Cadets and parents should expect bus departures to Albuquerque Airport at 0600 (6 am) on Saturday, 17
November with return to NMMI from Albuquerque Airport on Sunday, 25 November at 1800 (6 pm) for
Thanksgiving, 0600 (6 am) on Friday, 21 December with return to NMMI from Albuquerque Airport on
Sunday, 13 January at 1800 (6 pm), and 0600 (6 am) on Thursday, 28 March with return to NMMI from
Albuquerque Airport on Sunday, 7 April at 1800 (6 pm) for Spring Break.
NMMI provides a shuttle to Roswell airport with departures from campus on the same days and times for
cadet departing from Roswell. NMMI does not provide a shuttle for returning cadets after breaks from
Roswell airport due to limited resources and multiple arrivals.
Sunshine Cab Company, (575) 910-3400, provides local transportation. The city of Roswell also operates
local city buses and cadets in uniform may ride the city buses for free.
We also expect that Galaxy Transportation, LLC - a local transportation company, will continue to
provide limited transportation options to cadets during holiday breaks. Contact Michael Peacock,
Operations Manager, at (575)637-8550 for more information.
LAUNDRY AND DRY CLEANING
Cadets will use our contracted laundry and dry cleaning service as part of their tuition and fees. The turnaround
time is 48 hours on regular business days. At this time NMMI is negotiating new contracts for
these services with several improvements expected. Cadets will be advised of any changes to laundry and
dry cleaning procedures during cadre and cadet recruit training in August. Limited washers and dryers
are available for cadets in the barracks as a convenience only, and are not intended to support normal
laundry requirements.

Memorandum For: Parents, Guardians and Cadets
Subject: Medical Care at NMMI
1 June 2012
The following information is provided concerning the Marshall Infirmary, daily operations and
medical requirements for cadets.
General Information:
The Marshall Infirmary is a 32 bed facility located on post, with a nurse on 24-hour duty. This allows
for hospitalization, isolation and treatment of simple diseases and minor injuries. In case of serious
illness, serious injury, or when surgery is required, arrangements for the necessary treatment will be
made by the Infirmary staff.
Sick Call is scheduled from 7:00 AM until 8:00 AM Monday through Friday. Cadets may still be
seen throughout the day if necessary. Cadets can be seen by the Physician’s Assistant twice a week
on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The Chief Medical Officer has standing
appointments in his office available Monday through Saturday and is on post on Wednesdays at
12:30 for follow up care. The NMMI Athletic Trainers work closely with the Infirmary staff and are
available at the infirmary Monday through Friday mornings until 8:30 AM.
NMMI provides a driver from 8:00 AM-5:00 PM Monday through Friday to transport cadets to and
from medical appointments. If a cadet needs to go somewhere after hours, a member of the
commandant staff will transport the cadet.
Diagnostic tests, blood tests or treatment which cannot be done at the infirmary are not included in
the tuition and are the responsibility of the cadet. There may be charges to the Cadets account for
certain supplies and or medications used at the Infirmary. These items are charged on an individual
basis for use.
Prescription medications are ordered through the contracted pharmacy by the infirmary staff.
Insurance information that is on file in the Cadets chart will be sent down with the medication order.
If there is a co-pay, it will be charged to the Cadets account.
The Infirmary does NOT process any insurance or medical claims. We may assist the cadet or the
different medical facilities in the process by providing the insurance that is in the medical chart. It is
imperative that the cadet has the updated insurance information at all times. Cadets with foreign
insurances will be responsible for submitting their own medical claims.
Medical Furloughs slips are available in the Infirmary for Cadets who need to go off post for longer
than the standard appointment. It is the Cadets responsibility to come obtain and fill out the proper
form. The Infirmary Staff will then verify the appointment so that the furlough may be processed.

Medical Requirements: The following are the medical requirement for New Mexico Military
Institute. All should be completed prior to matriculation. If you have any questions, please call
Marshall Infirmary at (575) 624-8235 after 1 August 2012.
Physical Exam: The physical must be legible and complete with dates and signatures. Incomplete
physicals will not be accepted. All physicals must be less than one year old.
