Director of Cultural Affairs Qualifications<br />
• BA or graduate degree in Fine Arts, Art History, Arts Administration, Museum Studies and a BA<br />
or graduate degree in public or business administration, accounting, finance, economics.<br />
• Degree in one of these fields with comparable (4 years) experience working in the other.<br />
• One year full-time equivalent experience performing professional-level management and/<br />
or administrative duties in functional areas such as: program/office/operations management,<br />
budget development and/or administration, development and administration of contractual<br />
agreements and/or grants, or other closely related functional areas.<br />
• Minimum 2 years of directly related experience curating, managing and/or implementing highly<br />
visible public art projects.<br />
• A thorough working knowledge of contemporary art executed in a variety of modalities<br />
(sculpture/video/social/interactive/etc.), and successful experience with art installations in<br />
outdoor venues.<br />
• Working relationships with a broad range of local and national artists.<br />
• Experience working with artists, architects, engineers, contractors and highly specialized<br />
fabricators on large-scale projects in the public context.<br />
Knowledge of<br />
• Contemporary art and related issues, and in particular, knowledge and familiarity of the theory,<br />
principles, practices and procedures of public art programs.<br />
• Practices and techniques of administrative analysis and report preparation.<br />
• Budgetary and financial record keeping techniques and preparation.<br />
Ability to<br />
• Develop and implement public art programs, involving the design and integration of artwork into<br />
the construction of public sites and buildings.<br />
• Prepare, monitor and administer program budgets and contracts.<br />
• Manage art projects at various stages of development.<br />
• Manage all phases of the design, fabrication and installation of the artwork.<br />
• Work well independently and with team members.<br />
• Establish exceptional organizational skills, multi-task, prioritize work and meet critical deadlines.<br />
• Communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing.<br />
• Exercise sound independent judgment within established policies and guidelines.<br />
• Be highly organized and manage time effectively.<br />
• Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work<br />
• Communicate effectively at all levels within and outside the Agency.<br />

This may evolve to be one of the main tactics to link the disparate artists and groups to help form<br />
a larger art voice, community and presence. This site should be the go to for any resident or<br />
visitor interested in the arts which would reduce staff time answering basic information requests.<br />
