered our stratosphere.
In addition to football, aikido,
swimming and drama classes,
ballet has now made an
unexpected yet more than
welcome appearance.
Never the shrinking violet,
my comedic youngest has
thoroughly embraced his
artistic side and thrown
toeing the line...
himself headlong into these
new dance sessions with
great aplomb.
It seems he has a real knack
for the theatricals – I can’t
think where he gets it from?
His pointed toe could
have your eye out and
his technique is being
honed every week, he’ll be
Nutcracking with the best of
them in no time at all for sure.
Completely outnumbered
– with a boy to girl ratio to
get many a red-blooded male
more than a little hot under
the collar – he dons his shorts
and vest with glee and skips
off into the studio without a
backward glance.
It’s really a joy to watch, as
engulfed in a sea of pink
leotards he remains totally
unfazed taking up expert
position on the mat ready for
action.
It’s in stark contrast to my
football-loving eldest, who
always looks on in scorn,
thoroughly put out at being
dragged across town to
satisfy his brother’s latest
whim.
But isn’t that what life’s
really all about? It’s our
differences that make us
who we are and I’m always
happy to encourage my boys’
penchants, within reason of
course.
“The world would be
a pretty boring place
if we all supported
Chelsea FC and
perhaps slightly more
bewildering if all of
us harboured secret
ambitions to star in
our own Swan Lakes.”
Yet this new activity has not
been unduly foisted upon him,
pushy parent I most certainly
