vets and nurses as possible to take the following
survey. There are 50 breeds to be assessed and each
breed should take approximately 45 seconds. So put

The Clinical Board are keen to build

Health and Safety
What is an accident?
When should a practice should report an incident or accident at work?
Accidents
As everyone should be aware, any accident that occurs at work MUST be logged in the accident book. I suggest that even
the smallest cat scratch even be put in there (as you don’t know how your body may react to it later on).
Near Misses
Although it is not mandatory, it is good practice to record non-reportable 'near-miss’ incidents. If workplace incidents
where no-one has actually been hurt or become ill where the consequences could have been serious for worker, by
reporting them it is possible to learn from such incidents so that workers are protected from any potential future harm,
using the old adage 'prevention is better than cure'. The most effective way is to just review the situation and see if any
improvements can be made.
Riddor Reporting
If any incident falls under the following category, the responsible person must notify the HSE and their BSM
within 10 days (15 days if over the 7 day incapacitation period):
- accidents resulting in the death of any person
- accidents resulting in specified injuries to workers
- non-fatal accidents requiring hospital treatment to non-workers and
- dangerous occurrences

Petplan Update Continued
Between April and June, you have the chance to double your Portfolio
Rewards credits. This is a great opportunity to give your practice
Portfolio Rewards account an extra boost so you can enjoy exchanging
your credits for team nights out, chocolates and treats for your hard
working team.
As usual, rewards credits are earned every time a full Petplan policy is
generated through your practice. To be eligible for double credits, all you
have to do is increase the free cover your practice issued against the
same month last year – even if it’s only by 1!
We will contact your practice with the amount of free cover you issued
during April, May and June in 2017 which will be your targets for each
month.
Your practice will receive a monthly statement by post in the usual way
and you can view the Portfolio Rewards catalogue and terms and
conditions on www.petplanvet.co.uk

Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) Update
As you may already aware, the regulations regarding insurance provision are changing. These changes have been brought in by the
EU Commission and are designed to provide greater protection to customers through a consistent approach to distributing insurance.
In order to be compliant with the new regulations, and to adhere to GDPR guidelines, Petplan will be rolling out changes from 16 th
May. The good news it, you will be able to continue issuing covernotes, but there will be changes to; when to issue, how to issue and
what you can say to clients about insurance.