Health and Consent Form (HCF): The HCF must be filled out completely. Every question should
have any of these insurances, it may be beneficial to you to purchase the schools insurance policy to
ensure that all medical bills are paid accordingly. Please note that foreign insurances and
Medicaid from other states are routinely denied insurances. Please check with your states
Medicaid program to see about receiving NM Medicaid. If you choose to use a foreign
insurance, you will be responsible for submitting your medical claims.
Immunizations: Please be aware of the required immunizations to attend NMMI. Requirements
vary from state to state and country to country. Please review the immunization schedule for the state
of New Mexico to ensure that you have all of the appropriate immunizations prior to matriculation.
Please provide a clear legible copy of your immunization record. Most states have electronic
NMMI HEALTH SERVICES FACT SHEET
Please read this letter carefully because it describes the health care available at New Mexico Military Institute.
General Information
The campus Marshall Infirmary has a capacity of 32 beds and the capability of treating cadets for minor illnesses and injuries. A nurse is
on duty 24 hours a day and is available during the school day and for sick call. Morning sick call begins at 7:00 a.m. Monday through
Friday.
Routine medical and dental care should be arranged by you during school breaks with your local provider. Minor illnesses are treated or
referrals are made to Roswell physicians if deemed necessary by the medical staff. There is no charge for an office call or for
confinement at the Infirmary, however, you will be billed for any lab tests or charges incurred from referrals. Prescribed drugs are
charged to the cadet account; copies are available for insurance purposes.
In instances of sudden serious illness or accident, cadets are transported to either Eastern New Mexico Medical Center or Lovelace
Regional Hospital by ambulance.
Accident Insurance
All cadets are covered by an accident policy for the school year June 27, 2012 through May 12, 2013, at the price of $240.00; Spring
Semester only, January 3, 2013 through May 12, 2013 is $112.00. You may purchase extended summer coverage for $78.00, covering
May13, 2013 through July 27, 2013. Applications are available at the Business Office.
Please note this is a supplemental accident policy, not a medical policy. It is not intended to cover all costs but provides excellent benefits
for a nominal cost. For accidents, where expenses for claims are more than $200.00 per accident, you are required to file any other
insurance first. If you do not have other medical coverage, NMMI insurance will be the primary coverage. REMEMBER, THIS IS FOR
ACCIDENTS ONLY. The accident policy does not pay benefits for sickness (see Sickness Insurance).
In order to enroll for this coverage, certain cadet information must be provided to the insurance carrier.
If you receive invoices for medical services which resulted from an accident, please forward them to the NMMI Infirmary immediately
and we will file an insurance claim. Claims must be submitted within 90 days of the accident date.
Sickness Insurance (See attached for new premium amounts starting Fall 2012)
NMMI has a cadet sickness policy available from June 27, 2012 through May 12, 2013; Spring Semester only, January 3, 2013 through
May 12, 2013. You may purchase extended summer coverage for $114.00 that will cover May12, 2013 through July 27, 2013.
Applications are available at the Business Office.
Again, it is not intended to cover all costs, but rather to supplement the family policy. For illness, where expenses for claims are more
than $200.00 per illness, you are required to file any other insurance first. If you do not have other medical coverage, NMMI insurance
will be the primary coverage.
PROOF OF MEDICAL INSURANCE IS REQUIRED FOR ALL CADETS. Proof of medical insurance must be provided to the
Business Office by August 31, 2012 for the Fall Semester. If not provided by this date, you will be charged $351.00 for NMMI Cadet
Sickness Insurance Plan. Spring Semester cadets without proof of insurance by January 31, 2013 will be charged $168.00.
In order to enroll for this coverage, certain cadet information must be provided to the insurance carrier.
Medication
Prescribed medications, regardless of origin, must be turned over to the NMMI Infirmary. Infirmary staff will be available at
matriculation to collect medications. All medications must be controlled and stored at the Infirmary. Misuse, abuse or unauthorized
possession of prescription or over-the-counter drugs may result in immediate suspension.
Charges for medications dispensed by Infirmary staff during the normal care of cadets will be charged to the Cadet Account.
Roswell Health Care Providers
Please respond promptly when invoiced by Roswell health care providers, as we do not want to jeopardize health care for our cadets.
Some of the local providers are requiring a substantial deposit from parents before NMMI cadets are examined. In non-emergency cases,
you will be notified to mail or wire funds for this purpose.
tailoring will be completed within three to five weeks.
