The two-day, juried fine art show, located in the historic Lake Forest Market Square, attracts more than 20,000 attendees, is free to the public and celebrates the individual artisan. This year, the event will be held from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday-Monday, Sept. 3-4. Last year, nearly 400 national and international artists applied to participate. The selected 180 exhibitors work in a variety of disciplines, including ceramics, digital art, drawing/pastels, fiber, glass, graphics/printmaking, jewelry, metal, mixed media, painting, photography, sculpture and wood. Featured specialty booths will include the entrepreneurial Young Artists area with artisanal crafts, the Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Artslink tent highlighting more than 20 community arts nonprofits, live music at the Lake Forest Train Station, and the Information Tent, which details Deer Path Art League programming. For more than 64 years, the nonprofit Deer Path Art League has been dedicated to the creation and appreciation of art through a variety of classes and summer art camps at Gorton Community Center, exhibiting the Emerging Artist Exhibit featuring 13 area pre-kindergarten through grade 12 schools, and the awarding of a scholarship at Lake Forest High School. Hosting the Art Fair helps to fulfill the Art League mission to “spark, nurture and enhance creativity as well as raise community awareness and appreciation of the arts,” a mission which is as true today as it was in 1954. Reiki is a Japanese hands-on healing technique that promotes overall health and well-being by restoring balance to the body’s energy system at physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels. “Reiki is one of the fastest growing complementary healing techniques,” she said. “It is widely practiced in homes, clinics, hospitals, nursing homes and spas throughout the world.” Clinical studies have shown that reiki can relax the body, relieve pain, improve sleep, clear toxins and boost the immune system. Reiki benefits the healthy and those with illness and is valuable for all ages. It is widely used for stress management and relaxation. For people with chronic illness, regular treatments will help manage symptoms and enhance conventional treatment. Moretta works with her clients to customize each reiki session based on their specific needs because of her passion for helping others. Moretta is a reiki master in the Usui/Tibetian, Ascension and Reiju systems of healing, among other modalities. She holds certification with the International Association of Reiki Professionals and the International Center for Reiki Training. As the founder and coordinator of North Shore Reiki and Energy Healers, she has created a local community for both experienced energy healers and those interested in experiencing and learning about the benefits of reiki energy work. Moretta is also a reiki master teacher, offering certification classes for those wanting to enhance and empower their lives with this harmonizing energy. “Reiki’s gentle and nurturing energy is an ancient technique that is the wave of the future,” she said. “For those looking for a more holistic approach to health and wellness, the opportunities are endless.” Moretta discovered energy healing through her own need for healing. After leading a successful corporate management position while raising two young daughters, she suddenly found herself in need of medical help. The stress and demands of a fastpaced career and family life had taken its toll. She was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition similar to lupus that demanded she immediately pay more attention to herself. Doctors offered a host of pharmaceuticals, but she knew the key was in making life changes and embracing holistic mind and body wellness techniques to heal herself. “I began practicing yoga and meditation,” Moretta said. “Later, I received my first reiki session, and although initially skeptical, I immediately became a believer and an outspoken advocate of this transformative healing art.” Having experienced the profound healing that she did, her passion to share it with as many people as possible was ignited. Moretta left her corporate career and began studying different modalities of energy healing, advancing to master teacher with reiki as her chosen specialty.
