VILLAGE ADMINISTRATOR’S corner I WOULD LIKE to extend my appreciation to those residents who contacted me about helping to coordinate the All Village Garage Sale. Nancy Kopp has been designated to coordinate the sale for this year. Several residents may be providing her assistance as necessary. An idea that was floated past me from a resident is that we move the All Village Garage Sale to alternating years. If you have strong feelings about that, please get back to me or to Nancy and share your thoughts. If you recall last year, there was a lot of traffic congestion which was much greater than years past. In review of the sale last year, some of that congestion is likely based on a MBCC swim event that also took place on that day and an article in the State Journal which lead up to our sale. We have selected a date for this year that does not contend with a swim meet and we are not anticipating any additional publicity, so hopefully we can return to a more “normal” garage sale. The police department will be providing additional staff to make sure traffic moves along the best that it can. We hope to see you all on June 16th for a peaceful and tranquil garage sale with buyers paying full price for all your great stuff! There is a water meter pit just outside of Fuller’s Woods that will require some maintenance. Also, there are several road patches on Lakewood Blvd. that will also be getting some renewal. Both will be minor projects with impact to local traffic for a minimal number of days. In April, the Public Service Commission held a public hearing on a water rate increase for the Village Water Utility. Several residents provided comments for that hearing. As discussed in previous newsletters, water costs continue to escalate. These costs are associated to both increases from Madison and improvements to the physical plant of the Village Utility. We will provide more information as these options develop. As summer approaches, remember that the Village tends to get a little busier. Watch for bicyclists and pedestrians as they move about the Village. We warn many bicyclists and pedestrians about their role in traffic safety and although those warnings often fall on deaf ears, we still encourage everyone to follow the expected rules of traffic law to provide safety for everyone. This time of year we also see more solicitors in the Village. Be cautious of those coming doorto-door peddling their wares. Always make sure what they are selling you’re really looking to buy. Don’t get pressured into making a quick purchase. The Village does issue a permit on Village letterhead for those who are required to get authorization before they go door-to-door. If someone comes to your door, ask to see their permit and they must present it. If they do not have one, you should suggest they contact the Village before you transact business with them.
