Brief
The varsity baseball team had a very
successful March and the start of SPC
play. The Knights began SPC against our
neighbor school in red, St John’s. The
offense for the Knights was hot, putting
up five runs in the first inning, and the
Knights’ pitching behind sophomore Tanner
Witt earned them a 10-1 victory over
the Mavericks.
With a SPC Championship rematch, the
Knights took on their rivals, the Kinkaid
Falcons. Behind the outstanding pitching
and offense of seniors Justin Fox and Jack
Grams respectively, the Knights earned
themselves a 5-4 win over the Falcons.
Next, the Knights took on John Copper
for the first place seed in SPC. Behind the
offense of Peter Geib, Tanner Witt, Colton
Rathjen, and Antonio Cruz, the Knights
earned an undefeated record in SPC play
for the month of March.
Heading to Dallas this
weekend for the SPC
tournament, the
girls varsity lacrosse
team is
looking back on a season
full of highlights under
head coach Jessica Adams.
The team, which placed fifth
in last year’s SPC rankings, hopes
to gain one of the top seeds at this year’s
tournament. Coach Adams, along with
assistant coach Emily White and senior
captains Anna St. Denis, Sophia Maldonado,
and Merrie Afseth, has led the team
to an impressive SPC record, despite the
setback of a personal injury at the start of
the season.
This month the girls had a notable win
against Houston Christian at home
on
April 12. With
an impressive
10-9 win in
overtime
against Memorial as well as a 15-1 sweep
of Friendswood already under their belt,
the team is looking optimistically toward
the SPC Tournament and is excited to play
long time SPC rivals in Dallas next week.
Additionally, girls lacrosse celebrated
their Senior Night this month, when they
paid tribute to the team’s four seniors -
St. Denis, Maldonado, Afseth, and Kylie
Jones, - after their win against GCGLA
storm on April 17.
EHS varsity softball has an outstanding
record of 27-1 and 2-0 in SPC play. The
team has had critical triumphs over top
public school teams all across the South.
Their recent victory over Kinkaid ended
with a dominating 10-0 score. They also
attended the Schulenberg Tournament and
came out undefeated.
Seniors Alexis Aboulafia, Sarah Venker,
Daryn Grams, Sarah Mouton, Isabelle
Ross, and Abby Corder have been working
tremendously on and off of the field.
TRACK
The track teams’ 2018 season had an
incredible start and they look to keep their
momentum rolling into SPC. In his new
role as head track coach, Coach Isaiah
Coleman has transitioned smoothly.
With exceptionally strong performances
in the Texas Relays and Victor Lopez
Classic, the teams have made their names
known across the state. Led by seniors
Omar Denmon and Kansas Watts, the
teams looks to bring home the gold next
week at SPC.
TENNIS
The varsity boys and girls tennis
teams are finishing up the last remaining
matches on their schedules before preparing
for SPC.
The girls have gone undefeated in their
season thus far, with a recent 3-2 win
against Emery Weiner and 5-3 against St.
Agnes.
The boys team redeemed itself after a
rough two loss start to the season, beating
St. Thomas 5-2 on April 3.
These teams, as well as the school, are
very hopeful and confident that they will
beat SPC rivals St. John’s and Houston
Christian in the weeks to come in order to
hold their seed in the conference.
GOLF
The Knights girls and boys golf teams
are having a stellar year so far and are
hungry for the SPC Championship.
The boys team, led by juniors Jack
Matthews and Jack Panus, had two recent
tournaments. On April 17 they traveled to
the Quail Valley Golf Club and on April
24 they participated in the Meadowbrook
Farms Golf Club Tournament.
Mary Hellen Kennedy and Margaret Runnels,
Knights lacrosse had many exciting
games to close out the season and demonstrated
true athleticism at SPC.
Senior leadership this season has been
very strong, with captains Harrison
Hobbs, Ford McCann, Marshall McCann,
and Noah Dahlberg leading the way. One
of the highlight victories of the season
was against Houston Christian on Senior
Night. Senior Night celebrates the seniors
on the
team and their
future
endeavors in
college.
There
were
also gift
cards to Chickfil-a,
Whataburger, and
Starbucks that were awarded to
attendees as prizes.
During the game, the boys played stellar
defense and brought home a 10-7 victory.
However, the season has been tougher
than most for the boys, as they had a close
loss against St. Thomas and a loss against
St. John’s. The team looks to strengthen
their offense by utilizing new methods for
next year.
On the defensive side, senior Charlie
Buckner and junior Holt Johnson have
been essential parts of the team as goalies
and have blocked many potential goals.
Before SPC, the boys had one final game
against Ridge Point that resulted in a 10-6
win. The SPC Tournament resulted in
three games for the Knights, the first being
against Epis-
copal School
of Dallas, which resulted in a heartbreaking
loss, 22-1. The boys then played
Greenhill and came up short, 13-5. However,
the boys finished the season strong
with a 16-6 victory over St. Stephen’s.
