Bathurst’s heritage the focus<br />

in autumn<br />

Bathurst celebrates its position as<br />

Australia’s oldest European inl<strong>and</strong><br />

settlement this autumn with the<br />

‘Autumn Colours’ Heritage Tours<br />

program, Heritage week from 5-13 May<br />

<strong>and</strong> the return of the Bathurst Heritage<br />

Trades trail on 12-13 May.<br />

Autumn is traditionally the time when<br />

the Bathurst region focuses upon<br />

its rich <strong>and</strong> fascinating past, with<br />

many of the region’s historic sights<br />

brought to life through a series of tours<br />

<strong>and</strong> activities. These provide a rare<br />

opportunity to go behind the scenes<br />

<strong>and</strong> discover the moments, events <strong>and</strong><br />

characters that make up the story of<br />

Bathurst. The ‘Autumn Colours’ heritage<br />

tour program commences following<br />

the Easter long weekend, with a<br />

diverse program of tours, walks <strong>and</strong><br />

talks for the following six weeks.<br />

The annual Heritage Week will<br />

begin with Proclamation Day on<br />

Sunday 6 May <strong>and</strong> conclude with<br />

the outst<strong>and</strong>ing two day Bathurst<br />

Heritage Trades Trail over the weekend<br />

of 12-13 May, a celebration of rare<br />

trades <strong>and</strong> craftsmanship with displays,<br />

exhibitions <strong>and</strong> demonstrations at<br />

five of Bathurst’s heritage venues.<br />

The Trades Trail attracted almost a<br />

thous<strong>and</strong> visitors in its first year, <strong>and</strong><br />

shows just how strong interest is in<br />

the region’s cultural heritage <strong>and</strong> in<br />

the importance of showcasing these<br />

traditional skills <strong>and</strong> crafts. 2018 will<br />

also include an extraordinary exhibition<br />

of bridal gowns <strong>and</strong> paraphernalia at<br />

the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment<br />

Centre including the oldest wedding<br />

dress in Australia! Rediscover traditional<br />

craftsmanship at this exceptional<br />

event.<br />

What to See & Do<br />

Visit the T Rex in Fossil & Mineral<br />

Museum.<br />

Visit one of the beautiful villages in<br />

this region such as Peel <strong>and</strong> Wattle<br />

Flat on the way to Sofala, the oldest<br />

surviving gold town in Australia.<br />

Visit historic Perthville <strong>and</strong> maybe<br />

have a wagon ride.<br />

Mudgee District<br />

The Mudgee Region is located 270 km<br />

north west from <strong>Sydney</strong>, NSW. Elevation<br />

454m (1490 ft). The region is home to 22,000<br />

people whose median age is 41 years.<br />

The region includes the historic towns of<br />

Gulgong, K<strong>and</strong>os, Mudgee <strong>and</strong> Rylstone.<br />

Mudgee has a mild climate - Mean Max.<br />
