from my 1985 musical, The Treasure of Cathay, based on the 1921 novella Messer Marco
Polo by Donn Byrne (Public Domain in USA). It is a fictional story about Marco Polo and his
romance with the daughter of Kublai Khan. The high voice solo version is also available from
SMP Press.

term, especially because it fits beautifully with "Halloween". The piece centers around the use
of "pizzicato" for all members of the orchestra. The key introduces a harmonic minor scale
which can be experienced by playing the scale along with the rhythms from the actual piece.
Both scale and rhythm patterns are presented in all parts. Violin III and piano are also
included.

lullaby very suitable for the beginning string orchestra. The young musicians will enjoy
playing its lilting melody both in rehearsal as well as performance. Piano is included in the
score and can be used only for rehearsal or, if necessary as support, in performance as well.
The score and parts contain the scale used in the piece along with rhythms represented in the
piece as well. An excellent approach to working with this piece.
