We would like to invite you to our TLWA Coffee
Mornings. We meet most Thursdays, from 10
AM to Noon. We socialize, drink coffee and
enjoy a light refreshment and laugh a lot.

TWIN LAKES SHARE & PRAYER
We are excited about the new things
coming! In this relationally based
group, friendships develop and as
we feel comfortable we learn how
to pray and support one another. In
September, Share & Prayer began
a new format with an inductive study of the gospel of Mark, the
most compact of the New Testament books that follows the life
of Jesus. Rather than using a workbook or guide, each person will
have time on Wednesday evening to observe and write what a
chapter actually says around a given topic, attempting to set aside
preconceived notions and we will discuss our findings.
Most attendees are professionals working full time, with an age
range of 30 - 90! The group is growing and all Twin Lakes women
are welcome. Feel free to come and observe... new seekers are

ATHLETES
The Northwest Flyers Track Club is now registering
all middle and high school athletes who
wish to join for the 2018 season. The team is
celebrating its 31st anniversary year and is a
member of USA Track & Field. A full program
of “track” events such as sprints, hurdles, middle
distance, distance and relays and “field”
events such as long jump, triple jump, high
jump, pole vault, discus, shot put and javelin is
offered. It is an excellent “off-season” program
for young athletes who currently compete on
their middle school or high school track teams.
An orientation session for school athletes will
be held at 7 PM on April 3rd and on May 1st at

The Board of Trustees approved a recommendation for 35 CFISD
campuses to be open for student transfers for the 2018-2019
school year during its regularly scheduled meeting March 5 th , with
students transfer forms made available online and at the campuses
beginning April 2 nd . The following campuses were approved for a
limited number of student transfers for the 2018-2019 school year:
High School
Bridgeland (grades 9-11), Cypress Park (grades 9-11), Cy-Fair,
Cypress Ranch, Cypress Springs and Langham Creek.
Middle School
Campbell, Goodson, Hamilton, Hopper, Kahla, Labay and Truitt.
Elementary School
Adam, Andre’, Danish, Duryea, Frazier, Gleason, Hairgrove, Hoover
(grades PK-2), Jowell (grades 3-5), Kirk, Lamkin, Lee, Metcalf, Moore,

A student who is currently enrolled and attending a CFISD campus
may apply for an Open Transfer Request for the 2018-2019 school
year. The Office of Admissions will accept transfer request from

ST. ELIZABETH ANN SETON CATHOLIC SCHOOL
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School 7 th and 8 th grade students competed
in the annual St. Agnes Middle School Math Competition on Saturday,
February 24 th . 27 teams from 15 area Catholic schools solved math and
reasoning puzzles. There was also a building competition to create a load
bearing bridge over a 3-foot span! SEASCS Team A placed 5 th in the activity
competition: Emma Nguyen, Sani Jones, Dylan Sandrock, Lucile Mauvoisin,
Issa Baba and Toby Vu. SEASCS Team B placed 7 th in the team competition
and 6 th in the activity portion: Makynzie Kitzmann, Chris Ngo, Kati Rzasnicki,
Catherine Benavides, Anh Thy Nguyen and Michael Staron. Lexie Robertson
practiced and served as an alternate. The combined team scores brought
home the 2 nd place over all award! WAY TO GO PHINS!
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School students participated in the annual
Pueri Cantore, The Student Choral Organization of the Catholic Church, on
Saturday, February 24 th at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. Dr. O’Neill
led the SEASCS group alongside other directors and choristers throughout
the archdiocese and nation. We commend the following students for
their dedication to the mastery of liturgical music: Sitara Trahan, Maggie
Hutchinson, Colton Rue, Kayleigh Green, Maia Holloway and Christian

This year due to Hurricane Harvey, Covenant Academy’s annual upper school retreat (grades 7-12) was a winter retreat!
The students enjoyed guest speaker, Dr. Keith McCurdy, team building games, outdoor sports events and Bible study.
On February 27 th , Covenant Academy’s National
Junior Honor Society and National Honor Society
inducted several new members. These students
lead several community service projects throughout
the year and collected 2,250 canned goods for the
Galveston Soup Kitchen in March.
Covenant Academy competed in their first middle school
track meet of the season. Go patriots! Wishing both our MS
and Varsity track and field teams a fast and fun season.

