What is pawnbroking?
As confi rmed by Wikipedia, pawnbroking
is the oldest form of banking in England.
The pawnbroker in this country, like so
many other distinguished personages,
came in with William the Conqueror.
Yet, despite the valuable services
the class rendered, not infrequently
to the Crown itself, the usurer was
treated with studied cruelty. Sir Walter
Scott’s Isaac of York was no mere
creation of fi ction. These barbarities
began, by diminishing the number
of Jews in the country, long before
Edward’s decree of banishment, to
make it worth the while of the Lombard
merchants to settle in England. In
1338, Edward III pawned his jewels to
the Lombards to raise money for his
war with France. An equally great king,
Henry V did much the same in 1415.
What kind of people come to The Vintage
Pawnbrokers for a loan?
We have a lot of people that think that
‘pawn’ is a dirty word, which it isn’t. We
are fully compliant with the FCA (the
Financial Conduct Authority). We have
people from all walks of life that use our
services, whether they are in a high-fl ying
job and need to bridge the gap before the
work bonus comes in, or have over-spent
one month and the wife still wants to go
skiing or perhaps you’re in-between jobs
or waiting for a payment from a third party.
We help everyone that wants to use us.
Who can apply for a loan, and what is
the process?
Anyone can apply for an asset loan. We
don’t do any credit checks, you simply
need photographic ID. We have two
options to choose from depending on how
much you require to borrow. We have a
28 day ‘Buy Back’ or a ‘6 month pledge.’
Both of these options can be renewed if
the client is unable to redeem at the end
of the contract. We are always fair to our
customers and we want to return all of
the items we hold. Our interest rates vary
depending on whether you are a fi rst time
or a long-standing customer.
What kind of asset/s can be used?
We consider most things but the most
popular items seem to be high-end
watches, gold, diamonds, handbags etc.
Depending on how much the client would
like to borrow, they can walk out with the
cash instantly or be in receipt of a bank
transfer within the hour. We can assure
all clients that their goods are properly
looked after with our very high-tech
security systems.
Can assets be sold through
The Vintage Pawnbrokers?
Here at The Vintage Pawnbrokers, we
also offer a buying service if you would
prefer to sell your items rather than
get a loan against them. The client can
also part exchange against something
that we already have in the shop, like a
Rolex watch, or upgrade their diamond
ring to something more substantial.
We are a very small team and we get
great feedback from our clients. I have a
great team behind me and whilst we are
very discreet and professional with our
clients, we also keep an air of fun and
