Speaker of the House of
Representatives, Hon.
Yakubu Dogara, says it is regrettable
that many of the over
200 Chibok school girls in
Borno State were still in captivity
four years after their abduction
by Boko Haram.
The Speaker made the remark
in commemoration of
the fourth anniversary of the
girls’ abduction in Abuja, yesterday.
While urging intensified efforts
towards providing adequate
security at schools in the
country, Dogara, in a statement
from his office, called on
President Muhammadu Buhari
to step up action that
would lead to the rescue of the
girls.
The Speaker also tasked
the executive arm of government
on the release of Leah
Sharibu, the Dapchi girl who
was not released along with
other abductees, reportedly
for refusing to renounce her
faith.
“It is unfortunate that four
years after, all of our daughters
have still not been accounted
for. This underpins the
need to take swift action when
such incidents occur and to
provide adequate security, not
on a temporary basis but permanently,
so that such tragedies
can be prevented”, the
statement said.
“Nigeria has an alarming
number of children out of
school and if we genuinely
want to solve this challenge,
then we must make our learning
institutions as safe and secure
as possible.
“One can only imagine the
amount of grief that the parents
of those whose daughters
are yet to be rescued have to
cope with on a daily basis.
While we may offer words of
support, the fact remains that
nothing will put them in better
spirits than to be reunited
with their children.
“I hereby call on President
Muhammadu Buhari, as the
father of the nation and Commander-in-Chief
of the Armed
Forces, to put an end to their
sorrow by freeing their daughters
from captivity.
“We must also remember
Leah Sharibu and her remarkable
bravery and intensify
efforts as a nation to bring
her home. All others who were
taken by these terrorists
against their will must also be
reunited with their people. The

The outgoing Deputy Na
tional Chairman (South)

(APC), Chief Segun Oni, says
the steady increase of Nigeria’s
foreign reserves under President
Muhammadu Buhari is
a clear indication that the Federal

policies are working contrary
to the claims from the main
opposition party, the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP).
Oni, in a statement by his
media aide, Mr. Steve Alabi, in
Ado-Ekiti, pointed out that the
leap of $45 billion, which is 54
months high, is a radical departure
from the constant depletion
that happened under
the PDP in the last administration.
Oni commended Buhari for
providing strong and transparent
leadership that led to the
increase through the stoppage
of unnecessary importation
which has reduced the nation’s
import bill and the encouragement
of foreign investment
which has increased investor
activity tremendously.
“We must not forget where
we are coming from. The economy
was badly managed; foreign
reserves were being depleted
to satisfy the consumption
cravings of a greedy political
and business class. The APC
government, under the able
leadership of President Buhari,
is daily turning things around.
The economy is now stable. It’s
stabilized, it can no longer go
down, it can only come up. This
is one of the main achievements
of this administration.”

Ogun State government
has said that since the
Home Grown School Feeding
Programme started over a year
ago, it had employed 2,948
food vendors to cook for pupils
in 1,510 public primary
schools.
It also said it had recorded a
sharp increase in enrolment
of pupils into public primary
schools.The state Commissioner
for Special Duties, Adeleke
Adewolu, disclosed this while
fielding questions from newsmen
on the sidelines of the
meeting of Transparency and
Accountability Project for
Home Grown School Feeding
Programme in the state.
The programme is one of
Nigerians to take advantage
of the opportunities the Buhari
administration is creating in
the economy, particularly in the
agricultural and productive
sectors, to improve their own

a former governor of Ekiti

Ahmed as Medical Director
of Federal Medical Centre,

The appointment of
Ahmed was greeted with wild

Governor Ifeanyi
Ugwuanyi of Enugu State for

Senator Ike Ekweremadu,

the governor for entrenching
peace and good governance
in the state, pointing out that
prior to the inception of his
administration, the state had
witnessed some challenges
that undermined its peace.
Ekweremadu said the people
of Enugu State and Enugu
West in particular were
happy that Ugwuanyi had
brought “permanent peace”
in the state.

Prince Arthur
Eze, who graced the event,

his re-election in 2019.

Kidnappers reject N5m offer for
Otun Olubadan’s twins
The Otun Olubadan of
Ibadanland, Oba Lekan
Balogun, has pleaded
with the kidnappers of his twin
children to release them.
He made the plea while
speaking with the News Agency
of Nigeria (NAN), yesterday,
in Ibadan.
He appealed to the kidnappers
to bear with him as he
does not have the money being
requested. The kidnappers
initially demanded
N100 million ransom and
later reduced it to N40 million.

NAN reports that gunmen
on Thursday, kidnapped the
five-year-old twins of Balogun
from his Akobo residence