IRS TAX DEADLINE
People have until Tuesday, April 17, 2018, to file their 2017 returns and
pay any taxes due. The filing tax deadline is later this year due to several
factors. The usual April 15 th deadline falls on Sunday this year, which
would normally give taxpayers until at least the following Monday.
However, Emancipation Day, a Washington, D.C., holiday, is observed
on Monday, April 16 th , giving taxpayers nationwide an additional day
to file. By law, Washington holidays impact tax deadlines for everyone
in the same way federal holidays do. Taxpayers requesting an extension
will have until Monday, Oct. 15, 2018, to file.
The IRS expects more than 70 percent of taxpayers to get tax refunds
this year. Last year, nearly 112 million refunds were issued, with an
average refund of $2,895.

Long Awaited Spring
Their favorite spring time tradition as a family is picking out their cowboy
and cowgirl wear for Rodeo Day, and then head down to NRG to enjoy the
Rodeo food and concerts. Of course, the kids have a blast at the carnival!
The Easter Bunny is Coming to Town: “For Easter each year as a family,
we like to go to brunch together, followed by Easter church service and
we like to host a BBQ with close friends and family. Our Easter tradition
is an Easter egg hunt for kids, we always make baskets for our kids filled
with their favorite goodies, and bake and decorate an Easter theme cake.”
And he’s good to me: The kids’ Easter baskets and usually filled with toys, candies,
shirts and each kid’s favorite goodies based on their favorite character or hobby.
What’s it all about: To this family, the true meaning of Easter is the “religious
celebration celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. Also a time to get together with
close family and friends and spend quality time together.”
Heart to Heart
“One of our biggest challenges was learning that
not everyone is as understanding towards special
needs and some lack knowledge to Autism. We
went from having such hard times making a grocery
trip or taking my kids to a playground because
some would look at my son as their definition of
normal and due to his sensory overload moments
adults would stare or make rude comments when
he would stim or have a moment. Children around
him always seem to be much more understanding
than adults, but we have come such a long way
from letting that turn into fear to be out in public
to not letting that stop us and my children from
enjoying life and all the beautiful things life has for
them to explore. Now we enjoy the outdoors more,
explore new places and travel more.”

• Some things you may want to consider selling are: clothing, books,
linens (especially sheet sets or towel sets), costume jewelry, curtains
and rods, cassette tapes, Christmas or other holiday items,
glassware, kitchen items and tools.
• If you haven’t used an item in a year or so, consider selling it.
If it has been two or more years, SELL IT.
• Clean items could be priced at about 30% of new retail,
but that is only a guideline.
• Old, stained (but clean) t-shirts make great rags. Bag them up
and sell a bunch at a time.
• Items with missing pieces or broken should be free -
someone may want parts.
• Display some of your more interesting items at the end
of the driveway to lure people in.

• Background music creates a relaxing atmosphere - pick middle
of the road, easy listening.
• If it is hot, have the kids sell cold soft drinks or have a water jug and paper
cups handy. The longer you can keep customers, the more they will buy.
• Have some “guy things” out front: an old lawn mower, some tools; set up
a guy table with jars of screws and nails, electronic parts, fishing stuff,
camping stuff, etc.
• Your sale will be more successful if you take the time and make sure everything
is clean and displayed well. During the sale, keep busy by filling in the empty
spots on your tables by rearranging your stuff.
• Have plastic grocery bags available to put sold items in; also, it’s a good idea
to have newspaper handy to wrap breakable items.

Mulch - If possible, buy Bagged Mulch. Bagging helps eliminate a great many pests that
die from various causes while in the bag. When you buy 'loose' mulch that is trucked
to your home, you are also buying ants, roaches, termites, etc… Spend a little more
on bagged material and save lots of future pest problems. Keep your mulch at least
4" - 6" below the top of your homes exposed foundation edge/side. This will aid in
minimizing pests in your home and allow for quick and accurate termite inspections.
Shrubs, Flowers and groundcovers - Trim all shrubs/plants at least 12" - 18"
back from your home. Do your best to create a plant free zone that is 18" - 24" wide
around your home. The exception is your lawn - it can grow up next to the slab as
long as you keep it 4" - 6" below the top of the slab. The most conducive to termite
infestation are groundcover plantings, growing high against your homes exterior or
(especially) ivy that grows on your walls.
Trees - Spray your trees at least twice annually. The spring spray eliminates overwintering
pests and fungi while preparing trees to resist the pest onslaught of summer
with residual pesticides. The fall spray also kills pests from the summer, prevents
most fungi from occurring over the winter and puts your valuable asset off to a
healthy winter's dormancy.
Lawn - Spring is the perfect time to do a fungicide treatment to stop brown patch
in its tracks along with other fungi. If your lawn is thin and weak in some areas, here
are some important fundamentals: a) lawn aeration b) fertilization c) weed control.
Most important is proper watering:
• Water once per week (unless you get a 1/2" rain or more - then do not water.)
• Water heavily (1" - 2") for total lawn coverage.
• In severe drought, water every 5th day.
• Water from 5 AM to 7 AM in the morning - NOT AT NIGHT.
• A heavy deep weekly watering makes the turf grow deeper, stronger
and more drought resistant roots.
• Less watering also saves you money!!

