OBITUARY: Aalders, Henry Lambert - The community was shocked to hear that Henry Aalders
had passed away at Kings Memorial Hospital, Berwick, on April 17 (1930), aged 58 years. Mr.
Aalders, who had been ailing for some time, entered the hospital only a day or two previous, and
friends did not anticipate anything serious and were quite unprepared for the news of his death.
There were left to mourn their loss, his wife, six sons, and four daughters: Kenneth of Berwick;
Cecil of Aaldersville; Paul of Montreal; Arnold, Harry and Clayton at home; Annie (Mrs. Ernest
Russell, New Ross); Elsie, (Mrs. Walter Washburn, Berwick); Idella of Halifax, and Teresa at

of the Anglican Church. Through example, Onabel taught us all to take care of each other and
always lend a helping hand. She also enjoyed knitting, embroidery, keeping her pantry well stocked
with homemade treats and was always up for a good game of 45’s.
As I read online condolences posted in her memory I got a feeling that she was very loved and fun
to be around. The stories shared were so nice to see and gave me a feel for the person she was.

FUNERAL LARGEST EVER HELD IN THE COMMUNITY
New Ross - Residents of New Ross and nearby communities were deeply shocked when learning
of the passing of Percy Reeves Friday afternoon at the D.M. Hospital, Bridgewater, where he was
taken the previous day, following a shooting accident at Nine Mile Lake.
The death of Mr. Reeves, young husband and father of three small children, made the third tragic
accident to occur in the community within a week. R.C.M.P. requested a helicopter to take Reeves
to hospital as the area in which he was wounded was inaccessible by land. The helicopter flew the
victim to the Lunenburg County Exhibition Grounds at Bridgewater and he was transferred from
there to hospital by ambulance. The bullet hit Reeves in the hip and lodged in his stomach.
Mr. Reeves was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Reeves of Forties, New Ross, and was 32 years old.
He attended the Lake Ramsay school and when completing his education he was engaged in
lumbering and trucking until a few years ago when he and his brother Clifford operated a sawmill.
In 1946 he married Miss Della Russell of New Ross, who survives him. Surviving also are his
three small children Grant, Valerie and Barbara; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Reeves, Forties;
five brothers Clifford, Maurice, Courtney all, of Forties; Basil of West Northfield; Orin of New Ross
also four sisters, Madeline, (Mrs. Melvin Walker), Upper Granville; Elsie, ( Mrs. Harold French),
Maine; Elva, (Mrs. Ernest Bezanson), Ontario and Pansy, (Mrs. Foster Hiltz) ofForties.

The remains rested at the Lindsay Funeral Home, Kentville, until Monday when they were brought
to his late residence for a short service at the house and thence to Christ Church for service at 3
o'clock, conducted by Father John Mitchell. The church, which seats 300 persons was filled to
overflowing and as many again had to stand outside. A loud speaker was installed in the church to
enable outsiders, an estimated 800 persons in all, to take part in the service which was the largest
funeral ever to be held in New Ross.
Hymns sung were "Just As I Am Without One Plea", "Safe In The Arms OfJesus". Pallbearers
were Ernest Veinott, David Crossley, Paul Veinott, ErnestSwinimer, Dean Reeves and Russell
Keddy. Interment was in the family lot in the new cemetery. Floral tributes were many and
beautiful.

Burgoyne, Benjamin - On Wednesday, Aug. 30th, (1916) there passed to the great beyond one of
New Ross' noblest citizens, Benjamin Burgoyne aged 94 years and 5 months. He was born at
Mahone Bay, April 1st, 1822, and came to New Ross with his parents when only 7 years of age.
He spent the rest of his life there a tiller of the soil. He married Miss Mary Ann Aalders, who was
younger than he, but whose birthday was also April 1st, and together they have raised a family of 3
sons and 7 daughters, Walter S. living in Windsor; Edgar N. on the homestead; Wellesley and
Mary, who passed before; Agnes, Mrs. Ephraim R. Hiltz, of Kingsport; Adelaide, the widow of the
late G. Thomas Hillman, of Halifax; Esther E. wife of Milledge Young, Mahone Bay; Mary E., wife of
Harry Kaulbach, of Conquerall Mills; Emily E. wife of George E. Hatchard,Aaldersville, and Eva, at
home, who with her mother has been his untiring attendant during the three years of his
feebleness, paralysis. Aaldersville, named for his father-in-law Peter Aalders (one of the soldier
pioneers), has much to thank the family of the deceased for it's improvement, particularly in the
erection of the beautiful chapel of St. James in which the funeral service was held where the final
resting place received his remains at the Parish Church Cemetery, at Charring Cross.

Obituary: Burgoyne, Edgar Norwood - 81,respected resident and retired farmer of Aaldersville,
died Monday, Oct 4, 1958 following a four-day illness. Mr. Burgoyne, who was a life-long resident
of the community in which he resided, was the son of the late Benjamin and Mary Ann Burgoyne.
Surviving are his wife, the former Florence Hiltz, Aaldersville; two sons; Clinton and Ray,
Aaldersville; four daughters, Eva (Mrs. Aldon Durling) Kentville; Helen (Mrs. Floyd Smith)
