life. From the grief caused by
the lack of toys to the grievance
made out of a desire to
outshine the rest of the children
and keepsakes, the forthcoming
‘shikayat’ number of
Monthly Sathee will be an
all-encompassing literary
treasure devoted to children
and young adults.
According to Mohammad
Azam Tariq, children’s literature
in Urdu is gaining maturity,
reflecting every phase of
childhood, comprising diaper-wearing
age to postcrawling
stages that are largely
ruled by naivety, creating
adventures, celebrations of
small achievements, consistent
exploration and then the
ear-piercing jubilation made
out of discovering something
new and more fascinating.
“Appearing in May 2018,
the bereaved family and
have prayed that Almighty
Allah rest the departed soul
‘Shikayat Number’ brings children’s Urdu
Literature to a new area: Editor Sathee
‘shikayat’ edition will celebrate
childhood with its all
innocence and highbrow attitude
towards learning,
schooling and the other
things experienced in the
early years of one’s life in
particular. Frankly speaking,
the ‘complain and get what
you want’ is typically an
early childhood phenomenon,
which truly defines
infancy, a golden period of
one’s life no one wants to forget
in any case,” says
water-way system comprising
52-km long tunnels
and an underground
power house. The project
will provide about five
billion low-cost hydel
electricity to the
National Grid every year.
Annual benefits of the
project have been estimated
at Rs.55 billion.
men, and the average body
mass index and weight were
24 kg/m2 and 65 kg, respectively.
The researchers found
that standing burned 0.15
kcal per minute more than
sitting. By substituting standing
for sitting for six hours a
day, a 65 kg person would
expend an extra 54 kcal a
day.Assuming no increase in
food intake, that would
equate to 2.5 kg in one year
and 10 kg in four years.
The gap in energy expenditure
while standing.

CONTROVERSIES, truths and lies surround
the issues related to oil in Pakistan,
as is the situation elsewhere in some other
oil producing and exporting countries including
and especially in the Muslim world. A former oil
minister was under trial on charges of financial
corruption too in Pakistan.
REVOLUTIONS and overthrow of regimes has
taken place on oil issue: It's said that foreign companies
who have technological know-how and
expertise take wrong advantage of wealth of
nations deprived by foreign installed governments
in their war on human and natural resources of
leaders and masses here and there around the
world, especially the oil rich Muslim blocs run as
if by chief executives of some commercial enterprise,
cartels or big business corporations.
BADIN crude, though of high quality and low
in sulphur, has limitations for refining as it contains
high percentage of wax and has to be mixed
with imported crude oil. This has resulted in surplus
Badin crude, to the level of 9,000-10,000 bpd,
which was exported until 2005. Export of crude oil
has emerged again since June 2014 as the government
has allowed petroleum producers to ship surplus
quantities to foreign buyers in the wake of
availability of large quantities of ultra-light crude
oil (condensate, coming out of gas-fields) that is
difficult to process in most of local refineries.
Resultantly, crude oil has now a significant share
in Pakistan’s exports of the petroleum group
amounting to $ 586 million in 2014-15.
PRODUCTION of oil placed Pakistan on global
ranking of 42nd among 98 oil-producing countries.
From 10,000 bpd in 1980s, crude oil production
increased to 60,000 bpd in 1990s, but
remained static until the 2,000s. It was only in
2013 that oil production jumped to 80,800 bpd,
Here is what the former FBI director James
Comey said when he was asked back in
September 2016 if he covered his laptop’s
webcam with tape.
“Heck yeah, heck yeah. Also, I get mocked for a
lot of things, and I am much mocked for that, but I
hope people lock their cars ... lock your doors at
night. I have an alarm system, if you have an alarm
system you should use it, I use mine.” If he does, we
all should.
Who could be accessing your camera and microphone?
Apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, Snapchat,
Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Viber.
