The Essential Digital Marketing Checklist for a
High Ranking Online Presence
Written as an article, by the CEO of Digital Managed, Bryan Young, (A.K.A. Mr. Retail), and
reproduced, with permission, as this eBook.
For Digital Marketing to be successful, it is important to ensure that your online presence
has been set up correctly.
If not, you can kiss page one goodbye as your content blends into millions of others fighting
for the same market as you and only the highest AdWords bidder will win.
By getting the essentials right, you will rank better organically for your chosen Keywords
and thus you will save hundreds, perhaps thousands, by no longer having to pay for online
advertising for those keywords where you rank well anyway.
Follow the Checklist
What follows is a checklist that outlines
the minimum aspects of your online
presence that are essential to effective
Digital Marketing.
As you tick each item off the list, your
Google rankings will begin to improve,
almost like magic.
Yes, there is a lot more involved in getting on and staying on page one, but this checklist
will help make your Digital Marketing Campaigns actually work.
Not keen on doing this yourself? Click Here to contact Digital Managed, and get them to do
everything for you.

1 - Local Listings
For local businesses, make sure you are on Google
Maps/Google My Business and as many Local Search
Listings as possible.
For larger companies, e.g. a Franchise, make sure
your Head Office is locally listed and your outlets
have their own local listings.
To get started on Google My Business and setup
your Google Maps listing at the same time, Click Here and follow the instructions.
2 - Get Verified
The Google Maps listing, created during the
Google My Business sign up, must be verified
before Google lists it properly. This is prove you
are a legitimate business but can take a week or
two to occur.
While you wait, you can update things like the
header image, description, trading hours etc.
If you don’t want your address shown publicly,
tell it not to but remember to also tell it that
you deliver to surrounding suburbs.
Also, verify your Facebook location so your page shows up in local searches too.

3 - Website or Blog
If you have a website, whether produced
professionally or created by yourself, make
sure it can post regular updates.
This could be a Blog page, a News and
Events page or perhaps a Newsletter.
Google loves sites with regularly updated
content, as it helps to engage people for
return visits.
If you don’t have a website, at least start a Blog
4 -Video is King
Try to include a video with everything you do.
Shared videos from other sources is okay but
those made by you are better, as they authenticate
that you are genuinely providing content
for those searching for it.
Live videos help to boost rankings, as Google
and Facebook’s facial recognition software can
detect you are real.
YouTube is owned by Google, so anything you upload to this platform will be more likely to
be found in Google searches than on any other video platform.
A good idea is to upload videos to YouTube and then embed the link to the video on your
site’s page or Blog article.

5 - Essential Social Media Sites
Highly visited Social Media pages now rank well outside of the platforms themselves and
certainly via the search engines within them.
When it comes to which platforms you should
choose, consider your audience and which
platform they are most likely to use, to find
things similar to what you will be promoting.
Regardless of what you do, Facebook cannot
be ignored, so get a Facebook page for sure.
Google likes Google, so it would be a good
idea to get Google Plus and or YouTube.
If you do B2B, get LinkedIn. If you broadcast
updates, e.g. news or events, get on Twitter.
If you sell things people like to see, e.g. clothes or jewellery, get Instagram and or Pinterest.
Anything else is up to you.
6 - Links
Wherever possible, include links back to your
other listings, e.g. social media linked to website,
website linked to social media and so on.
Also associate with major players/information
sources in your industry and link to them too,
e.g. if you are a member of an association.
Share your Blog posts to your Social Media pages, to create an instant link back. The more
popular your Blog and or Social page becomes, the stronger it will make the linked page.

6 - Keywords
Ensure that everything, (website,
blog, local listings, social media etc.)
features keywords most likely to
attract your target market/s.
Think about what your audience
would be most likely to type into
Google, to find the sorts of things
that you offer.
Add these keywords to both the Headings and Descriptions of every listing, page and post.
7 - Analytics
Install Google Analytics into your site or Blog
and regularly check which pages and posts
are gaining visitors and from what source.
You will soon learn what type of content
your audience is after and which platforms
they are finding you through.
Use this knowledge to fine tune how you
present your business and where to invest
marketing funds.
