Fast Lane Biker May 2018

Hello everybody and welcome to the MAY issue of Fast Lane Biker. I know you’re all thinking, “when is the weather going to finally break?” I went outside before and it was snowing for about five minutes. I was thinking why is it snowing on the last day of April? This is crazy. May first is supposed to be in the eighties, so lets hope warmer weather is here to stay. As we travel the Tri State area, there is a lot of events starting to happen and the shops and dealerships are getting busy again. This past winter was a long one and not what the motorcycle industry needed. So come on Summer!

Delaware Valley Chapter of A.B.A.T.E 37th Annual
Motorcycle Toy Run
November 5th 2017
Philadelphia Pennsylvania
story ridin’ and pics by Lutz
This is one of my yearly to do events. Nothing feels better than
helping the needy families and their children around the holidays.
The event in its 37th year draws thousands of motorcyclists to the
city of brotherly love. Once you arrive the event stages for a 10 mile
ride through Philadelphia which starts at Columbus Blvd. and ends
up at the Sugarhouse Casino. Once there, the toys are donated to the
United States Marines “Toys for Tots Program”. Also, when getting
to the casino there was food and drink available with a live band
to entertain the crowd. Not bad for a few thousand bikers trying to
make the holidays a little more cheerful for some children that could
use it… but isn’t that what it is all about... anyway!
Chrome shining in the full moon light
Twist the throttle and take to flight
Leave the hassles of life behind
Feel the wind and free your mind
Lean your iron into a curve
Keep her steady, do not swerve
Let the feeling sooth your soul
Shift the gears and let her roll
The bike you’re riding is a part of you
You are a man no one else can see through
You like the simpler things in life
You stand your ground, not afraid of strife
Old Biker:
Where are the boots now, they been here for 30 years,
they got that worn spot on the toe from shift'n gears,
and my ridin' jeans, that I have had for so long,
to go ridin' without them would be just wrong.
The t-shirt I like when I go to this place,
that has the writin' on it from that day at the race,
where we watched Springer slidin 'round in the dirt,
me, and Pappy, and some new young squirt.
There's the jacket, old and broke in like me,
but it fits so good, and it was almost free,
back in the day, when fashion wasn't the rule,
ya just bought what you could afford,
not trying to look cool.
The wallet in the pocket,
still holds what I need,
and there's a chain that keeps it,
from being freed,
by a lowlife thief,
who would steal while ya sleep,
in the old days, we didn't worry bout them creeps.
The only new on me, is this helmet I wear,
and since I don't like helmets, I don't really care,
that it aint real fancy, or painted fancy and bright,
the important part is the stickers that are right,
that keep the cops happy, with nothing to do,
but stop an old biker, like he was an outlaw crew.
Sometimes I miss them old days,
when the bike and me was young,
hanging with the club,
doing nothin’ but having fun,
but I wouldn't trade now,
for money or fame,
for what I got after all these years,
is simply the name,
Old Biker they say,
and that is fine, cause you see,
out on the road,
nothing matters but the bike and me.
Harley-Davidson of Staten Island was excited to partner with
Rolling Thunder Chapter 2 NY again this year for the Annual
Frankie “TOWKAR” Appice Memorial 3 BORO RUN, July 29th.
Incorporated in 1995, Rolling Thunder , Inc. is a class 501(c)(4) non-profit organization
with over 90 chartered chapters throughout the United States and members abroad.
While many members of Rolling Thunder are veterans and many ride motorcycles,
neither qualification is a prerequisite. Rolling Thunder members are old and young,
men and women, veterans and non-veterans. All are united in the cause to bring full
accountability for Prisoners Of War (POW) and Missing In Action (MIA) of all wars,
reminding the government, the media and the public by our watchwords:
“We Will Not Forget.”
The Rolling Thunder Story
In the fall of 1987, Vietnam veterans met to discuss their personal concerns about the
POW/MIAs from the Vietnam War. Having honorably served their country and having
taken an oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all
enemies...” and to “bear true faith and allegiance to same,” they were deeply troubled by
the abhorrent neglect of attention given to those who did not make it out with their lives
or their freedom.
MISSION STATEMENT
Rolling Thunder, Inc.’s major function is to publicize the POW-MIA issue. To educate the
public of the fact that many American prisoners of war were left behind after all past
wars. To help correct the past and to protect the future veterans from being left behind
should they become Prisoners Of War/Missing In Action. We are committed to helping
American veterans from all wars. Rolling Thunder, Inc. is a non-profit organization and
everyone donates his or her time because they believe in the POW/MIA issue.
These veterans discussed the more than 10,000 reported sightings of live Americans
living in dismal captivity. Intelligence reports of these sightings were generally ignored
by the government and mainstream press.
The First Rolling Thunder Demonstration
The Founders of Rolling Thunder were ordinary men who understood that they had a
right to have their voices heard and proceeded to lay down the plans for a gathering
in Washington, D.C. during the 1988 Memorial Day weekend. They reached out to
their families, fellow veterans and veteran’s advocates to unify and form a march and
demonstration in the nation’s Capital. Their arrival would be announced by the roar of
their motorcycles, a sound not unlike the 1965 bombing campaign against North Vietnam
dubbed Operation Rolling Thunder. Hence, they would call themselves “Rolling Thunder”
a title that would endure time and be trademarked in