Felix Krause described in 2017 that when a user
grants an app access to their camera and microphone,
the app could do the following:
Access both the front and the back camera; record
you at any time the app is in the foreground; take pictures
and videos without telling you; upload the pictures
and videos without telling you; upload the pictures/videos
it takes immediately; run real-time face
recognition to detect facial features or expressions;
live-stream the camera on to the internet; detect if the
user is on their phone alone, or watching together
with a second person; upload random frames of the
video stream to your web service and run a proper
face recognition software which can find existing
photos of you on the internet and create a 3D model
based on your face.
For instance, here’s a Find my Phone application
which a documentary maker installed on a phone,
then let someone steal it. After the person stole it, the
original owner spied on every aspect of every
moment of the thief’s life through the phone’s camera
and microphone.
The documentary tracks every move of this person,
from brushing their teeth, to going to work. To
grabbing a bite to eat with their co-worker, to intimate
moments with a loved one. This is the power of
apps that have access to your camera and microphone.
Edward Snowden revealed an NSA program
called Optic Nerves. The operation was a bulk surveillance
program under which they captured webcam
images every five minutes from Yahoo users’
video chats and then stored them for future use. It is
estimated that between 3 per cent and 11 per cent of
the images captured contained “undesirable nudity”.
Government security agencies like the NSA can also
have access to your devices through inbuilt backdoors.
This means that these security agencies can
tune in to your phone calls, read your messages, capture
pictures of you, stream videos of you, read your
EDITORIAL
Where is heavy load of oil
and cash going even today?
OPINION
having achieved a high of 98,000 bpd in
November 2014. Crude oil production registered
91,000 bpd in May 2015 and 93,000 bpd in June
2015.
PITIFULLY, Pakistan's share in total consumption
of oil was about 10% until 1980s. Where does
that other heavy load of oil goes? It needs a probe.
It's said that foreign oil companies give a paltry single
digit percentage to government and reaps most
of the other financial and non financial rewards.
One reason is that foreign companies have some
know how, equipment and technology they won't
give, except one way terms not favorable to
Pakistan. If properly held accountable, Pakistan
can save on double digit billions in oil import, satisfy
domestic demands from internal oil production,
and even export surplus oil to other countries.
Present indigenous oil meets about 23% of total
national demand of the oil refineries in the country.
An integrated network of pipeline exists for transportation
of indigenous crude oil to the refineries.
Indeed, the availability of indigenous crude oil
expands the opportunity to meet growing demand
of oil and to reduce Pakistan's dependence on
imports, but it is imperative for the government to
accord high priority to developing the sector expeditiously.
It may be advisable for the government
to revisit the Petroleum Exploration & Production
Policy in vogue, since discoveries are correlated
with drilling efforts.
Question that arises since many decades past up
to now: Where is heavy load of oil and cash going?
Iranians demonstrated and toppled their imperial
majesty on issues that included oil and revenue
and its exploitation by foreign companies. Same is
the situation in many Arab nations in Middle East
and Gulf countries. Answers to this question are
expected by many nations from respective rulers!
Are your phone camera and
microphone spying on you?
Digital mindfulness will help you to be careful on the internet, and take
precautionary measures that will save pain and potential ruin in the future
emails, steal your files ... at any moment they please.
Hackers can also gain access to your device with
extraordinary ease via apps, PDF files, multimedia
messages, and even emojis.
An application called Metasploit on the ethical
hacking platform Kali uses an Adobe Reader 9
(which over 60 per cent of users still use) exploit to
open a listener (rootkit) on the user’s computer. You
alter the PDF with the program, send the user the
malicious file, they open it, and hey presto — you
have total control over their device remotely.
Once a user opens this PDF file, the hacker can
then:
Install whatever software/app they like on the
user’s device; use a key logger to grab all of their
passwords; steal all documents from the device; take
pictures and stream videos from their camera; capture
past or live audio from the microphone; upload
incriminating images/documents to their PC, and
notify the police; and, if it’s not enough that your
phone is tracking you; surveillance cameras in shops
and streets are tracking you, too.
You might even be on this website, InSeCam,
which allows ordinary people online to watch surveillance
cameras free of charge. It even allows you
to search by location, city, time zone, device manufacturer,
and specify whether you want to see a
kitchen, bar, restaurant or bedroom.
