Community Projects
• The pool bathrooms will be complete before the pool opens this month.
• Some of the entrance flowers and shrubs were lost during the winter
freeze. They will be replaced and fertilized. • Damaged tile around the pool
is repaired, along with other pool maintenance. • The banana trees by the
children’s pool will be removed and replaced with concrete. • The playground
equipment and sidewalks have been power washed. We are getting bids for
more mulch to be added at swings and playground. • Mosquito trucks will
begin spraying our neighborhood once a week very soon.
Keep House Numbers Visible!
Thank you to those who have gone outside and cleaned your bronze
street number plate on your home exterior. PLEASE make sure your
house number is visible from the street. You might need to lower the
shrubs that are blocking the visibility or polish/clean the plate. This is
very important because in the event an emergency vehicle needs to find
you and can’t, it might be critical in time lost.
CV Community Association Meetings
Join us on the second Monday of each month at 7 PM at the Pool Room
on West Road to learn about what is happening in our community. You

Copper Village Easter Egg Hunt
We had a great turn out of parents and children from toddlers to teens. We had delicious cookies and treats thanks to Marian Burke and her team of

Attention Residents
Grass Clippings
It has come to our attention that many residents are leaving their
grass clippings and shrub clippings out on the curb for days before the
assigned trash pickup. Our trash days are on Monday and Thursday.
Either change your scheduled yard mowing to coordinate with the trash
days OR remove the grass and tree trimmings to the back of your fence
or in your garage until the evening before trash pick-ups. It is a deed
violation to leave your grass clippings or tree branches out days early.
DON’T SWEEP OR BLOW GRASS CLIPPINGS INTO THE STREET GUTTERS.
It clogs our drainage system.
Trim Low Hanging Trees
The Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department is requesting homeowner
assistance in addressing the low hanging trees within the Copper
Village community. These low hanging branches or limbs are hampering
responses to calls for assistance. The branches and limbs are damaging
equipment and Homeowner’s trees. Routes to locations have to be
altered. Some locations are unable to have an alternate route, leaving no
recourse but to park the apparatus and walk to the location.
Several pieces of equipment are 13 feet tall and CFVFD is requesting that
homeowners trim the trees to have a 14 feet umbrella over the street.
The Department members have been instructed not to damage their
apparatus or the Homeowner’s trees by driving down streets that do not
have appropriate passage. The fire department does not wish to have
a citizen with a fire or medical emergency that delays them receiving
attention due to having to locate an alternate route or being forced to
walk to the emergency location.

There have been some residents who have expressed concern with trash
left out in the street after pick up or forgetting them all together. THE

Deed Restriction Information
1. Maintenance of fences: Pickets, rails or bars that are broken or peeling
paint, warped, bent, sagging or which have otherwise deteriorated must
be promptly repaired or replaced.
2. Landscape Lighting: Exterior landscape lights shall be permitted with
the Committee’s approval so long as the lighting is located within flower
beds, shrubs and/or trees and all of the wiring is buried. All landscape
lights must be white in color. The Board reserves the right to require the
removal or modification of lights which it reasonably determines to be
annoying to neighbors. (i.e. shining in neighbors windows; lights on all
night; too bright of wattage)
3. Birdhouses: Birdhouses shall be permitted without the approval of the
committee subject to: it must be installed in the rear of the lot only; no
birdhouse shall be larger than two feet in width, two feet in length and
ten feet in height; the birdhouse can’t be visible from the street in front of
the lot; the materials and colors must be harmonious with the home and
other improvements on the lot.
4. Garage Conversions: No conversions of any kind will be allowed.
Detached muti-story garages shall not be acceptable. No carports shall
be acceptable.
5. Window Coverings: All window coverings (i.e. drapes, blinds, shades,
etc) which are visible from the exterior of the residence must be a
neutral, earth-tone color which must also blend with the exterior color
of the home. “Temporary” coverings (i.e. sheets, blankets, towels, etc)
must be removed within 30 days of closing on the sale of the lot. Paper,
foil, cardboard or other “non-standard” window covering materials are
prohibited for temporary OR permanent installations.

CFISD administrators presented the 2018 summer school plans for
elementary, middle and high school during the regularly schedule Board
of Trustees meeting on Tuesday, March 5 th . Summer school will be held
from Monday to Thursday, with campuses closed on Fridays. The
following dates and locations were established high summer school:
Location: Cypress Ridge and Cypress Woods high schools
High School Original Credit
Session I: June 11-June 28, 2018
Session II: July 2-July 24, 2018 (July 4 th and 5 th are holidays)
Courses will be held from 7:30 AM to 3 PM, with lunch from 11:45 AM to
12:15 PM. Tuition for CFISD students is $210 for a half-credit course and
$420 for a full-credit course. Tuition for out-of-district students is $310 for
a half-credit course and $620 for a full-credit course.