The enclosed issue items list is provided for your information. Every effort is made to
obtain items that are of the highest possible quality at the least possible cost. Cadets will also
have opportunities to purchase items throughout the school year at their convenience, and
additional alterations can be made on most items for a nominal fee after initial issue.
COMMANDANT OF CADETS
DEAN OF STUDENTS
NEW MEXICO MILITARY INSTITUTE
101 West College Boulevard
Roswell, New Mexico 88201-5173
575-624-8400
Memorandum For: Cadets and Parents/Guardians
Subject: Policy #6 Storage, Handling and Distribution of Prescription Medications
1 June 2012
1. The purpose of this policy is to identify how prescription medications brought to campus
by cadets and those provided by New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) Infirmary are
handled and dispensed. During each Academic Year, the Infirmary staff is on duty 24
hours a day.
2. Routine medications brought to campus by cadets:
a. Medications that have been prescribed by a cadet’s personal physician, or at the
discretion of the Nurse Practitioner and the Health Services Administrator, must be
brought to the Infirmary and logged in. These medications include, but are not limited
to steroids, liquid antibiotics, muscle relaxers, nicotine patches, and any other
medications deemed to have a potential for misuse/abuse. Medications available overthe-counter,
such as vitamins, cough medicine, Tylenol, ibuprofen, etc., must also be
brought to the Infirmary and logged in. Misuse, abuse, or unauthorized possession
of prescription or over-the-counter drugs are a violation of the NMMI Drug
Policy, and could result in sanctions up to and including dismissal.
b. Notations about the medication, dosage, and prescriber are made by the Infirmary
staff. The cadet reads and signs a statement at the bottom of the Log-In form,
indicating that they understand how to take the medication that they will not give or
sell it to another person, and that misuse of the medication is grounds for disciplinary
action that could result in dismissal.
c. The Log-In form also states that the cadet understands that any medication prescribed
to them while attending school at NMMI from a provider other than the Nurse
Practitioner or the Medical Director must be logged in at the Infirmary and all of the
cadet’s questions have been answered. The cadet signs the form and receives a copy to
keep with the medication in his/her room. Medications not logged in and found in a
cadet room can result in disciplinary action up to and including dismissal.
d. The CMDT’s office is notified daily of any medications missed the previous day. The
CMDT’s staff will counsel the individual cadet who is out of compliance with his or
her medication regimen and follow up with the parent, cadet, and Infirmary staff.
Parents or guardians of High School cadets will be notified by Infirmary staff and
TLAs regarding non-compliance issues. Failure to take prescribed medications may
require an appearance before a medical review board, possibly resulting in suspension.

3. Narcotics:
a. All narcotic medicines are kept locked up in the Infirmary. The cadet is required to come
to the Infirmary to take them if he/she is not currently admitted. Besides the obvious
abuse potential, it is important for the nursing staff to be able to assess the pain level of
the cadet and ascertain whether or not the cadet needs to be further evaluated or if the
pain is being adequately treated by the current medication and dosage.
b. When the cadet is healed and no longer needs the narcotic, he/she is asked to come to the
Infirmary prior to a break in the semester or at semester end and take the medication
home, or the medication is destroyed by the pharmacist.
c. Narcotics are counted at every shift change and monitored very closely.
4. Mood-Altering Medications and Stimulants:
a. These medications are administered by licensed personnel only on a “watch-take” basis
because most of these medications are for ADHD and are strictly controlled by the DEA
and New Mexico Board of Pharmacy. Besides the potential for abuse, it is important for
the nursing staff to continually assess the cadet and bring to the attention of the prescriber
any problems or potential problems noted, such as weight loss, lethargy, or inadequate
effectiveness of the particular medication.
b. A list of cadets taking these types of medications will be made available by the Infirmary
staff to Troop Leadership Advisors and Academic Advisors, through the Commandant’s
Cadet Counselor.
c. The nursing staff also notifies the parents and Health Services Administrator if a cadet
has missed more than three doses consecutively. Many of the medications for depression
and anxiety cannot be stopped abruptly because of the potential for an adverse reaction.
