Glencoe Park Board
Classroom, staff expansion OK’d for Children’s Circle

Beginning this September,
the Children’s Circle
at Glencoe Park District
will undergo expansion.
The expansion project
was approved at the Glencoe
Park District’s regular
monthly board meeting
on Tuesday, May 15, and
comes with a $335,650
price tag.
This approved action
item includes the addition
of two Children’s
Circle classrooms and
three full-time employees.
There were no questions
or discussion regarding
the project at the
meeting.
The three employees
will be hired following
parent concerns of
teacher turnover, according
to a report in the
meeting’s agenda packet.
The report, Children’s
Circle Growth Plan, was
written by Bobby Collins,
Naomi Garvett and
Jess Stockl.
“This will allow the
students to have a class
more tailored to their developmental
needs and
give the teachers the opportunity
to structure the
classrooms in appropriate
ways for the child,” Erin
Maassen, superintendent
of marketing and communications,
told The Glencoe
Anchor.
Currently, the Early
Childhood Program supervisor
is spending more
than 50 percent of their
working hours in a classroom,

includes yearly adjustments
to the non-resident
rate. This is to reach a
goal where non-resident
rates are 25 percent higher
than resident rates.
According to the agenda
packet, all four current
Children’s Circle classroom
are at capacity. The
children range from six
weeks to 5 years old. The
program is open all day
from 7 a.m.-6:30 p.m. for
12 months.
Since more families are
seeking full-day care, the
packet stated, there is a
“significant” Children’s
Circle waitlist.
“The waiting list is at
40-something kids, so
(we’re) really hoping to
accommodate all the families
that are looking for
full-day care in the area
with the change, and still
offer excellent preschool
with the quality that
they’ve come to expect
from the Glencoe Park
District,” Maassen said.
New board positions
At the meeting, the
Glencoe Park District
board commissioners
changed roles.
They voted a new
president and vice president.
Commissioner Lisa
Brooks was elected president,
and commissioner
Stefanie Boron was elected
vice president.
Brooks appointed commissioner
Dudley Onderdonk
treasurer.

which is Sunday, June 18.
The author of the winning

prize from a local business
to share with his or
her dad.
The deadline for entries
is noon Friday, June
8, giving residents two
weeks to submit a photo.
All ages are encouraged
to enter the contest, but
dads must reside in the
Village of Glencoe.
Entries must include the
father and author’s first
and last name, as well as
a phone number for the
author.
