Description: Envirosense ® PDV Electrical Connections
Reference GSW Model Numbers: 6G50100NVC02 and 6G50100PVC02
This product notification serves to clarify the electrical connection requirements
for the Envirosense ® 6G50100NVC02 and 6G50100PVC02.
The manual (P/N 316312-000) does not specifically outline a procedure for the
electrical connection of these units. Included in this notification is a procedure
that is recommended.
NOTE: Where there is a procedure or practice applicable to the electrical
connections for the Envirosense ® PDV units documented subsequent to the
publication of this notification, this notification is superseded.

ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
In addition to the installation instructions found in this notification, the water
heater must be installed in accordance with all local and provincial codes or, in
absence of local and provincial codes, with the latest edition of the “Canadian
Electrical Code”.
The requirements of these documents must be carefully followed in all cases.
Authorities having jurisdiction shall be consulted before installations are made.
Important: Installation and service must be performed by a qualified service
technician.

Disconnect power before servicing.
Replace all parts and panels before
operating.
Failure to do so can result in death or
electrical shock.
When making the electrical connections, always make sure:
• The voltage and frequency correspond to that specified on the water
heater data plate on the front of the water heater.
• The electrical supply has the proper overload fuse or breaker protection.
• Wire sizes and connections comply with all applicable codes.
• Wiring is enclosed in approved conduit (if required by local codes).
• The water heater and electrical supply are properly grounded.

This water heater may be hard wired or have a proper, three-prong polarized
plug (with a maximum 12’ (365 cm) cord) installed and plugged directly into an
electrical socket – do not use an extension cord.
Note: Always reference the wiring diagram in the most current revision of the
product manual for the correct electrical connections.
If hard wiring the water heater:
1. Shut off the power at the electrical service box.
2. Loosen the screws securing the cover to the junction box.
3. Pull wire ends into the junction box.
4. Connect the electrical supply to the water heater in accordance with
local utility requirements and codes. Use only a dedicated electrical
circuit containing a properly sized fuse or circuit breaker. Maximum
overload protection should not exceed 15 amperes.
5. Place the wiring connections in the junction box and replace the cover.
6. Connect this circuit (directly from the electrical service box) to an
electrical disconnect switch.
7. Ground the water heater by connecting the electrical service ground
wire to the green ground wire (provided).

Note: The power supply to this water heater must be properly
polarized (120 Volts from the hot lead (black) to ground and 0 Volts
from the neutral lead (white) to ground), otherwise the unit will not
operate.
8. After making all electrical connections, completely fill the tank with
water and check all connections for leaks. Open the nearest hot water
faucet and let it run for 3 minutes to purge the water lines of air and
sediment and ensure complete filling of the tank. The electrical power
may then be turned on.
If installing a three-prong plug for the water heater:
1. Loosen the screws securing the cover to the junction box.
2. Pull wire ends into the junction box.
3. Insert the wiring for the three-prong plug into the junction box.

4. Wire the three-prong plug to the water heater wiring, ensuring the
proper polarity and grounding.