RUNNING FOR HEARTS
5K FAMILY FUN RUN AND WALK
The Shield Bearer Running for Hearts 5K Family
Fun Run and Walk will take place on April 7,
2018, 7-11 AM, at Windwood Church at 10555
Spring Cypress Road in Houston, Texas. This
family friendly event will feature a 5K timed,
trail style run, a 1-mile family walk, games
for the kids, t-shirts, food, prizes and lots of
fun for all ages. Race registration is $25 for
adults (ages 14 and up) and $10 for children
(ages 13 and under) before March 20, 2018.

Nearly all children with 5p-Syndrome have
poor muscle tone when they are young. Other
characteristics may include feeding difficulties,
delays in walking, hyperactivity, scoliosis
and significant developmental delays. A small
number of children are born with serious organ
defects and other life threatening medical
conditions, although most individuals with 5pcan
anticipate a normal life expectancy. With
early and consistent educational intervention,
as well as physical and language therapy,
children with 5p-Syndrome are capable of
reaching their fullest potential and can lead
full and meaningful lives. Children born with
this very rare genetic defect will most likely
require ongoing support for life, from a team of
parents, therapists, medical and educational
professionals to help the child achieve his or
her maximum potential.

Wing presents its 2018 Warbird Weekend
and Open House at Hangar B-5, West Houston
Airport. Get up close and feel the prop wash
and hear the noise as radial engines power
these historic WWII aircraft. See some of the
old planes your father, grandfather or grandmother
learned to fly for World War II.
Admission is $15 per CAR at the gate or $10
per car if ticket is purchased in advance online

and earns you a day of aircraft and military
vehicle displays, museum exhibits and fun.

SPRING FESTIVAL

Get ready for family fun and entertainment for all ages! Christ the Redeemer
Catholic Church will host its 33 rd Annual Spring Festival on April 28 th -29 th . The
event, a major fundraiser for the parish, provides the community with fun
and fellowship for the whole weekend.
On the CtR church grounds, the community and parishioners will enjoy
several big-top tents, a two-story obstacle course and lots of food. Festival
activities include the cake raffle, Bingo, Sweet Shop, Crafts, Flea Market,
Plant Booth, Coke Ring Toss and the very popular expanding food court.
For the kids, they have several inflatables to play on, confetti egg games,
face painting and marshmallow shooters. A big draw is the great food in a
large tent with tons of options including egg rolls, funnel cakes, hot dogs,
jambalaya, barbecue sandwiches or barbecue stuffed potatoes, snocones,
cotton candy and popcorn. The live and silent auctions are also great fun
for the community. Some auction items in the past have included trips, patio
furniture, iPads, a complete playground installed in your yard, themed
baskets and so much more! Don’t forget the live music, clown and magic
shows for this two-day extravaganza!

NATURE PROGRAMS FOR PRESCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN
SATURDAYS IN NATURE
This program is held on the fourth Saturday of each month at the Edith L.
Moore Nature Sanctuary, held between 1 and 4 PM. A guided nature walk will
begin at 2 PM. No reservations required. Donations are encouraged. This is a
“whole family” program; parents or other adult guardians should participate
with their children. Park in the Memorial Drive United Methodist Church
parking lot at 12955 Memorial Drive, enter the nature sanctuary through the
marked gate and proceed on the path to the log cabin. Upcoming programs
include April: Bird Watching - Craft: TP Binoculars.
The Titmouse Club
The Titmouse Club is a nature program for children ages 2 ½ to 5 sponsored
by the Houston Audubon Docent Guild. The program is offered every Tuesday
and Wednesday morning, 10 to 11 AM, from mid-September until mid-May at
the Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary, 440 Wilchester Boulevard. Each week
features a different nature theme and may include nature talks, stories,

