People and Culture Strategy
Introduction
As Head of People and Business Change I
want Newport City Council to be the best
employer it can be for the people that
choose to work here. Having a successful
and aspirational workforce means that
we can deliver services of the highest
quality for the people of Newport and
ensure we deliver our organisational vision
by Improving People’s Lives. It is vitally
important, therefore, that we promote
our ambition to support and develop
the workforce during the lifetime of the
Corporate Plan. The Council intends to do
this through the creation of the People and
Culture Strategy.
The Strategy outlines five key themes
that I believe will help create an improved
working culture for our people. I want
to make sure that our new starters see
Newport as somewhere to have a happy
and successful career, and that our loyal
staff who have been here for many years
continue to feel valued in their profession
and that their ongoing contribution is
recognised and celebrated.
Through the five themes we aspire to
develop the workforce, provide a safe and
healthy working environment, recognise
excellent performance, meaningfully
engage with the views of colleagues and
better understand what sort of workforce
we need for the future.
