ANIMAL / PET CONTROL
Please respect your neighbor’s yard and their personal space.
Remember, that pets must be confined to a fenced backyard or
within the house and must not allowed to bark all night long or
cause a nuisance to neighbors. They must be on a leash at all times
when away from this contained environment. It is also the pet owner’s
responsibility, when walking their pet within the subdivision,
to keep ALL areas free of pet debris. Please remember that cats
must also be confined. Animal control can be reached by calling
281-342-1512 and will pick up strays and/or unconfined pets.
Please do not post lost pets on our gates or mailboxes. You are welcome
to post signs on stakes, but remove after your pet is found.
NEWS FROM THE BOARD
FALCON POINT EAST BOARD MEETING:
Date: The fourth Thursday of the month
Time: 6 PM
Location: TBD
R.S.V.P. Rachel Schmutz at rschmutz@csutx.com
Falcon Point East is governed by a Home Owners Association (HOA).
This means that there is a set of documents that lets residents know
what they can and cannot do on their property. Some of the most
common mistakes that homeowners/renters make are:
• Forgetting to put up your trash can at the end of a trash
collection day:
Please put your cart and recycle bin away and out of public view.
Leaving your cart in public view warrants a letter from Community
Solutions.
• Forgetting to cut and edge your grass on a regular basis:
Frequency of maintenance depends on the weather, rate of growth,
weeds, etc.; however, the maintenance must occur often enough
to ensure the lawn is maintained to the community wide standard.
• Not putting in a Home Improvement application before you make
a modification to the exterior of your home.
GARBAGE CANS:
Garbage cans and other garbage shall be located out of the public view except on the day of the pickup. Public view is defined as being
seen from any public/private street or sidewalk.
Places where residents are NOT allowed to store trash cans:
• On the driveway in public view • Next to a garage in public view
• In the front yard
• In other areas within view of the public
Street Gutters and Drains:
Please keep the street area in front of your house
clean, so that leaves, pine needles, grass clippings,
dirt and liter will not accumulate in the gutters
next to the curb. Accumulated debris will end up
being washed into the drains causing them to back
up and flood the streets. This also applies to lawn
contractors that are blowing debris into the street
instead of bagging them.
Pets
Please remember your pet must be on a leash at all
times and any waste must be picked up.
Falcon Point East Community Newsletter | April 2018
Places where residents CAN store trash cans:
• In a garage
• Behind an enclosure (An Architectural Review
Application must be approved in writing by the
Architectural Control Committee)
• In the side or rear yard out of public view
TRASH PICKUP
MONDAY
& THURSDAY
Republic Services, Inc. - Trash Service:
• Republic Trash 281-446-2030 (i.e. repairs, replacement
and missed collection of trash)
• The trash collection contract is administered by Harris Fort Bend MUD #5
• Trash is collected on both Monday & Thursday
• Recycling is only collected on Monday
• Bulk waste and oversized items are collected every Thursday
Volunteers Needed
We will need one volunteer from The Arbor, The Grove The Landing, & The Meadows
to help place and remove garage sale signs before and after the event. The HOA
will provide a gift certificate to each volunteer from the four neighborhoods. If your
neighborhood does not have a volunteer it will be excluded from participating.
Please send an email to mymagoo@gmail.com if you would like to volunteer
for the event.
SPRING GARAGE SALE
April 7, 2018, from 8 AM-2 PM. The gates will remain open during this time. The
Family
Focus
Fun Family Facts
#1: “Every Thanksgiving, once dinner is done and set, our family always goes around
and each one of us say what we are thankful for. It is a real touching tradition we do
every year and we all end up emotional and crying.”
#2: “You wouldn’t believe but both of my kids were born 3 weeks early, on a
Tuesday, before noon, and weighed one ounce from one another. Mom is from
Ponca City Oklahoma and lived here since she was 3. Marc was born in McAllen,
Texas and has lived here off and in since Elementary.”
What They Like About Living in Katy
“We live in the heart of Katy, Texas. Right of off 99 and I-10.
We have lived in our home 4 years now but both have grown
up in the Katy area since the early 90’s. The area means to us
about family, local places we still love to enjoy, and family
What They Love to Do
They love taking their kids to places where they can play and have fun.
This family enjoys going out to eat at their favorite local spots and hosting
BBQ’s and holidays in their home.
and friends we have known since we were kids. We bought a house in Katy that looks just like the house Marc lived in when he lived in the same
neighborhood in junior high/high school. His former home is a few streets down from us. My mom’s house is just 3-4 miles down the rode, where I grew
up and she still lives there. The area is booming so much, we had Typhoon Texas down the street and the new Katy Boardwalk is being built. I don’t
think we realized the location of our home was gonna be so close to awesome places that have come up.”
