<strong>Elem</strong>entary <strong>Summer</strong> Music Program<br />

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC SESSIONS will take<br />

place in August, <strong>2018</strong>. Registration in<strong>for</strong>mation <strong>for</strong><br />

Instrumental Music, Band and Strings, will be<br />

coming home with the students later this spring.<br />

Registration <strong>for</strong> Instrumental Music will be in paper<br />

<strong>for</strong>mat, not online this year.<br />

and under. If you are participating<br />

in the lunch program, but not<br />

<strong>Elem</strong>entary <strong>School</strong> <strong>Summer</strong> Program<br />

Included in this brochure is a listing of courses offered<br />

this summer <strong>for</strong> Cudahy students (residents, current<br />

Open Enrollment, and Chapter 220 participants). We<br />

will notify you if a course is cancelled due to lack of<br />

sufficient enrollment. Please note any teacher recommendations<br />

<strong>for</strong> making course selections.<br />

Transportation is the responsibility of the parents.<br />

Sixth Grade Success Secrets: A class <strong>for</strong><br />

current 5th graders designed to make the transition<br />

into Middle <strong>School</strong> a successful one. Students will<br />

participate in activities with a focus on building<br />

self-esteem, solving conflicts, dealing with peer<br />

pressure, making friends, organizational and study<br />

skills, homework planning and stress management.<br />

1) Go to Cudahy <strong>School</strong> District website: www.cudahy.k12.wi.us<br />

2) Select “Parents” from the menu bar on the top of the page.<br />

3) Select “Skyward Family Access”<br />

4) Enter in your Login ID and Password. (If you do not remember your Login ID and Password,<br />

please select “Forgot your Login/Password. As long as your email is current on Skyward, you will<br />

receive an email to reset your login in<strong>for</strong>mation. If you need support, please call 414-294-7406.)<br />

5) You will see a message that indicates “Arena Scheduling” is now open <strong>for</strong> the <strong>2018</strong>-2019 school<br />

year.”<br />

6) On the left under “Arena Scheduling”, select the “<strong>2018</strong>-19 child” that you would like to schedule<br />

classes <strong>for</strong> <strong>Summer</strong> <strong>School</strong>.<br />

7) “Add” classes per each class period; Class 1 (8:00-9:25); Class 2 (9:30-10:55; Class 3 (11:00-<br />

12:45)<br />

8) Select lunch if taking lunch. (There is no submit button allowing changes throughout the open period.)<br />

9) To print schedule click on “View/Print Schedule” then select “print schedule”.<br />

10) Once completed verify all “Student In<strong>for</strong>mation” to make sure all in<strong>for</strong>mation is up to date. If not<br />

click on “My Account” on top of screen to make changes click Save.<br />

Medication Administration and Medical Alert In<strong>for</strong>mation<br />

<strong>Summer</strong> <strong>School</strong> administration will need medical in<strong>for</strong>mation <strong>for</strong> any student currently enrolled in the<br />

Cudahy <strong>School</strong> District. If you have any specific needs that you would like to relay to the <strong>Summer</strong><br />

<strong>School</strong> staff, please contact the summer school secretary<br />

Selection of <strong>Summer</strong> <strong>School</strong> Courses<br />

If you received a letter from your child’s principal indicating that they would benefit from a<br />

math and/or reading improvement course, please be sure to make this selection first.<br />

Please select the three courses that you would like to enroll your child in, making sure to select a<br />

course <strong>for</strong> each of the following sessions: Class 1 (8:00-9:25); Class 2 (9:30-10:55; Class 3 (11:00-<br />

12:45)<br />

Please make a selection of whether your child will participate in the free lunch program.<br />

This decision can be made at any time during summer school, but this will help us plan.<br />