5. Questions regarding this policy should be addressed through the Commandant’s chain of
command starting with the cadet’s Troop Leadership Advisor or directly to Ms. Serena
Skinner R.N., H.S.A at (575)624-8235.
representatives as well. The Board, through massive participation across the United
States by ALL Parent Club members, represents and supports NMMI cadets, their
families and the Institute.
fund-raising endeavors throughout the school year. We also receive annually,
donations by local merchants that contribute to our over-all ability to give something
• NMMI and Parent Club merchandise sales at matriculation, home coming, open
houses, 21-days, and family weekends;
• Silent Auction during the Parent Breakfast at Family Weekend, and;
• Special sales for holidays and other occasions throughout the year
The Parents Club utilizes all funds and contributions to provide events such as Ice
Cream Socials, Spring-Fling, Christmas, Halloween and Valentine celebrations and
functions for ALL cadets. Through the leadership of the Commandant, we also
provide funding for special programs, trips and activities for the corps Please feel free
to contact any of the Parent’s Club Board at any time via phone or email. We will be
happy to assist you in any way we can. We will be happy to answer questions,
We included this list for our families attending the famed “21-Day Celebration”…it was a big hit and applies to every
21-Day and 28-Day Celebration. We compiled this list from years of experience attending this function.
1. If at all possible, it is better to arrive the night before, get a good night’s rest and be refreshed for the full day of
events and time spent with your cadet
2. Wear comfortable shoes and clothes that you aren’t afraid to get a “muddy hug” in
3. Be sure camera and phone batteries are charged as it is difficult to find a place to charge, and you don’t want to
miss any good photo opportunities having to change batteries
4. Use the restroom before you cross the street to the challenge course. You won’t want to leave and miss anything,
and although there are bathrooms available, you have to walk a little distance to get to them.
5. Utilize a fanny pack, small backpack or the like to carry a couple of water bottles, your camera, chap stick, etc
6. You might want a small umbrella, depending on your tolerance for the sun and heat
7. Remember that although it is a fun day, full of excitement, your cadet will not be able fully “socialize” with you until
they are turned lose for off post liberty.
8. Take advantage of the opportunity to meet your cadet’s new RAT Buddies, find out a little about them, exchange
phone numbers, and parent’s contact information – you will really enjoy the networking and sharing that brings.
9. Take a RAT who has no family there with them along with you when you go off post, if you can – he will appreciate
it and it might be another family offering that kindness to your cadet in the future if you cannot make it to an event
or ceremony.
10. Plan on attending the ceremony in Hagerman Barracks (“The Box”) – their first time in Class A’s! Get plenty of
pictures! You will cherish them always!
11. Try to arrive by 6:50 am, so you can start with your cadet at Stapp Field on the West side of Main Street. If you are
not there by that time, try to park behind Hastings Field, nearest the Challenge Course on the East side of Main
Street. The cadets actually start on both sides of the road, but the absolute must see part of the Challenge Course.
12. Your troop can be located by their “guidon”. Everywhere they go, they go as a troop and the guidon on will typically
be leading the way. You are welcome to ask anyone for directions. We all know how badly you want to see your
cadet and need to know where your cadet’s troop is located. They should be eager to guide you in the right
direction.
From Cheryl:
The challenge course the cadets are going to be faced with is amazing! I encourage all of you to try and attend. Oh, and it
is ok to talk to your cadet, you can even hug them if you want. But remember, they are working as a unit and must stay
together as a troop, so be brief with your hellos as you can catch up later when the cadets get general permit. Keep in
mind they will not be allowed to spend the night with you.

This is the typical format of any schedule for events on post during the year. There are always hyperlinks provided
throughout a newsletter than make NMMI’s official website easily accessible and allow the reader to go directly to
the pertinent information related to those sections of the newsletter.
Example 21 Days - The First Milestone for Recruits At Training (RATs)
The end of the 21 Day period for the Recruits at Training (RATs) is an important milestone for cadets attending
NMMI. The end of the 21 Day period marks the day RATs are recognized for their hard work and receive their
first privileges. However, before they are given new privileges, they must complete the obstacle course and
fitness factory, demonstrating their improved physical readiness, confidence, team work and high motivation.
The morning events end with a Corps formation and acknowledgement of their accomplishment by the
Regimental Commander.
Saturday