Family Roster
Mom: Erica, SAHM. Loves
raising their children, family
time, and helping others.
Aspires to be the best mom,
wife, family member, and
friend that she can be.
Son: Mark, 9 YO. Enjoys
playing basketball (very
talented, too!), playing with
cousins, loving his sister. He
aspires to become an NBA
player and have a Lamborghini
when he grows up.
Dad: Marc, Finance Manager
at Autonation Nissan in Katy.
Enjoys taking family or friends
to Rockets games or Texans
games and spending time with
family. Aspirations include
“wishing and hoping to retire
at 45”.
Daughter: Hailey, 3 YO. Loves
playing with toys like Peppa
Pig and House. She’s a daddy’s
girl who wants to be a mommy
when she grows up, have lots
of toys, and “that Riley is my
best friend.”
Ahh, Spring!
Long Awaited Spring: They enjoy Spring Break every year and always go to the Houston Rodeo or
down to Galveston. Mom & dad’s wedding Anniversary is on April 2, and enjoy going out of town
for a few days. With the weather becoming better by the day, their kids spend most afternoons and
weekends outside playing.
The Easter Bunny is Coming to Town: “We all get together for a nice big lunch. We make an Easter
bunny cake, dye eggs, and do an egg hunt. Lunch is usually Uncle Brian and Grandma’s famous ribs.”
And he’s good to me: The Easter Bunny leaves their kids a basket for each of them that they have to
search for and find. There are eggs and candy along with one special present for both of them. They
also also enjoy an egg hunt early in the morning when they wake up to find eggs around the house.
What’s it all about: “Easter means family to us. Spending time with one another and enjoying each
others’ company. We want to build loving memories and a strong family times. The most important
thing is that we are all happy and healthy. Easter is always a reminder of how lucky we are, how
blessed we are, thankful, and a kickoff to some awesome weather.”
DIY CAR MAINTENANCE
When was the last time you serviced your car ON YOUR OWN? Our
pretty four wheels deserve attention, too and this means more than
just a car wash. Here are a few tune-up tips you can do on your own:
1. Air filter - You need a new air filter for your car every 12 months or
12,000 miles, whichever comes first. You can pay a mechanic and give
up your car for a day or you can replace your air filter at home in about
ten minutes.
2. Windshield Wipers - You’ll need new wiper blades after about
six months or a year of use. You shouldn’t deal with the danger of
streaking while you put off an inconvenient trip to the auto shop.
3. Oil and filter - Experts say you should change your oil every 3,000
miles, but with better products and cars operating more efficiently,
you can get away with changing it every 5,000 miles. Whichever
benchmark you decide to use, you can save time and money by
handling the change yourself.
4. Battery maintenance - if you’ve had the same battery for a few
years, pop your hood every few months and take a look at the battery
to see if it needs a simple cleaning.
Nearly all children with
5p-Syndrome have poor muscle
tone when they are young.
Other characteristics may
include feeding difficulties,
delays in walking, hyperactivity,
scoliosis and significant developmental
delays. A small number of children are born
with serious organ defects and other life
threatening medical conditions, although
most individuals with 5p- can anticipate a
normal life expectancy. With early and consistent
educational intervention, as well as
physical and language therapy, children with
5p-Syndrome are capable of reaching their
fullest potential and can lead full and meaningful
lives. Children born with this very rare
genetic defect will most likely require ongoing
support for life, from a team of parents, therapists,
medical and educational professionals
to help the child achieve his or her maximum
potential.
COLOR FOR A CAUSE 5K COLOR RUN
Ranch Future Business Leaders of America
toward the local nonprofit The Arc of Katy
to help them rebuild their facility that was
destroyed during Hurricane Harvey. The Arc
works to create opportunities for all children
and adults with intellectual and developmental
KCCC at Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming - Richmond
9711 S. Mason Rd, Richmond, Texas
Katy Community ‘Chip Clinic, a local non-profit, volunteer-run organization
is pleased to announce its spring schedule of upcoming events to serve the
needs of Katy-area residents. The organization offers $10 microchipping for
pets with FREE lifetime registration! What is a microchip? A microchip is a
rice-sized transponder that is injected between a pet’s shoulder blades with
a needle. When getting ‘chipped, most animals don’t notice any difference
from when receiving yearly vaccinations. A microchip does NOT have a GPS
locator on it, but as long as the account is kept up-to-date, its number will
be linked to the pet owner’s contact information. The microchip account
is easily accessible online and pet owners can update as needed and even
add pet’s photo and veterinarian info.
