MATCH REPORT
HALTON FARNWORTH HORNETS ‘A’ 0
WOOLSTON ROVERS ‘A’ 38
Woolston Rovers ‘A’ produced another clinical
display to comprehensively defeat a game
Halton Farnworth Hornets ‘A’ side in the NWML
Division Three on Saturday afternoon in a
match that was curtailed after fifty minutes due
to the home side being reduced to ten men
through injuries.
Rovers opened the scoring after twelve
minutes when stand off Olly Hands scored. Full
back Liam Sullivan converted and then six
minutes later impressive hooker Adam Files
went over for a try. Sullivan added the
conversion.
Just before the half hour mark Files went
over for his second try before centre Olly Parr
moved Rovers further ahead with a
touchdown that was converted by Sullivan and
two minutes before the break substitute Ben
Moore scored. Sullivan added the conversion
to make the half time score 28-0.
A minute into the second half Files went over
once again to complete a fine hat trick. Sullivan
converted and almost immediately Parr scored
his second try to make the score 38-0, which
is the way, it stayed as the referee called time
early as a duty of care to the home side.
The Man of the Match was awarded to Rovers
prop forward Matt Clarke. He was very well
supported by hooker Adam Files and stand off
Olly Hands.
After the game Rovers ‘A’ coach Andy Penny
said, “It wasn’t ideal with the referee calling
the game off early but I fully understood why.
They only had a bare thirteen to start with and
with losing three players through injury he felt
it was the safest thing to do. I was delighted
once again with the attitude that the players
shown and the way they controlled the game
throughout.
Some of our attacking play in the first half was
outstanding and hopefully we can continue to
play in that vein moving forward.”