Getting Ready <strong>for</strong><br />

Description: Children who are entering<br />

five-year-old kindergarten will find this class<br />

beneficial. Activities will help to develop<br />

pre-academic, social and group skills to aid<br />

the transition to kindergarten in the fall.<br />

Learning Through Play<br />

Description: Learning Through Play will<br />

introduce new content and play materials<br />

to stimulate students’ creativity and<br />

background knowledge.<br />

Fun With Words<br />

Eligibility: Students in four-year-old<br />

Description: Students in this class will<br />

build upon their phonemic awareness skills<br />

and learn new word families through fun,<br />

interactive games and activities.<br />

Getting Ready <strong>for</strong><br />

Kindergarten<br />

Description: This class will allow children<br />

to continue learning basic skills over<br />

the summer. Through enriching projects<br />

and activities, children will continue developing<br />

math, science, reading, writing,<br />

speaking, listening and thinking skills. By<br />

using a thematic approach to integrate the<br />

curriculum, first grade readiness skills will<br />

be taught and kindergarten concepts<br />

reviewed in a relaxed, "summer approach"<br />

to learning. This course is open to all<br />

students entering first grade in fall.<br />

Learning Math Using Physical Activity<br />

Eligibility: Students currently in<br />

Kindergarten<br />

Description: This class uses a variety of<br />

activities to enrich and enhance children's<br />

understanding of number sense and math<br />

concepts, such as joining, separating,<br />

comparing, ordering, etc. This motivating<br />

approach is a fun way to make connections<br />

to math using movement.<br />

Reading & Math Improvement<br />

Eligibility: Students in Kindergarten<br />

Description: The mastery of basic skills in<br />

Language Arts and Math is essential to<br />

success in school. You'll be receiving a letter<br />

from your school if this course is<br />

appropriate <strong>for</strong> your child.<br />

Students must register at their current grade level. Current grade level is student’s grade during the 17-18 school year.

Little Piñatas Club<br />

Eligibility: Students currently in<br />

Kindergarten<br />

Description: Students will participate in<br />

hands-on activities to teach them basic<br />

Spanish words, including colors, numbers,<br />

the alphabet, months, days of the week and<br />

animals. Students will be able to relay<br />

in<strong>for</strong>mation using basic sentences.<br />

Nutritious is Delicious<br />

Eligibility: Students currently in<br />

Kindergarten<br />

Description: This class offers<br />

students the opportunity to learn about<br />

the food groups, read recipes, eat<br />

healthy, make healthy snacks, and to<br />

exercise as a part of their daily routine.<br />

learn all about the 50 United States. This<br />

class will appeal to students of all learning<br />

styles and will include music, stories,<br />

and projects which will teach students<br />

about the many resources each state has<br />

to offer. Virtual field trips will allow students<br />

to experience national monuments<br />

from the com<strong>for</strong>t of the classroom. Fantastic<br />

adventures and learning will take<br />

place while kids complete their travel<br />

scrapbooks along the way. Prepare <strong>for</strong><br />

take-off! .<br />

reading/language arts is essential to success<br />

a wonderful, artistic adventure.<br />

During this enrichment class, students<br />

will virtually travel around the world while<br />

learning about the cultures of many<br />

countries along the way. This class will<br />

engage students through virtual field<br />

trips, music, stories, and projects.<br />

while kids fill their “passports” along the<br />

Eligibility: Students in grade 3<br />

Description: This class—<strong>for</strong> boys and girls—<br />

consists of a variety of sports. Sports introduced<br />

include: football, basketball, soccer, track and<br />

field, volleyball, baseball, and badminton.<br />

In this team-taught class, students learn how<br />

to develop positive competitive attributes.<br />

Students learn how to implement skills necessary<br />

to be successful in that sport.<br />

Students learn how to use conflict resolution<br />

strategies.<br />

Each class concludes with a group discussion<br />

and reflection of the day’s activities. Students<br />

are required to write a journal entry <strong>for</strong> each<br />

day of class and <strong>for</strong> other out-of-class experiences.<br />

Students learn how to implement skills necessary<br />

to be successful in that sport.<br />

Students learn how to use conflict resolution<br />

Each class concludes with a group discussion and<br />

reflection of the day’s activities. Students are<br />

required to write a journal entry <strong>for</strong> each day of<br />

Description: This class is <strong>for</strong> all levels of<br />

swimmers. Students will be grouped according<br />

to their ability level. Beginners will learn<br />

basic swimming skills, Intermediates will learn<br />

strokes and diving, and Advanced will work to<br />

build endurance, advanced strokes and<br />

proper diving <strong>for</strong>m. To add to this class,<br />

students will participate in recreational water<br />

sports .<br />

Sixth Grade Success!<br />

For Current 5 th Graders<br />

Sixth Grade Success is <strong>for</strong> current 5 th grade students who will be<br />

entering into Cudahy Middle <strong>School</strong> <strong>for</strong> the <strong>2018</strong>—2019 school year.<br />

WHO: Current 5 th grade students entering into 6 th grade in the fall.<br />

WHAT: A class designed to make the transition into Middle <strong>School</strong> a successful<br />

one. Students will participate in activities with a focus on building self-esteem,<br />

solving conflicts, dealing with peer pressure, making friends, organizational and<br />

study skills, homework planning and stress management.<br />

WHEN: August 21 st and 22 nd ; 1/2 day session located at the Middle <strong>School</strong><br />