Langham Creek Lobo Athlete Signs
To Play College Ice Hockey
Graduating LCHS Lobo Tyler McLeroy signed a National Letter of Intent
to play Ice Hockey with East Texas Baptist University (ETBU) on Saturday,
April 7 th at the Willowbrook Aerodrome as his family and friends looked
on. Tyler’s 11 year hockey career included playing travel hockey for the
past 8 years with the Houston Wild Hockey Club and Team Houston
Hitmen along with the past 4 years with the Fair Creek HS Varsity Team
(made up of CFISD students). Tyler also represented the State of Texas
at the 2010 National State Wars Inline Hockey Tournament. McLeroy’s
2017 High School team won the City of Houston Interscholastic Hockey
League (ISHL) Championship while being named his Junior and Senior
year to the All-City ISHL, First Team.
Tyler finished his 4-year Varsity career with a total of 58 assists, 101
total points and 10 game winning goals. In 2017-18 with the help of
his Fair Creek teammates, Tyler set the All Time 20 Year ISHL record for
most regular season assists by a defenseman with 25, and tied for 4 th
All-Time for most regular season points by a defensemen with 40.
Our local Lobo will now take his skills to the next level playing with
ETBU in Marshall, Texas. ETBU plays their home games in the 4,000 seat
Hirsch Coliseum in Shreveport, Louisiana and competes in the TCHC
(Texas Collegiate Hockey Conference) against Texas A&M, UT, North
Texas, Texas State, UTEP, Dallas Baptist & TCU. ETBU finished the 2017-
18 season with a record of 16-6 and will make a trip overseas in 2018 to
play several games against teams in Sweden.

The Board of Trustees approved a recommendation for 35 CFISD
campuses to be open for student transfers for the 2018-2019 school
year during its regularly scheduled meeting March 5 th , with students
transfer forms made available online and at the campuses beginning
April 2 nd .
The following campuses were approved for a limited number of
student transfers for the 2018-2019 school year:
High School
Bridgeland (grades 9-11), Cypress Park (grades 9-11), Cy-Fair, Cypress
Ranch, Cypress Springs and Langham Creek.
Middle School
Campbell, Goodson, Hamilton, Hopper, Kahla, Labay and Truitt.
Elementary School
Adam, Andre’, Danish, Duryea, Frazier, Gleason, Hairgrove, Hoover

Soccer Camp Series
Online registration is now open for the 2018 Canes Summer Soccer Camps!
The Canes Camp Series is comprised of two camps: Skills & Drills and
Fundamental Skills Camps. These camps are uniquely designed to cater
to your athletes level and provide him/her a challenging experience and
advance their knowledge of the game in the proper environment. Camps
are led by some of Texas finest coaching professionals. Our professional
Staff has extensive camp experience, hold Youth and National Coaching

Sports Quest Summer
Soccer Camps 2018
Celebrating 22 years! Online registration is now open for summer soccer
camps 2018! Sports Quest is a non-profit soccer training organization,
dedicated to sharing Biblical truth to reach, teach & encourage next
generation leaders through soccer. Sports Quest summer camps provide
a fun, safe and educational soccer environment for boys and girls aged
5-12 years. Each camper receives a free soccer ball, a free camp T-shirt
and other commemorative gifts and awards.
Along with technical and tactical soccer skills training, daily competitions
and biblically based life lessons, Sports Quest provides a camp experience

AHFC Royals
AHFC Royals will make their inaugural season this summer 2018 (May-
August). The Royals Premier Development League (PDL) and Women’s

Over the course of six months, our coaches will help you achieve your
personal best in a non-intimidating, fun and safe environment. We will
provide a weekly training schedule and opportunities for group training
throughout the week with our distance runs on Saturday morning at
Pope Elementary on Bridgeland Lake Parkway in Bridgeland. Registration
for our Winter Season is open and the programs officially began June 3 rd .

30 th Anniversary B. F. Adam Golf Classic at BlackHorse Golf Club.
Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital joins the Foundation as

for pediatric cancer research and institutions that care for these young
warriors depend greatly on money raised by nonprofits like The Laurel’s
Army Foundation.

Calling all kids! Join us for Messiah Lutheran Church’s Vacation Bible School - Shipwrecked - Rescued
by Jesus, during the week of June 11 th -15 th ! VBS is a weeklong interactive time for kids to grow in
their faith. Children ages 3 years-old (potty trained) to 5 th grade are invited to join us each day from 9
AM to Noon. Each day at Shipwrecked VBS, kids travel through field-tested rotations that reinforce
relevant Bible Points and immerse kids in new adventures. Every station is designed to reinforce the

Serving our community for over 30 years, we offer affordable summer
camps for children ages 3 years old (must be potty trained) through

Our 3-day Mini Camps are for Preschool age 3 - entering First grade.

