SKY
OTIS
Since giving rise to the elevator industry more
than 150 years ago, Otis has been at the
forefront of elevator technology.
Through the years, Otis’ team of professional
engineers and designers initiated nearly every
major advance and breakthrough in the industry.
Being the latest in a long line of reliable
products, the SKY System is built on
the concept of excellence in safety and
performance. With the new permanent magnet
(PM) gearless machine and the latest generation
of Otis intelligent microprocessor controllers,
the SKY System simplifies maintenance
procedures and reduces energy consumption.
High in operation performance and superior in
ride quality, the SKY System is the ideal solution
for a wide range of commercial and residential
buildings.
Features:
1 Permanent Magnet (PM) Gearless Machine
2 Controller and Drive
3 Governor
4 Door Control System
PM Gearless Machine
Permanent Magnet (PM) Gearless
Machine
The SKY System is one of the
first elevator systems to use a
permanent magnet gearless
machine, replacing the induction
motor with the traditional worm
gear arrangement.
The absence of the frictional
resistance of machine gears allows
the SKY System to economise on
energy consumption costs and
minimise overall environmental
impact. Passengers will not
experience the vibration and
noise generally associated with
geared machines. Additionally, the
reduction of moving parts in the
PM gearless machine results in
reduced mechanical wear and tear.
ACD Controller
Reliable Controller
Designed for groups of up to
four cars, the modular controller
incorporates a new generation of
printed circuit boards and software
to provide optimal response
times. The digital closed-loop
Variable Frequency (VF) drive, with
vector control technology, further
increases efficiency and accuracy,
and a digital speed encoder
ensures correct car speed and
positioning. The result is a system
of exceptional reliability.
When a hall button is pressed, Otis’
Relative System Response (RSR)
dispatcher instantaneously selects
the most eligible car in the elevator
group to answer the call. In a
split-second, the RSR dispatcher
analyses a set of parameters based
on response time estimates and
ideal group control practices. By
maximising system performance,
RSR enables passengers to benefit
from dramatically reduced waiting
times.
Speed – Time Profile
Optimised Speed Profile
As the elevator moves through
the hoistway, car locations are
monitored and precisely measured
to ensure that the elevator is
guided to the registered floor at its
optimum speed profile.
A closed loop control system
enables floor levelling within five
millimetres. This control mechanism
not only saves energy, but also
ensures a safe and comfortable
ride.
An Economical Solution
LAMBDA ® LC
Door Protection Device
Otis’ LAMBDA ® LC infrared curtain
door protection system casts
an invisible safety net of beams
across the elevator entrance. The
door protection device scans with
more than 70 infrared beams per
second, in a response time of less
than .1 second. If the system
detects an obstruction, the doors
swiftly and smoothly open to avoid
any contact.
Door Systems designed to meet varied passenger demands
Door Systems
Otis offers different door systems
to configure to the building’s
passenger demands.
The car and landing doors are
driven by a direct current (DC)
permanent magnet motor. A speed
encoder mounted on the operator
axis controls the doors’ opening
and closing positions. This allows
accurate and smooth operation,
enhancing the system’s safe
performance.
For higher traffic applications, a
closed-loop VF door operator
is available. It allows flexibility
in adjusting and setting door
operation, meeting a variety of
different operating profiles to suit
the building’s needs.
Standard Features
Emergency
Safety
Misuse Prevention
Service
Cut-off Hall Call Switch
Full Collective Operation
Load Non-stop
Separate Car and Hall Call Door
Times
When activated this feature disables all hall calls, but allows the normal operation of car
calls. When the car has no further demand, it parks with its doors opened at the last
landing served.
Registered car and hall calls are answered in the order in which the landings are reached.
The direction of travel is established by the first registered car command or hall call.
When a car is loaded to a predetermined percentage of capacity, weight-sensing devices
are activated, causing the car to bypass further hall calls.
The time that an elevator door remains open after a stop differs between hall and car
calls. Generally, more time is needed for a car to respond to hall calls.
Alarm Bell on Car When an alarm button is pressed, the buzzer on top of the car will be activated.
Car Position Indicator This feature displays car position, running direction, fire service and overload signals.
Hall and Car Direction Indicator The elevator running direction is displayed by LED segments.
Hall Position Indicator This feature includes a 16-segment LED position and direction indicator.
Extra Door Time This feature extends the length of time the doors remain open.
Emergency Car Light Unit
Door Time Protection
Motor Protection Device
Anti-Nuisance Car Call Protection
Car Call Cancellation
Nudging
Failure Auto Diagnosis
To ensure the minimum lighting requirement in a car, a rechargeable emergency supply
will automatically switch on if the normal lighting supply fails.
When the doors fail to open or close, the elevator will remove itself from group control,
retry to open or close its doors and sound the buzzer in the car. After three unsuccessful
attempts, the car will be shut down.
When the temperature of the motor exceeds a designated value, the elevator will shut
down automatically.
When the weight of passengers in the car is not more than 10% of rated car duty, and
four or more car calls are registered, all car calls are cancelled automatically.
When a car call button is incorrectly selected, it can be cancelled by pressing twice on
the same button.
If the doors are prevented from closing for a fixed period of time, a buzzer sounds and
the doors begin to close at a reduced speed.
The controller detects and records the elevator’s operation status automatically. If failure
occurs, this function will help minimise maintenance time.
Optional Features
Control
Communication
Comfort
Emergency
Advanced Door Opening
Attendant Service Operation
Independent Service
Parking and Shutdown Operation
Two-Four Cars Group Operation
Control
Car Chime
CCTV Cable
Door Hold Button
To improve performance time, the doors will begin opening as the car approaches a
landing.
By activating this switch located in the COP, the car can be manually operated,
independently from other cars in the group.
By activating this switch in the COP, the car will be disconnected from the group,
permitting it to respond to registered car calls independently.
When this feature is activated, the car will discontinue serving any hall or car calls. After
responding to the last car call, the car will go to a designated floor and shut down.
The elevator control system can handle two to four cars in a group. This feature
will dispatch cars to respond to calls according to traffic status and relevant service
requirements.
When the car arrives at a landing, the chime on top of the car will be activated as an
arrival tone.
A video cable can be provided to connect a CCTV camera in the car to the machine
room. (Video camera and monitoring device not supplied by Otis)
The elevator doors will remain open for a specified period of time if this button is
pressed.
Fan (Manual) A manual switch in the COP controls fan operation.
Second Car Operating Panel
Delayed Car Protection
Emergency Fireman Service
Top of Car Emergency Exit
A Second Car Operating Panel can be installed in the car for more convenient
passenger floor selection.
When the doors are prevented from closing or the car does not respond to assigned
hall calls, the delayed car will be removed from group operation and its doors will close.
This feature automatically places the car at the designated return landing with the doors
fully open; the fireman can then enter and manually operate the elevator.
The emergency car top exit can be manually opened from the outside and used for the
rescue and evacuation of passengers.