Nature Explorers Club is designed for school-age children (ages 6-10, K-5 th )

fish and tadpoles in the ponds and get to know the plants and animals of

The Wild West Brewfest is gearing up for its 7 th year! Over $600,000 raised

Anniversary B. F. Adam Golf Classic at BlackHorse Golf Club. Cypress

CAMP CORNERSTONE IS THE PLACE TO BE THIS SUMMER
for ages 2 through completion of 4 th grade!
Camp Cornerstone is a week-long camp sponsored by Cornerstone United
Methodist Church and is for children ages 2 through the completion of
4 th grade. Children must be 2 by June 1, 2018. Camp hours are 9:30 AM-1
PM. There are 3 sessions throughout the summer and you are invited to
participate in any or all!
Session I: “Totally Texas” is June 18 th -22 nd , Session II: “Artistic Creations”
is July 16 th -20 th , Session III: “Fairy Tale Adventures” is August 6 th -10 th . The
cost per camp per child is $120. You may pay $60 now and the remaining
$60 on the first day of camp. Registration forms are online or in the preschool
office. To download a form from the Cornerstone website, go to

Camp Cornerstone. You can print the form and have it filled out before you
arrive, saving yourself time!
Before each camp session begins, you will hear from your child’s teacher
so you can learn more about the camp and she will answer any questions

backpack and a lunch as they enjoy each other and the special things they
will do during the week. We look forward to having your child at camp this

plan. This week of Camp Hope, we will see how things can change along

Camp Hope is our three-week day camp for children ages 5 years old
through 6 th grade. It is an adult mentored student led ministry. Each day,
children will hear a new Bible story; learn what it means to their life by
creating a craft, eating a snack, playing a game and experiencing the story
through expressive arts and worship. Parents are invited to register their

SPRING CLEANING YOUR HOME
It’s 2018. A brand new year. A chance to start afresh, breathe in the new
and make resolutions. While you’re feeling enthused about a year that’s
new, now is the perfect time to look around your living space and start
doing some spring cleaning.
Gifts
Are there any gifts you received over the holidays or for your birthdays over
the years that you don’t like for whatever reason? Maybe they’re clothes
that didn’t fit or perfume you didn’t like the smell of. Unless they hold
sentimental value for you, let them go. Sell them. They’re taking up space.
Jewelry
If you have jewelry or lots of them, go through them all. Which ones still
speak to you and which ones no longer do? Let go of the ones that don’t. It
will also make you appreciate the ones you’ve decided to keep all the more.
Books
Go through your book collection. Get rid of the ones you’re truly never going
to read. Consider gifting some of the ones you’ve read to someone else.
Books are beautiful - the feel of them, the smell of them, being able to
physically hold one, the turning over of a page. However, give some
thought to whether there are some of your books you’d be willing to part
with and instead, access their digital versions using an electronic reader
like a Kindle or a Fire tablet.
Magazines/CDs/DVDs
Do you still have piles of old magazines, CDs, DVDs? Let them all go. If there
are any that are of particular value, sell them and give the rest to charity.
Appliances/Technology
Most people have an appliance stored away that they have never used or
hardly use. A coffee machine or smoothie maker, for instance. Any damaged
ones you’ve been telling yourself you’ll fix one day or spare laptops
or computers you rarely ever use can all be gotten rid of.
Shoes/Clothes
This is the last thing listed but is probably the first thing you should go
through. However, you can build up to it by doing one of the things already
listed. Unless you’re a minimalist, there are probably clothes and shoes of
yours you can go through and say your goodbyes to. Challenge yourself
to get rid of at least a quarter of it. For every three items you choose to
keep, let go of one item.
Spring cleaning can be freeing. You’re clearing energy. It can make your
living space feel lighter and make you feel lighter too. Imagine how it’ll
feel once you’ve finished spring cleaning your home, knowing that most
of what you’ve chosen to keep is what you actually want.
The New Year can also be a good time to start planning for any work you
may want done on your home. If you live in an old building and plan on
hiring someone to do the work for you, ensure they have the appropriate
lead certification first.