Camp Cornerstone Is The Place To
Be This Summer for ages 2 through
completion of 4th grade!
Camp Cornerstone is a week-long camp sponsored by Cornerstone United
Methodist Church and is for children ages 2 through the completion of 4 th
grade. Children must be 2 by June 1, 2018. Camp hours are 9:30 AM-1
PM. There are 3 sessions throughout the summer and you are invited to
participate in any or all!
Session I: “Totally Texas” is June 18 th -22 nd , Session II: “Artistic Creations”
is July 16 th -20 th , Session III: “Fairy Tale Adventures” is August 6 th -10 th .
The cost per camp per child is $120. You may pay $60 now and the
remaining $60 on the first day of camp. Registration forms are online
or in the preschool office. To download a form from the Cornerstone
website, go to www.cornerstoneumc.org and click on “preschool.” You
will see a tab for Camp Cornerstone. You can print the form and have it
filled out before you arrive, saving yourself time!
Before each camp session begins, you will hear from your child’s teacher
so you can learn more about the camp and she will answer any questions
you may have about the week-long fun. Each day your child will bring a
backpack and a lunch as they enjoy each other and the special things
they will do during the week. We look forward to having your child at
camp this summer! It’s a great time for everyone and you don’t want to

Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary, held between 1 and 4 PM. A guided
nature walk will begin at 2 PM. No reservations required. Donations are

all volunteer organization dedicated to saving the lives of at-risk and

die on the streets from abuse, disease and suicide. According to recent

When foster children reach age 18, they are considered independent.
That’s difficult for kids who have been wards of the state, with necessities

to help prepare for independence: Preparation for Adult Living (PAL).
The year-long course culminates in an all-day workshop hosted by
the National Council for Jewish Women (NCJW). The course is held at
Junior Achievement’s BizTown, using computer kiosks sponsored by

MESA Outreach
MESA Outreach welcomes neighbors in need and is focused on helping
the children in our community by providing basic needs and programs
that will help to improve the quality of their future.
MESA-Outreach, Inc. (formerly Houston Northwest Community Center,
Inc.), a non-profit organization, was formed in late 2009 to help serve the
community in Northwest Houston. The Community Food Pantry began
operations in 2012 when one family attended the first food pantry night.

GARDENING TIPS FOR MAY
Warm weather means our gardens and landscapes are growing fast.
Here are some tasks to keep your landscape beautiful and productive:
Flowers: Time to plant summer blooming perennials and annuals including
plumbago, zinnias, angelonia, purslane, lobularia, sunflowers,
yellow bells, pride of Barbados, duranta and bat-faced cuphea.
Vegetables: May is a great time to plant, from seed or nursery plants,
okra, sweet potatoes, cucumbers, winter squash, pumpkins, basil,
peppers, lima beans, eggplant, garlic chives and Malabar greens. If you
don’t want to dedicate an area of your yard, consider planting here and
there in your flowerbeds. Edible landscaping is a popular new trend!
Lawns: Water 1/2 to 1” of irrigation per week. A rain gauge or straight
sided container (such as a tuna fish can) will help you know how long
to run your irrigation system to apply 1/2”.
Weeding: Hand pull or hoe weeds while they are still young or better
yet, maintain a 3” layer of mulch in all vegetable and flowerbeds to
deter weeds from getting a start.
Pruning: Remove spent blooms on spring and summer annuals to
promote new blooms.
Fertilizing: Fertilize flowerbeds and vegetable gardens w/slow release
organic fertilizer.
Water: Deep soakings between rain events is better than frequent
light sprinkling.
Birds: Spring migration continues until mid-May. Clean bird feeders!
Replace water in bird baths to avoid creating mosquito breeding spots.

Recipes
Garlic Shrimp Scampi
You could make this on National Shrimp Day May 10th!
INGREDIENTS:
1 (8 ounce) package angel hair pasta
1/2 cup butter
2 cloves garlic, sliced
1 1/2 pounds shrimp, peeled and deveined
1/3 cup white wine
3/4 cup dry bread crumbs
3 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
DIRECTIONS:
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add angel hair
pasta and return pot to boil. Cook until al dente. Drain well.
In a large saucepan, melt butter, saute garlic until tender,
remove garlic and discard. Add shrimp and cook until colored
pink. Stir in white wine. The bread crumbs are used as
thickening, so stir in a little at a time until desired thickness is
reached. Serve shrimp over angel hair pasta, sprinkled with
Parmesan cheese.

Fresh Fruit Cobbler
You could make this on National Eat What You Want Day May 11th!
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup sliced fresh peaches
3/4 cup peeled, cored and sliced apple
3/4 cup peeled, cored and sliced pear
1/2 cup blueberries
1/2 cup pitted and sliced cherries
1/2 cup pitted and sliced plums
1 egg
3/4 cup white sugar
1/4 cup milk
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons butter, melted
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 2 quart baking
dish. Arrange the peaches, apple, pear, blueberries, cherries and plums
in the prepared baking dish. In a medium bowl, beat egg, sugar and
milk. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking powder and salt; stir
into the egg mixture. Stir in vanilla and melted butter. Cover the fruit
with the batter mixture.
Bake 30 minutes in the preheated oven. Cobbler should be bubbly and
lightly browned. Serve warm.