How would we feel, if someone were standing
outside our bedroom window, staring in through the
curtains. The most common response would be to
call the police. However, what do we do when everyone
is being monitored? We shake our head, and try
to forget it’s happening. Try to go on with our lives
and ignore the constant nag that we’re being
watched.
If this article achieves anything, I hope it teaches
you digital mindfulness. This is the act of being careful
on the internet, and taking precautionary measures
to save yourself pain and potential ruin in the
future, all because you didn’t install an anti-virus or
put a little bit of tape over your camera.
A good first step to counteracting these issues is
study what permissions an app asks for. Does an app
like LinkedIn really require camera access? Does an
app like Twitter really require microphone access?
Before you download an app, check out the reviews
and search for any negative information about it to
prevent yourself future harm.
Always make sure to cover your webcam with
tape, and plug out your microphones when you’re
done using them. You never know who’s watching,
or what’s happening in the background on your
device. It’s only paranoia until it’s too late.
warning the U.S. president
that Tehran’s response
would be stronger than he
thinks.
U.S. sanctions that were
lifted under the Joint
Comprehensive Plan of
Action (JCPOA) of 2015
will resume unless Trump
waives them again on May
12. Trump has effectively
set that as a deadline for
European powers to “fix
the terrible flaws” of the
deal.
“The new U.S. president
- who has big claims and
many ups and downs in his
words and actions - has
been trying for 15 months
to break the JCPOA ... but
the structure of the JCPOA
is so strong that it has not
been shaken by such
quakes,” Rouhani said in a
speech broadcast live on
state television.
“Iran will not violate the
nuclear deal, but if the
United States withdraws
from the deal, they will
surely regret it. Our
response will be stronger
than what they imagine and
they would see that within a
week.”
Iran has warned that it
would ramp up its nuclear
program if the JCPOA collapses,
to achieve a more
advanced level than before
the deal.
Rouhani was speaking
as Tehran marked National
Nuclear Technology Day
and unveiled what it said
were its latest nuclear
achievements including a
nuclear battery and centrifuges
for the oil industry.
Rouhani said Iran has
been preparing for every
possible scenario, including
a JCPOA without the
United States - which
would still include
European signatories,
China and Russia - or no
deal at all.
Pope Francis said on
Monday that Catholics
should not give “excessive
importance” to certain
Church rules while
disregarding others, urging
opponents of abortion
to show equal passion
for the lives of the
poor and oppressed.
The pope made his
appeal in a major document
known as an
Apostolic Exhortation
called “Gaudete et
Exsultate” (Rejoice and
be Glad), a 100-page
booklet on how people
can be holy in a modern
world filled with secular
distractions and materialism.
In it, he urged people
to try to be “the saint
next door” by doing
good and living the
Gospel as best they
could, keeping charity
and mercy, rather than
rigid rules, at the center
of their lives.
JEDDAH: When Amirah
al-Turkistani left Boston in
2015 after earning a graduate
degree, friends mocked her
decision to ship her beloved
pistachio-colored bicycle
back home to Saudi Arabia.
“They told me, ‘What
will you do with it in Jeddah,
hang it on the wall?’” she
laughed, referring to her
hometown on the Red Sea
coast.
Riding in public was
unthinkable at the time in the
deeply conservative Muslim
kingdom, where religious
police patrolled public
spaces to enforce modest
dress, bans on music and
alcohol, prayer-time store
closures and the mixing of
unrelated men and women.
Fast forward three years
andAmirah is riding regularly
attack on Saturday in the
militant-held town of
Douma in the Eastern
Ghouta region left dozens
dead and drew international
condemnation from various
countries and international
bodies.
Damascus, in a statement
released late on Saturday,
strongly rejected the allegation
of using chemical munitions
and said that the socalled
Jaish al-Islam Takfiri
terrorist group, which has
dominant presence in
Douma, was repeating the
accusations “in order to
accuse the Syrian Arab
army, in a blatant attempt to
hinder the Army’s advance.”
Moscow also rejected the
accusations against the
Syrian government as bogus
reports and warned of consequences
of an attack on
Damascus.
