The most anticipated
summer event in downtown
Lockport is returning for its
46th year, but residents can
expect to see some changes
and additions to this year’s
Old Canal Days held Thursday,
June 14, to Sunday,
June 17.
Tens of thousands of people
come out to the festival
each year, with a chance to
experience and learn about
the history of Lockport, all
while having some fun.
“I hope it brings more
people to Lockport to learn
about our city rather than
just go out to the carnival
and listen to music,” Old
Canal Days event coordinator
Jodi Herman said.
The four-day event is to
have Native American exhibits
and vendors hosted by
the Midwest SOARRING
Foundation. There are also
to be historic reenactments
and building tours at Heritage
Village, located at 249
W. 2nd St. Attendees can
also explore a Lockport History
exhibit at Lincoln Landing,
and join in on a Lockport
Cemetery tour at 10:30
a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday
and Sunday. The tour is to
feature graves of those who
have had a significant impact
on the city, including the
I&M canal chief engineer,
the inventor of the first steel
plow, and military members
from every American war.
“I think that it’s starting
to show that Lockport has a
unique history and the importance
[of it], and is starting
to educate people on the
history of Lockport, rather
than just being a carnival
and main stage,” Herman
said. “So all of the cultural
