SPECIAL EVENTS<br />

• INCOME-TAX-PREPARATION ASSISTANCE – Fridays thru <strong>April</strong> 13 th ,<br />

1-4 PM, Meeting Room. Representatives from the AARP will provide free<br />

income-tax-preparation assistance for low-income taxpayers. Patrons<br />

should bring the following information to the session if possible: photo<br />

ID; Social Security card(s) for self, spouse and all dependents; last year’s<br />

tax return; W-2, 1099s and any other compensation received in 2017;<br />

unemployment compensation statements; and any other documents that<br />

are necessary to complete your return. This service is free and open to the<br />

public on a first-come, first-served basis. Income-tax forms are no longer<br />

available at the libraries, but patrons may use the libraries’ computers and<br />

printers to download and print out the forms from the IRS website, www.<br />

irs.gov, during regular library hours. A library card is needed to use the<br />

printers and the cost to print is 10¢ per black-and-white page.<br />

• TEXAS SUPERSTAR PLANTS FOR GARDEN SUCCESS - Monday, <strong>April</strong> 9 th ,<br />

6 PM, Meeting Room. Fort Bend County Master Gardener Suma Mudan will<br />

talk about Texas Superstars® - plants that have shown to provide superior<br />

performance under Texas’s tough growing conditions. Learn about growing<br />

Superstar perennials, annuals, semi-tropical plants, trees and edible plants<br />

and get ideas on how to incorporate them into garden designs.<br />

• eREADER Q&A HOUR - Thursday, <strong>April</strong> 12 th , 11 AM-noon, Meeting<br />

Room. During this come-and-go period, patrons can bring their mobile<br />

reading devices and have their questions answered about the device or<br />

about downloading e-books or streaming movies. Learn how easy it is to<br />

check out free e-books, audiobooks, music and movies from the library’s<br />

online digital collections, OverDrive, Hoopla, CloudLibrary and Flipster.<br />

• INTRODUCTION TO CROCHET - Saturday, <strong>April</strong> 21 st , 9:30 AM, Meeting<br />

Room. In this hands-on adult craft class, library staff member Marie Picon<br />

will describe essential tools, materials and techniques used for crocheting.<br />

Learn about the different yarns that can be used for varying effects and how<br />

crochet hooks differ from other types of needlework tools. Those attending<br />

the program will begin by making a simple square. Get ideas for making a<br />

variety of items, such as scarves, bags or blankets. Materials for the class<br />

will be provided thanks to the generous support of the Friends of the Bob<br />

Lutts <strong>Fulshear</strong>/Simonton Branch Library. Reservations are required.<br />

• FULSHEAR BOOK CLUB - Monday, <strong>April</strong> 16 th , 12 Noon, Meeting Room.<br />

The book to be discussed is One Thousand White Women: The Journals of<br />

May Dodd, written by Jim Fergus.<br />

• FULSHEAR NIGHT READERS GUILD - Monday, <strong>April</strong> 23 rd , 6:30 PM,<br />

Meeting Room. The book to be discussed is Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour<br />

Bookstore, written by Robin Sloan.<br />

YOUNG ADULT PROGRAMS TEENS GRADES 9-12<br />

• ORIGAMI EXPERIENCE FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS - Monday, <strong>April</strong><br />

16 th , 5 PM, Meeting Room. Teens in grades 9-12 are invited to try their hand<br />

at building complex shapes with folded paper. Discover how delicate art<br />

forms can be made by twisting and folding paper into unique shapes.<br />

Those attending the program will also have an opportunity to watch a<br />

video showing folded structures in the natural world and how science is<br />

finding revolutionary uses for complex folds. Materials for this program<br />

were made possible by the Friends of the Bob Lutts <strong>Fulshear</strong>/Simonton<br />

Branch Library.<br />

WEEKLY CHILDREN’S PROGRAM<br />

• Toddler Time - Tuesdays at 10:15 AM, offers caregiver/child activities,<br />

stories and songs for older babies, from 12 to 36 months of age.<br />

• Story Time - Wednesdays at 10:15 AM, 3 to 6 years of age, presents<br />

stories, movies and participate in age-appropriate craft activities.<br />

• After-School Breaks - 2 nd Thursday at 4:30 PM. Crafts, movies, stories for<br />

school-aged children in grades 1 through 5. The program on <strong>April</strong> 12 th will<br />

be “Cha-Cha-Cha-Chia Heads.” Participants will make a Chia head to take<br />

home and observe as its grass hair sprouts and grows.<br />