Orban's party signals
crackdown after
victory in Hungary
BUDAPEST: Hungary’s
ruling Fidesz party signalled on
Monday it could push on
quickly with legislation to
crack down on organisations
promoting migrant rights as
soon as parliament reconvenes
after PM Viktor Orban’s
sweeping election victory.
The right-wing nationalist
projected himself as a saviour
of Hungary’s Christian culture
against Muslim migration into
Europe, an image which resonated
with more than 2.5 million
voters, especially in rural
areas.
His Fidesz party won a
two-thirds majority for the
third time straight time in
Sunday’s election, meaning he
again has the powers to change
constitutional laws - potentially
paving the way for further friction
with the European Union.
The victory could embolden
Orban to put more muscle
into a Central European
alliance against EU migration
policies, working with other
right-wing nationalists in
Poland and Austria, and further
expose cracks in the 28-
nation bloc.
The
Chairman Standing
to bring amendments in
the policies of sale tax,
department.
According to details, he
made demands through
separate letters that were
written to member custom
Federal Board of Revenue
(FBR) and Member policy
FBR Islamabad. While
pointing out the troubles of
steel pipe industry regarding
the custom act he stated
that regulatory duty up
to 12.50% on import of
steel products was feasible.
He pointed out in written
letters that same law
should be formulated for
industrials and exporters so
that can compete each
other in market.
The chairman pointed
out that the further tax has
created a mess for the
industry and it cannot be
handled as we have a very
specific value addition and
finding registered persons
to save further tax is
almost impossible.
Secondly the sections
236G and 236H don't have
a proper application so
these should be considered
removal for industry in this
budget, he added in written
letters.
not a huge fan of IPL in particular
but love to follow the
club matches".
"I have not been following
IPL matches and don't
wish to watch all matches. I
have lost interest and if time
permits, will watch matches
only involving my state players.
Basically, I love to see
my Kerala state cricketers
doing well in the matches".
He, however, emphasizes,
"The ban slapped on me by
the Indian cricket board is
not the reason for losing
interest in the IPL. Yes, I am
sad but now we have to
move on. They (the BCCI
officials) are busy in their
own and I am busy in my
practice at my own ground
and I am happy with it".
ISLAMABAD: Speaker
National Assembly Sardar
Ayaz Sadiq has said that
supremacy of Constitution
was our ultimate destination
that guaranteed democracy,
fundamental rights and
security for each and every
citizen of the State.
He said that the sanctity
of this sacred document was
immense which must be
upheld at any cost. He
expressed these views on
the eve of “Constitution
Day” being celebrated on
April 10, 2018 across the
country.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq highlighted
the historical significance
of the day and said
that 45 years ago the representatives
of the first democratically
elected legislature
of the country - united by
common purpose and an
unwavering resolve – unanimously
passed the
Constitution of the country
as a guiding principle to our
journey towards a democratic,
peaceful and prosperous
country.
He lamented that periodic
interventions by undemocratic
forces held the
Constitution in abeyance
and retarded the pace of a
strong federation and democratic
culture. Such misadventures
proved detrimental
to state of security, human
rights and development of
the country, he added.
Remembering the sacrifices
rendered by the political
forces of the country to
ensure supremacy of the
Constitution, Speaker
National Assembly said that
the democratic forces while
striving for reinstating
Constitution and restoring
democracy faced enormous
challenges and they confronted
the tyrannical
regimes with resilience and
an unrelenting resolve for
supremacy of the constitution.
He paid rich tribute to
those unsung heroes who
ceased to exist in the history
but made every effort to
defend the sanctity of the
Constitution by facing torture,
imprisonment and
even execution enforced by
the autocratic regimes.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said
During the course of
Sharma-Virat Kohli’s relationship
became the “big”
news as the couple tied the
knot in December last
year. But unlike the common
belief that married
heroines barely have a
promising career ahead in
the industry, well, Anushka
has four releases in the
pipeline. Her last release
‘Pari’ was a horror movie
that did get the attention of
the audiences. The upcoming
year will have the actor
portray different characters
onscreen. Currently,
Anushka is busy shooting
with and redefined
good expectations from
PPP and its democratic role
