HIGHLIGHTS 2006 Results Michelin X One XDN 2 Grip tire was the very first application of "Michelin Durable Technologies". The new offering is designed for truck power axles. By enabling the replacement of dual tires by a single one, Michelin X One XDN 2 Grip tires substantially improve fuel efficiency and payload. They are available in the 495/45 R 22.5 dimension. The tire's revolutionary tread pattern achieved through "Michelin Durable Technologies" delivers top mileage and excellent grip in any weather. In September 2006, five new "Michelin Durable Technologies" applications were showcased at the Hanover (Germany) International Motorshow (IAA): Michelin Renews International Contract with Volvo Group Europe: Michelin Euro Assist Goes Further - Michelin X One MaxiTrailer, specifically designed for trailers - Michelin X Energy 315/60 R 22.5 XF (7.5 tonnes), the first "Michelin Durable Technologies" steer axle application in the Energy range - Michelin X Coach, designed for bus power axles for use all year-round - Michelin X InCity for enhanced safety and productivity of urban transportation - Michelin Remix XDN 2 Grip following the introduction of the Michelin Remix retread offering for Michelin Durable Technology tire generations. On January 26, 2007, Michelin renewed a long-term global contract with the Volvo Group. The initial global contract was signed in December 2003. Under the new contract, Michelin will offer truck tires as original equipment for vehicles assembled by Volvo in Europe, North America and South America under the tradenames Volvo Trucks, Volvo Buses, Renault Trucks and Mack Trucks. Volvo's customers within the main long-haul and other truck ranges will be offered tires that benefit from Michelin Durable Technologies, making them safer and more cost effective for trucking companies. Michelin Euro Assist now delivers breakdown services within 2 hours of a truck driver's call for help. Michelin A2 Energy rises to the fuel efficiency challenge. About 28.89 liters of fuel saved with Michelin A2 Energy truck tires over a 777-mile journey: this was the winning answer of the "riddle" competition organized by Michelin. Two Hanover-bound identical trucks started from Clermont-Ferrand (France) on September 25 to arrive on the following day. They had the same amount of fuel, the same load and were limited to 90km/h. Their only distinction was their tire fitments: one vehicle was fitted with Michelin E2+ and the other with Michelin A2 Energy low rolling resistance tires. Half-way down the road, the tires were switched between the two vehicles. Using the fuel flow meters installed on both trucks, the testers observed a 28.89-liter difference between the two tire types. The winner of the challenge received EUR 31,000 worth of fuel, the equivalent of a 40-ton truck's average annual fuel consumption. Ireland: Michelin to Fit 1,450 Buses Michelin concluded a major contract with Translink. Under the contract, Michelin will supply and maintain tires for the entire Ulsterbus fleet and that of its Northern Irish subsidiary, Metro. They own a total of 1,450 buses serving most of the province's regular lines. The 3-year contract, based on a cost per mile arrangement can be extended by a further 2 years. United Kingdom: Go-Ahead Awards Michelin an Important Contract Michelin signed a contract with London Central, a division of the Go-Ahead group which operates some 600 buses in the center and the South-East of London. London Central opted for a three-year contract based on mileage, along the same lines as Michelin's contract with London General, another division of Go-Ahead which owns a fleet of 700 vehicles serving the center and South-West of London. United States: Three-year Contract between Michelin and Petro:Lube Under the agreement, Petro:Lube will sell BFGoodrich Truck tires and Michelin Retread Technologies retreads as well as Michelin tires in its service centers around the United States. By the end of 2006, Petro:Lube is set to distribute these products in 65 shops and plans to open 5 more every year. Italy: LeasinGomme Tire Hire-purchase Program LeasinGomme, jointly developed by Michelin and financial partner Banca Italease, meets a dual need on the part of long haul fleets: achieve greater control over their tire expenditures and spread out payments over a longer term. LeasinGomme proposes a hire-purchase contract for the full amount of the tire purchase providing for up to 18 monthly installments. The program is being tested in Italy, where 107 " Michelin Quality Certified " specialist retailers have already been trained by Michelin and Italease to market the new service. Europe and Turkey: Recamic Expands its Offering 2006 Results Recamic expands its "On/Off Road" and "Long Distance" offering. The new XDY 3 E range targets hauling firms operating in a mixed environment. Tires in this range are designed for drive axles of vehicles running more than 90% of the time on regional roads and less than 10% off-road. The new 385/55 R 22.5 dimension of Recamic XTA2 Energy is specifically suited for trailer or semi-trailer axles and for " Long Distance " use. The new dimension completes the Recamic A2 Energy family, featuring some 20% longevity gains.
