Summer semester open house event scheduled for June 2 SUBMITTED BY THE BRIDGE TEEN CENTER Each year, The Bridge Teen Center in Orland Park provides more than 350 different afterschool programs plus weekly Friday night entertainment events free of charge for thousands of local teens. This coming summer, Tinley Park’s own Bettenhausen Auto will be part of the nonprofit organization’s impressive lineup of programs. Bettenhausen’s team will teach students some basic summer auto maintenance, including recharging the A/C and changing the oil. Bettenhausen employees have been leading programs at The Bridge Teen Center for each of the last six years. To help kick-off the busy Summer semester, The Bridge Teen Center will host a New Student Orientation and Community Open House event on Saturday, June 2 to welcome new students and celebrate the organization’s 8th anniversary. The event is open to the public and is designed to introduce new students and families to The Bridge’s nationally-recognized free programs and events. The new student orientation begins promptly at 10 a.m. (concluding at 11 a.m.) for incoming students and families wanting to learn more about The Bridge Teen Center. Students and parents/guardians will have the chance to tour the facility, fill out a free student membership application and receive their photo ID cards. This orientation is open to families of any 7th-12th grade student. This includes graduating 6th graders who will be entering 7th grade in the fall. The Open House portion of the event begins at 11 a.m. and will conclude at 1 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to take a tour of the facility, meet staff and volunteers, get a behind the scenes tour of The Bridge Thrift Store, and enjoy free food that will be provided by long-term Bridge supporters Legendary Baking and Trader Joe’s. Guests will also get to check out the newest addition to the space, the expanded Art Studio. This is a rare opportunity for anyone from the community to check out the facility, which is normally not possible due to student safety restrictions. Attendees will also get an exclusive “sneak preview” of the free programs that will be offered in the Summer Program Magazine. This summer alone, more than 100 free programs will be offered for students – plus weekly Friday night entertainment events that feature live music, themed nights and free food from local restaurants. Summers are historically the busiest time of year for The Bridge, with an average of 250-300 students per week and at least 300 brand new students expected to become members. “We are honored to have the opportunity to invite the entire community in to ‘meet’ The Bridge Teen Center,” said founder Priscilla Steinmetz, “We are especially excited about this event each year because it means we’ll see hundreds of new students become members. It never gets old to witness students discovering The Bridge for the first time by participating in our programs and events. The excitement new students and parents bring to the Open House is truly infectious - and in many cases, it’s truly the genesis of what will become a huge influence in their lives.” The Bridge Teen Center is a nationally-recognized nonprofit community center that was designed around the needs and interests of teens in the suburbs. The Bridge provides free holistically-designed afterschool programming and a safe environment for Friday night entertainment. Monthly programs that help parents navigate through the teenage years are also offered. To date, over 6,100+ unique students from 128 different communities have been served by The Bridge. The Bridge is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, and is funded by individuals, businesses, and foundations in the community.
