About Tedx
x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized
events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event,
TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection.
These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently
organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx
program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and
regulations.)
About TEDxED
TEDxED events are a special type of TEDx event that has the focus on education – in
the broadest possible sense.
About TED
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as
a four-day conference in California 30 years ago, TED has grown to support its
mission with multiple initiatives. The two annual TED Conferences invite the world’s
leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes or less. Many of these talks are
then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane
Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck,
Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman.
The annual TED Conference takes place each spring in Vancouver, British Columbia,
along with the TEDActive simulcast event in nearby Whistler. The annual TEDGlobal
conference will be held this October in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Hi there!
We’re delighted you have joined us for TEDxNorwichED – the only TEDxEducation event in the
whole of Europe in 2018!
In 201, hosted the first large scale TEDxED event in the UK for over 4 years, and the first TEDx
event in Norfolk for 5 years, and asked one simple question- What would happen if we thought
different about education. In 2017, we returned, bigger and better than ever, with the question
‘How can we inspire all generations?’. Both years, people attended – both physically and online
from across the UK and even further afield, and the buzz following the event was substantial.
We were trending on twitter for most of the day both years, and in 2017 had over 250,000
tweets and re-tweets about us on the event day. Last year, we had over 10,000 people join us
virtually on-line via our live stream, and the videos from our events have gone on to be viewed
over 500,000 times and many projects and collaborations have started as a direct result of
attending TEDxNorwichED.
So, we are back for 2018. This years theme came straight out of last years
event- DREAM BIG!
The event has been planned without an agenda – it is not designed to
attach, criticise or indeed promote a one way of doing things.
As amazing as our speakers will hopefully be, the most important
part of the event is YOU. You are part of a diverse and wideranging
audience – who are all here because they are interested
in education. Please do make the most of the networking and
discussion opportunities that are going to be weaved through
the day – share your thoughts, contribute and make some
magical connections!
But, it’s more than just today – we want the conversation
to continue and for this event to make a real impact, and
we’ll be sharing ways and ideas with you throughout the
day of how we help to make sure this happens, and that
this event is more than just a ‘nice day in Norwich’.
TED’s media initiatives include TED.com, where new TED Talks are posted daily; the
Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well
as translations from volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed.
TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a
wish to change the world get help translating their wishes into action; TEDx, which
supports individuals or groups in hosting local, self-organized TED-style events
around the world, and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators
from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and
activities.
We are always striving for excellence, and would
love to hear your feedback – so we hope you will
share your ideas and chat with us throughout the
day about your experiences so far, what you have
loved and how we can make things even better
– all feedback is a gift, so we do hope you will
share your thoughts with us! You can also reach
the team via email on
hello@tedxnorwiched.com.
So, hold on tight – it’s going
to be a great ride.
We’re excited to get
started – are you?