Pet owners do not need to live in the same town as these upcoming events
to take advantage of this service, but PLEASE NOTE: cash only and MUST
bring rabies certification paperwork (not just the collar tag) - for volunteer
and attendee safety. There is a limit of two pets per family, unless pre-approved.
Cats should be in a secure carrier and dogs should be on a no-slip
leash (please no retractable leashes).
KATY ISD APPROVES
INSTRUCTIONAL CALENDARS FOR NEXT TWO YEARS
As part of the Katy Independent School District, “Your District,
Your Voice” initiative, the community has provided its input for
the upcoming yearly instructional calendar. The Katy ISD Board
of Trustees has approved the following option for the 2018-2019
academic year:
Cinco Ranch Junior High Computerized Coyotes Robotics Team
and their mentor, Alex Dial (L). Team members: Kartik Rai, Derek
Elis and Sam Daigre (R) earn 3rd Place for Strategy and Innovation
at the FLL South Texas Region Championship
Option #1
School Begins: Wednesday, August 15 th
School Ends: Thursday, May 23 rd
Instructional Calendar Days: 177
Full week off for Thanksgiving
“The District is required to have a minimum of 75,600 minutes
of instruction per school year,” says Bonnie Holland, associate
superintendent for administration, governance and legal affairs.
“With the options approved, Katy ISD has enough calendar minutes
to cover two bad weather days,” added Holland.
K-12 Insight, the external research firm conducting the survey, found
that, out of the 22,169 participants, 65% favored option #1. The
Board also approved an instructional calendar for 2019-2020 school
year. This calendar mirrors the preferred components of the 2018-19
calendar.
CINCO RANCH JH ROBOTICS TEAM EARNS AWARDS
After earning 2nd place for the 2017 Robot Design Award at the Katy Qualifier,
the Computerized Coyotes from Cinco Ranch Junior High advanced to the
South Texas Region Championship, where the team was thrilled to earn
the 3rd place trophy for Strategy and Innovation in January 2018. The first
year rookie team has been led by Alex Dial, a tenth grade Cinco Ranch High
School student and CRHS Robotics Team 624 CRyptonite member. Alex was
influential in forming the team, which is part of FIRST (For Inspiration and
Recognition of Science and Technology) LEGO League (FLL). Team members
Sam Daigre, Kartik Rai and Derek Elis have been diligently working since
August, designing and building the team’s LEGO Mindstorm robot and
brainstorming to solve the FLL Hydrodynamic Challenge, to present to a
panel of judges. The Computerized Coyotes gained entry to the South Texas
Regional Championship by qualifying at the Katy event that was hosted by
Team 624 CRyptonite in December 2017. Team 624 CRyptonite has been
a great resource for FLL teams by hosting practice events, competitions
and offering advice for young teams. The Computerized Coyotes are also
thankful for the generous support they have received from Cinco Ranch
Junior High principal, Elizabeth Nicklas, as well as Bechtel Corporation.
Soon the team will begin brainstorming ideas for next season’s FLL
Challenge, ‘Into Orbit.’ For more information about FIRST and how to form
your own FLL team, please visit www.firstinspires.org. Become a volunteer
coach (no experience needed) and make a difference in kids’ lives today!
SPRING CLEANING YOUR HOME
It’s 2018. A brand new year. A chance to start afresh, breathe in the new
and make resolutions. While you’re feeling enthused about a year that’s
new, now is the perfect time to look around your living space and start
doing some spring cleaning.
Gifts
Are there any gifts you received over the holidays or for your birthdays over
the years that you don’t like for whatever reason? Maybe they’re clothes
that didn’t fit or perfume you didn’t like the smell of. Unless they hold
sentimental value for you, let them go. Sell them. They’re taking up space.
Jewelry
If you have jewelry or lots of them, go through them all. Which ones still
speak to you and which ones no longer do? Let go of the ones that don’t. It
will also make you appreciate the ones you’ve decided to keep all the more.
Books
Go through your book collection. Get rid of the ones you’re truly never going
to read. Consider gifting some of the ones you’ve read to someone else.
Books are beautiful - the feel of them, the smell of them, being able to
physically hold one, the turning over of a page. However, give some
thought to whether there are some of your books you’d be willing to part
with and instead, access their digital versions using an electronic reader
like a Kindle or a Fire tablet.
