council, Basel, Switzerland, September 24, 1885.<br />

"If any man thirst, let him come unto Me, and<br />

drink." "Whosoever drinketh of <strong>the</strong> water that I<br />

shall give him shall never thirst; but <strong>the</strong> water that I<br />

shall give him shall be in him a well of water<br />

springing up into everlasting life." (John 7:37;<br />

4:14)<br />

If, with <strong>the</strong>se promises be<strong>for</strong>e us, we choose to<br />

remain parched and wi<strong>the</strong>red <strong>for</strong> want of <strong>the</strong> water<br />

of life, it is our own fault. If we would come to<br />

Christ with <strong>the</strong> simplicity of a child coming to its<br />

earthly parents, and ask <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> things that He has<br />

promised, believing that we receive <strong>the</strong>m, we<br />

should have <strong>the</strong>m. If all of us had exercised <strong>the</strong><br />

faith we should we would have been blessed with<br />
