Ulises Returns with Ethics Training
at April 20 luncheon
Dear Mid-Valley Members,
I want to send out a big “Thank You”
to all of you who made our March Luncheon
meeting, and to our guest speaker,
Christine Reed. We so appreciate her
taking the time and travel to share her
knowledge and expertise with us, and
providing the necessary training for our annual “Fair Claims Settlement
Practices Act” regulations certification.
As always, Christine brought great energy and levity along with
the valuable insight and information she provides.
We conducted a brief election of officers to carry us through 2018
at the March meeting, as well. I am very pleased to announce the
additions of Vice President Bryan Harrison, and new Secretary,
Liza Wisecarver, to our executive staff. These two fine folks have
agreed to join Treasurer Staci Moreno and myself to lead this
organization through the coming year.
We are still looking to fill out the rest of the board, as well. Please
let one of us know should you be interested in potentially serving.
I am so pleased that Mr. Ulises Castellon is available and able
to not just present at our April 20th luncheon, but has agreed to
provide us with a one-hour Continuing Education approved course
on “Ethics and the Claims Adjuster”! I encourage each of you to
invite a colleague, client/industry professional who may benefit
from this course.
We will begin with check-in as early as 11:30 am, with lunch running
roughly noon to 1pm. The educational program will continue
to its completion for all those who are able to stay beyond 1:00.
Our association survives, and thrives, only through our members
participation. We encourage not only your attendance, but your
suggestions, feedback, and as much involvement as you are willing
and able to give.
Our members are what make this organization. I appreciate each
and every one of you, and look forward to seeing you this Friday!
Regards,
Christine Reed Provides DOI Fair Claims Regs Recertification
at March MVCA
By Bryan Harrison
The Mid-Valley Claims Association welcomed returning
guest speaker, Christine Reed, of Low Ball & Lynch, with
the annual Fair Claims Settlement Practices Act Recertification
luncheon seminar March 16, 2018.
Ms. Reed, partner from the Carmel Law offices of Low
Ball & Lynch, conducted the annual recertification of the
California DOI’s “Fair Claims Settlement Practices Act”
regulations.
Ms. Reed emphasized the importance of being be sure, as
claims professionals, you always
document every detail,
and maintain communications
with an insured.
California Insurance Code
790.03 (h) sets forth sixteen
claims settlement practices
that are deemed to be unfair,
and thus prohibited, when an
insured either “knowingly
committed” them on a single
occasion, or committed them with such a
frequency so as to make them a part of a
general business practice.
She detailed numerous mandates, and
stressed the importance of meeting time
lines.
“You must acknowledge notice of claim,
and maintain communications throughout
the claims investigation process,” she
explained.
Numerous questions and discussion with the claims people
in the crowd followed, and all those in need received their
certificate of completion.
Returning guest speaker for the Fair Claims Regs
recertification, Christine Reed
MVCA President, Sherry Wenograd thanked guest
speaker, Christine Reed
Election of MVCA officers was held at the March luncheon, as well. Presented
and accepted were the following:
President - Sherry Wenograd; Vice President - Bryan Harrison; Secretary -
Liza Wisecarver (pictured above right); and Treasurer - Staci Moreno
Spring is in the air, and golf
tournaments on the near horizon!
By Bryan Harrison, Association News Network Publisher
April showers, and all that. Spring is in the air, and
golf tournaments on the near horizon!
Even before tee-off time, our affiliate associations have
some strong luncheon programs in the month of April.
East Bay Claims Association kicked things off with
returning guest speaker, the popular Vinh Pham, of
Envirocheck. Mr. Pham brought clarity in discussing
Asbestos Contamination Assessments at the April 11th
EBCA luncheon meeting, at Zio Fraedo’s in Pleasant Hill. He provided
quality information and an enlightened perspective.
EBCA also just announced their 17th annual Golf Tournament, to be held
Friday, July 27, 2018. It’s an ‘80s Theme, back at Eagle Vines Golf Club in
Napa. Sign-up now at: www.EastBayClaims.org.
Sacramento Claims hosted their first regular luncheon meeting for 2018,
Thursday, April 12th. Featured special guest speaker was Mr. Peter Meza,
from the California Department of Insurance. Mr. Meza addressed some of
the Inner-workings of property claims at the CDI, plus shared some insight
on the recently passed Insurance Diversity Initiative.
SCA is holding their annual Golf Tournament Friday, May 11th. “Kentucky
Derby” is the theme this year, being held again at Turkey Creek Golf Course
in Lincoln. Secure your spot right away at: www.SacramentoClaims.org
to get in on this.
And, finally, the Mid-Valley Claims Association is holding their next luncheon
meeting Friday, April 20, 2018. MVCA is very pleased to welcome perennial
favorite guest speaker, Mr. Ulises Castellon, CPCU, RPA, of Fire Cause
Analysis. Mr. Castellon will be presenting a one-hour certified CE Course
on “Ethics for the Claims Professional”. This is one not to miss, as well. Go
to: www.MidValleyClaims.org to secure your luncheon spot.
Spring season represents new and resurgent life. May you find new challenges,
new opportunities, and great growth in your personal and professional
life this Spring.
See you around the network!
Warm regards,
Bryan
