This is a “How-We-Got-
Here” overview of the
current opioid epidemic.
This workshop looks at
the science and history
of the epidemic to bring
better understanding and
to sift through fact and
urban legend. It will discuss
recovery and treatment
approaches, highlight the
importance of connection
in recovery, and the role
that Christian health centers
and churches can play in
restoring lives wrecked
by this pandemic. Led by
experts in addiction and
recovery who have been
active in Ohio’s state-wide
efforts to address this crisis,
the presenters will discuss
strategies of collaborative
partnerships, the role of
faith in the continuum of
care, and ways for local
churches to engage the
problem siting examples
from other communities.
Ben Andrews
There are limited
numbers of HIV providers
nationwide. Stigma is a
leading cause of AIDSrelated
death and can
be particularly strong in
many churches. Are you
interested in treating
HIV and addressing how
to impact the church to
combat HIV-related stigma?
This workshop will dive
into the epidemiology of
HIV in the U.S., updates in
HIV care and treatment,
and discuss development
of HIV treatment program
within an FQHC and steps
to address stigma in the
community and in churches.
CCHF partner, The Neighborhood
Christian Clinic
in Phoenix, has developed
a Spiritual/Whole Person
Care curriculum designed
to teach healthcare professionals
how to deliver whole
person and spiritual care
in healthcare settings. Five
courses deal with Biblical,
ethical, legal and scientific
issues concerning Spiritual
Care as well as practical
ways to implement it. This
session introduces the
curriculum by demonstrating
Course One of the five
course series. The Curriculum
will be available online
to all CCHF members.