Come see a LIVE butterfly release! Messiah Lutheran Church is hosting its
annual Butterfly Family Festival. This year we are adding new events! Beginning
at 9 AM we will host multiple vendors along with our silent auction.
We’ve added a train ride, popcorn, cupcake decorating and an inflatable
basketball game.
Yes we will have your favorites: delicious BBQ lunch, cookies, a raffle,
children’s carnival games, cake walk, book walk, face painting, music,
inflatable slide and bounce house. We will feature both the Apple Watch,
Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) featuring a gray sport band and the Echo Second
Generation speaker with Alexa as part of the adult raffle. The silent auction

The Youth Choir of Cornerstone United Methodist Church will be presenting their
Spring musical “Christ in Every Season!” on Sunday, April 29th at the 10:45 AM
service. The story of the Christian Faith is the story of God’s love in His redemption
of humankind. The most important part of this story is the story of Jesus Christ.
The Youth Choir will present the life of Christ in song in “Christ in Every Season,”
as it is told in the various seasons of the Christian year. This includes Jesus’ birth,
life, teachings, miracles, suffering, death, resurrection and His giving of the Holy
Spirit. The Youth Choir will lead this worship event in singing Anthems, African
Songs, Praise Songs, Spirituals and Hymns.
THE FIVE LOVE LANGUAGES
Cornerstone United Methodist Church will be offering to the community a
study on Gary Chapman’s renown “The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love
That Lasts” starting on Tuesday, April 10th at 7-8:15 PM. This study reveals
how different people express love in different ways and contains the key
to understanding each other’s unique needs. What speaks love to you may
be meaningless to your spouse. Apply the right principles, learn the right
language and soon you’ll know the profound satisfaction and joy of being
able to express your love and feel truly loved in return. Each week the group
will view a teaching by Dr. Chapman and have the opportunity to discuss the
principles taught both in the small group and with your spouse. Singles are
also welcome as there will be opportunity to apply the teaching to relationships
with children, parents and other significant people in one’s life. Classes
will last for 75 minutes and a nursery for preschool children will be available
by advanced reservation. Each participant will need a small-group study
book, which can be purchased from the church. The cost is $10 per book.

SCHOLA CANTORUM
Do you want your children to become lifelong servants of the Church? Singing
in a children’s choir is a great way to help that. The St. Elizabeth Ann
Seton Schola Cantorum is currently accepting children Grades 4-12 for its
after-school choir program. The choir is responsible for enriching the Mass on
10:30 on Sundays and rehearses every Wednesday from 3:45-5 PM. Unique in
the area, the choir focuses on singing music from the rich Catholic tradition,
including chant and polyphony, as well as the finest modern church music.
Time is devoted to building the children’s skills of music reading, vocal
technique, thinking about the words and the structure and meaning of the
Mass. Service hours are available for older students. For more information,

ADULT ENGLISH CLASSES AT ENGLISH GATEWAY
English Gateway is a program designed to teach conversational English.
The vision and desire of English Gateway is to assist international families
in learning and improving English skills to help them live and be successful
here in the United States. We offer 6 different levels and have open registration
throughout the CFISD school year. Childcare is available for free for
pre-school children as long as they are registered beforehand.

CARAMEL PECAN PIE
You could make this on National Caramel Day April 5th!
INGREDIENTS:
1 (9 inch) unbaked pie crust
36 individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup milk
3/4 cup white sugar
3 eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup pecan halves
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C.) In a saucepan over low
heat, combine caramels, butter and milk. Cook, stirring frequently,
until smooth. Remove from heat and set aside.
In a large bowl, combine sugar, eggs, vanilla and salt. Gradually mix in the
melted caramel mixture. Stir in pecans. Pour filling into unbaked pie crust.
Bake in the preheated oven for 45 to 50 minutes or until pastry is golden
brown. Allow to cool until filling is firm. http://allrecipes.com
BACON RANCH CHEESE BALL

INGREDIENTS:
6 slices bacon
2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
1 (1 ounce) package buttermilk Ranch dressing mix
1/2 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
4 green onions, chopped
3 tablespoons chopped black olives
1 1/2 cups chopped pecans (optional)
DIRECTIONS:
Place the bacon in a large, deep skillet and cook
over medium-high heat, turning occasionally,
until evenly browned, about 10 minutes. Drain
the bacon slices on a paper towel-lined plate.
Chop the cooled bacon into small pieces.
Stir together the cream cheese and ranch
dressing mix in a bowl until smooth. Add the
bacon, cheddar cheese, green onions and olives, stir until well combined.
Shape the mixture into a ball and roll in the chopped pecans.
