Tinley Park Board of Trustees
Village supporting efforts for business park incentives
Tinley businesses
applying for tax relief
Cody Mroczka, Editor
Two Tinley Park-based
businesses received support
in the form of resolutions for
their applications to Cook
County’s economic tax incentive
programs.
On May 5, the Board of
Trustees unanimously voted
to approve three ordinances
to express support for Class
6B real estate tax assessment
incentives which drop
commercial tax rates from
the normal 25-percent assessment
to 10 percent for
a period of 10 years. The
rates jump to 15 percent in
year 11 and 20 percent in
year 12.
Two corresponding ordinances
were in favor of Paul
Brown, on behalf of Two
Men and a Truck Moving
Company located at 7420
Duvon Drive in the Duvon
Industrial Drive business
Round It Up
Board of Trustees meeting:
• Cynthia Proffitt, a 21-year part-time employee in the
EMS 911 Communications Department, was promoted
to the full-time position of administrative assistant.
• A resolution approving an agreement lasting until
2021 between the Village and the Tinley Park Police
Department received unanimous approved.
• Mayor Jake Vandenberg said the Village would be
cutting meetings down to once-a-month during the
summer months.
• Village Manager David Neimeyer said $32,000 has
spent so far on consulting fees for the New Bremen TIF
District.
• The Village’s Marketing Department intends to role
out an Instagram feed in the coming weeks to promote
summer activities.
park and also within the designated
Mental Health Center
TIF District. Brown said
he was looking to combine
some operations and expand
at the Tinley Park property,
which is currently in its seventh
year of the 6B incentive
program. He said the business
expects to employ 60-
90 people.
The second business that
received support from the
Village was Hill Company
for Airy’s Inc. located at
7455 Duvon Drive, also
within the industrial park
and Mental Health District
TIF. The business is seeking
a 6B sustainable emergency
New Village commission
appointed
The Village of Tinley
Park’s appointed its
newest commission with
a unanimous vote of
approval by the Board on
June 6. The 2018-2019
Economic Commercial
Commission members
are:
Jay Walsh
Dennis Ready
Dino Sanfilippo
Robert Workman
Yaser Elkayyal
Richard Otsy
Mark Wendling
Diane Galante
Christine Obaggy
Jim Fuentes
Paul Spass
relief real estate tax assessment
under the same, aforementioned
conditions.
Trustee Cynthia Berg said
both items were discussed
and recommended for approval
at previous Economic
Commercial Commission
meeting.
“Thank you for investing
in Tinley Park,” Mayor Jake
Vandenberg said.
Fence variation approved
After receiving a 3-1 vote
on May 24 from the Zoning
Board of Appeals following a
public hearing, a request for
a zoning code variance was
approved by a vote of 4-1
for a first reading after some
debate. Petitioners Jennifer
and Gregory Roberts are
seeking a 1-foot variance to
construct a 5-foot-tall opendesign
fence with additional
posts extending up to 10 feet
into the required secondary
yard. Trustee Mike Glotz,
who voted in opposition,
said the property didn’t meet
the variance requirements
of a hardship and expressed
concern that other corner
lots would seek similar requests
if a precedent was
set. Gregory Roberts said he
collected 19 signatures from
neighbors who supported
his plans for the fencing. He
said the 5-foot height was
requested to match his direct
neighbors’s 5-foot fence and
believed that was the best
option for aesthetics and
property value. Trustee Michael
Pannitto said he was
fine with the request, because
it did not block drivers
site lines or neighbor’s
views. A second reading is
tentatively planned for the
June 19 meeting.
Chief, Trustee search
continues
The Village received 27
applications for its vacant
position of police chief. Assistant
Village Manager Pat
Carr said interviews would
likely begin in the next few
weeks. Mayor Jake Vandenberg
said he’s received “two
or three” resumes for the
vacant trustee position and
plans to begin reviewing applications
for a possible July
appointment.
Police Reports
Underage tobacco sting results in alleged sale to minors
A male and female employee
at two separate Tinley Park businesses
were cited ordinance violations
for allegedly selling tobacco
to minors on March 4, according
to Tinley Park Police Department
reports. Allan I. Mohammad, 24,
of Surrey Drive in Tinley Park,
and Ali Saeed, 22, of W. 95th
Street in Hickory Hills, received
the citations for reportedly conducting
sales that occurred at 6:11
p.m. at Tobacco Leaf and 5:50
p.m. at Alarabi Market, respectively.
According to the reports, a
TPPD officer was conducting a tobacco
detail with a “juvenile special
agent.” The juvenile reportedly
successfully purchased mini
cigarillos containing tobacco from
Tobacco Leaf and orange hookah
product containing tobacco from
Alarabi Market. The purchases
and receipts were placed in custody
and court dates were assigned.
March 4
• A Tinley Park automobile dealership
reported a possible theft
of a dealership plate on March 4.
According to a Tinley Park Police
Department report, an employee
with Apple Chevrolet on 159th
Street told police a front dealership
plate was missing from a
Chevy Tahoe located in the front
of the business. There was no
video footage available for review.
The plate was entered into
LEADS as missing/stolen and a
10-day retroactive search yielded
negative results, the report concluded.
• Tiffany N. Raber, 38, of Jean
Lane in Tinley Park, was arrested
on March 4 for alleged retail theft
and possession of drug paraphernalia/possession/sale/delivery.
According to a Tinley Park Police
Department report, an officer
was dispatched to Natural Healing
Centers on Oak Park Avenue
in reference to a retail theft. The
employee reportedly told the police
Raber had been placing various
items from the store into her
purse. The officer reportedly
uncovered a “white powder substance”
and various pills in additional
to products from the store
totaling $147. The suspected narcotics
were seized into evidence
and further charges may be pending
upon completion of the investigation.