Magazines/CDs/DVDs
Do you still have piles of old magazines, CDs, DVDs? Let them all go. If there
are any that are of particular value, sell them and give the rest to charity.
Appliances/Technology
Most people have an appliance stored away that they have never used or
hardly use. A coffee machine or smoothie maker, for instance. Any damaged
ones you’ve been telling yourself you’ll fix one day or spare laptops
or computers you rarely ever use can all be gotten rid of.
Shoes/Clothes
This is the last thing listed but is probably the first thing you should go
through. However, you can build up to it by doing one of the things already
listed. Unless you’re a minimalist, there are probably clothes and shoes of
yours you can go through and say your goodbyes to. Challenge yourself
to get rid of at least a quarter of it. For every three items you choose to
keep, let go of one item.
Spring cleaning can be freeing. You’re clearing energy. It can make your
living space feel lighter and make you feel lighter too. Imagine how it’ll
feel once you’ve finished spring cleaning your home, knowing that most
of what you’ve chosen to keep is what you actually want.
The New Year can also be a good time to start planning for any work you
may want done on your home. If you live in an old building and plan on
hiring someone to do the work for you, ensure they have the appropriate
lead certification first.
Mulch - If possible, buy Bagged Mulch. Bagging
helps eliminate a great many pests that die
from various causes while in the bag. When you
buy 'loose' mulch that is trucked to your home,
you are also buying ants, roaches, termites,
etc… Spend a little more on bagged material
and save lots of future pest problems. Keep
your mulch at least 4" - 6" below the top of your
homes exposed foundation edge/side. This will
aid in minimizing pests in your home and allow
for quick and accurate termite inspections.
Shrubs, Flowers and groundcovers - Trim
all shrubs/plants at least 12" - 18" back from
your home. Do your best to create a plant free
zone that is 18" - 24" wide around your home.
The exception is your lawn - it can grow up next
to the slab as long as you keep it 4" - 6" below
the top of the slab. The most conducive to
termite infestation are groundcover plantings,
growing high against your homes exterior or
(especially) ivy that grows on your walls.
Trees - Spray your trees at least twice annually.
The spring spray eliminates overwintering
pests and fungi while preparing trees to resist
the pest onslaught of summer with residual
pesticides. The fall spray also kills pests from
the summer, prevents most fungi from occurring
over the winter and puts your valuable
asset off to a healthy winter's dormancy.
Lawn - Spring is the perfect time to do a fungicide
treatment to stop brown patch in its
tracks along with other fungi. If your lawn is
thin and weak in some areas, here are some
important fundamentals: a) lawn aeration b)
fertilization c) weed control.
Most important is proper watering:
• Water once per week (unless you get
a 1/2" rain or more - then do not water.)
• Water heavily (1" - 2") for total lawn coverage.
• In severe drought, water every 5th day.
• Water from 5 AM to 7 AM in the morning -
NOT AT NIGHT.
• A heavy deep weekly watering makes the
turf grow deeper, stronger and more drought
resistant roots.
• Less watering also saves you money!!
IRS TAX DEADLINE
People have until Tuesday, April 17, 2018, to file their 2017 returns and pay any taxes
due. The filing tax deadline is later this year due to several factors. The usual April 15 th
deadline falls on Sunday this year, which would normally give taxpayers until at least the
following Monday. However, Emancipation Day, a Washington, D.C., holiday, is observed
on Monday, April 16 th , giving taxpayers nationwide an additional day to file. By law,
Washington holidays impact tax deadlines for everyone in the same way federal holidays
do. Taxpayers requesting an extension will have until Monday, Oct. 15, 2018, to file.
The IRS expects more than 70 percent of taxpayers to get tax refunds this year. Last year,
nearly 112 million refunds were issued, with an average refund of $2,895.
KATY RESIDENT RAISES MONEY TO HELP SCHOOLS,
CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS
For four years, Katy resident Dorothy Sanchez has worked to raise money in the
hopes of helping local schools, clubs and organizations thrive. This year not only
marked Sanchez’s fifteenth Scentsy fundraiser but her most successful one yet. In
December, Sanchez presented Kelsey Peltier a check for $2,050.49 to go toward
the Theatre Department at Poly Ryon Middle School. Peltier, the school’s theatre
teacher incorporated the Scentsy fundraiser into an assignment for her theatre
students who were able to raise the money in just two weeks.
Mrs. Sanchez is a Scentsy Director who believes in one of Scentsy’s values, “Give
More Than You Take.” She donates part of her commissions to build up the community.
In her four years of holding fundraisers, she has been able to donate more
than $50,000.
