This Mosquito Season
Protect yourself. Protect your family.
Winnetka Music Festival
returns for round two
The Winnetka Music Festival wowed
Chicago’s summer music scene in last
year’s debut, and this year for Father’s
Day weekend, it’s back — bigger and
better.
This premiere emerging artist showcase
features 27 of the top indie acts from
across the globe that will
perform across five stages
throughout Winnetka. These
artists, coupled with an array
of street buskers, will bring
new music around every corner
to the fans.
Adjacent to Metra’s Winnetka
station, it’s fun and family
friendly. But, the best part
may be the free admission.
The Winnetka Music Festival
opens June 15 with a
concert featuring four bands ranging from
country and rock to EDM, headlined by A
Thousand Horses.
Throughout the day and into the night
on June 16, the BMO Harris, Fields Auto
Group and the Chicago Cubs stages, as
well as the Hudson Company family
stage and the Lululemon/Spynergy chapel
stage, will host an ongoing lineup,
exclusively curated by music industry
tastemaker Val Haller, Winnetka resident
and CEO/founder of Valslist. A partial
main stage roster includes Walker
County, ASHE, Win + Woo, Andrew
Belle, COBI, and the Seratones. Hot off
of her highly acclaimed Storm Tour, ZZ
Ward will wrap up the festival with a
must-see finale performance.
The Winnetka Music Festival’s new
layout will include enhancements, such as
18 additional food trucks and food courts,
merchandise tables, more craft beer and
wine options, and an additional
main stage in the heart
of Winnetka. There will also
be engaging crafts and activities
for kids between sets.
For those who want a VIP
experience, a limited number
of tickets are being sold
for the Jim Beam Lounge,
which provides a haven from
the crowds, direct access and
premium seating for viewing
the headliners on the Chicago
Cubs Stage.
The Winnetka Music Festival is easily
accessible via the CTA, Metra and Green
Bay Trail. Bike stations are also available.
The Winnetka Music Festival is a true
community effort. Volunteers and sponsors
are vital to its success. The festival
is created by the Village of Winnetka,
Valslist, the Winnetka-Northfield Chamber
of Commerce and the Winnetka Park
District.
In Lake County, warmer
temperatures mean more
outdoor fun — but also
more ticks and mosquitoes.
The Lake County Health
Department and Community
Health Center reminds
you to “fight the bite” to
protect yourself and your
family from vector-borne
diseases.
Ticks live in and near
wooded areas, tall grass
and brush. They can transmit
diseases like Lyme
disease when they bite humans
or animals.
Take these precautions
to avoid tick bites:
• Avoid wooded and
brushy areas with high
grass and leaf litter.
Walk in the center of
trails so plants do not
brush against you.
• Wear long sleeves, pants
and closed-toe shoes
when outdoors to cover
your skin.
• Use an insect repellent
containing DEET, picaridin
or IR3535 when
outdoors. Use products
that contain permethrin
on clothing. Follow
product directions carefully.
• Check yourself, your
children and pets, and
outdoor gear often for
ticks.
• Reduce tick habitats
around your home by
clearing leaf litter, mowing
grass, cutting back
weeds and keeping the
ground clean under bird
feeders.
If you are bitten by a
tick, promptly and properly
remove it:
• Using fine-tipped tweezers,
grasp the tick near
the skin and pull upward
with slow, even pressure.
Do not twist or
jerk.
• Do not burn the tick or
smother it with oils or
petroleum jelly, as this
may cause the tick to
spit up infected saliva
into your skin.
• Once the tick is removed,
disinfect the bite area
and wash hands with
soap and water.
Make a note of the date
you were bitten in case you
need medical care later.
As the weather gets hotter,
the mosquitoes known
to carry West Nile virus
become more prevalent
in Lake County. To help
prevent mosquitoes from
breeding around your
home and business and
to protect yourself from
bites, follow the 4 D’s of
Defense:
• Drain: Drain standing
water from items around
your home, yard, and
business.
• Defend: Use an insect
repellent containing
DEET, picaridin, or
IR3535 when outdoors.
Follow product directions
carefully.
• Dawn and Dusk: Protect
yourself all day and
night, and wear repellent
outdoors during these
prime times for mosquito
activity.
• Dress: Wear long sleeves,
pants and closed-toe
shoes when outdoors to
cover your skin.
Anyone who experiences
a rash, fatigue, aches,
fever or any unexplained
illness following a tick or
mosquito bite should consult
a health care provider.
If left untreated, some
vector-borne diseases can
cause serious illnesses and
may be fatal.
American Home Maintenance
Service & Repairs, LLC.
Another 5 Star Rating
Because of Ethon’s experience, his company has helped us solve some
very technical issues in the home and at my office, where others have been
unsuccessful. He has a method that really educated us as well as consciously kept
us aware of our financial obligation as we walked the problems and discussed the
issues. I new what was to be expected and when it was to be paid for. Ethon has
put together a very efficient and cost effective way of doing business. We Highly
recommend American Home Maintenance Service & Repairs, LLC.
