DR. SUKANT MISRA Vice Provost for International Affairs Texas Tech University is committed to comprehensive and open-ended internationalization. This is an ongoing commitment, endorsed by faculty, students, and staff, and championed by the leadership. TTU’s Office of International Affairs (OIA) is entrusted with advancing the global reputation of the University and coordinating campus-wide internationalization activities. Through many initiatives, the OIA provides support services for students, staff, faculty, and the Lubbock community. From K-12 cultural programming and community outreach to international alumni relations, seed grants, partnerships, and immigration counseling, efforts to diversify and comprehensively internationalize the campus have gained momentum. Over the past 5 years, evidence of this progress has been demonstrated through an increase in the number of international undergraduate students and international graduate students (80% and 18% respectively). In addition, the OIA assisted TTU faculty and staff in competing for over $50 million in extramural funds and now works with international alumni who are eager to advance our institutional goals. In 2016-2017, faculty-led study abroad programs increased 48% with approximately 1,000 students and 100 faculty members participating. Expanding its global footprint, TTU has an international center in Sevilla, Spain and a new campus in San José Costa Rica. In its 17th year, our Study Abroad Center in Sevilla, Spain has now served over 3,500 students and TTU is on schedule to open its first degree-granting campus in San José, Costa Rica in the fall of 2018. Outreach to the community is a strategic priority for the university and the OIA. Since 2012, the number of events and community members served through these outreach services have more than doubled. In 2016, our K-12 Global Education Outreach unit was awarded the prestigious NAFSA Paul Simon Spotlight award for excellence in international education. We remain committed to “Bear Our Banners Far and Wide” by supporting the TTU community to become more globally engaged and preparing our students to be ethical leaders in a diverse and globally competitive workforce. International Enrollment Development and Outreach (IEDO) Division Facilitates international undergraduate admissions, recruiting, sponsored students, K-12 Global Education Outreach services, OIA operations, and ICC facility rental International Research and Development (IRD) Division Facilitates the development of multi-investigator, multidisciplinary international research and development programs, International Center for Arid and Semiarid Land Studies (ICASALS) International Grants Administration and Partnerships (IGAP) Division Facilitates international research and development grant opportunities, partnership agreements, and export control International Relations Facilitates relationships with current and past TTU international students and scholars, and community outreach Study Abroad Facilitates international education programming whereby college students can earn academic credit by taking classes, interning, conducting research, or completing a service project International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) Facilitates immigration counseling and compliance, and support services and activities for international students 2
