Technical Information Uses: Cut flower, pots, large landscape plantings Garden Height: 24-30" (60-70 cm) Garden Width: 18-20" (45-50 cm) Life Cycle: Annual Germination: Stage 1 (7-10 days) Cover: Provide a light covering of vermiculite. Light: Light is not required for germination. Temperature: Maintain temperatures of 68-72 °F (20-22 °C). Relative humidity levels: Levels of 90-95 % are optimal. Moisture: Keep media moist but not wet. Best germination occurs under cool and dry conditions. Media: pH: Maintain media pH of 5.5-5.8 and EC levels of 0.5. Plug Culture: Stage 2 (5-7 days): Maintain temperatures of 68-72 °F (20-22 °C). Keep moisture levels low. Do not fertilize. Maintain pH levels of 5.5-6.0 and EC levels < 0.7. Stage 3 (10-14 days): Gradually reduce temperatures to 65-68 °F (18-20 °C). Begin fertilizing at 100-150 ppm nitrogen in a calcium nitrate formulation. Maintain pH levels of 5.5-6.0 and EC levels < 0.7. Keep media moderately dry. Stage 4 (3-5 days): Maintain temperatures to 62-65 °F (16-18 °C). Apply 100-150 ppm nitrogen. Maintain pH levels of 5.5-5.8 and EC levels < 0.7. Keep plugs actively growing to avoid premature flower initiation. Growing on: Transplant plugs after 3-4 weeks. Maintain temperatures of 60-65 °F (15-18 °C). Lower temperatures delay flowering. Fertilize at 200 ppm nitrogen in a calcium nitrate formulation. This will improve stem strength. For cut flower production, thin seedlings or plant plugs at 8-10" (20-25 cm) in rows or 9-12" (23-30 cm) x 12" (30 cm) spacing in beds. Crop time: 288 Plugs: 3-4 weeks Flowering 4" (10 cm) pots: 8-10 weeks Cultural hints: Flowers initiate faster under short days. Flower quality improves as light levels, temperature and day length increase. Insufficient boron levels can cause flower bud abortion and reduced branching.
