Summer has officially
arrived.
Happy first day of
summer!
While schools have
been out for awhile now
and temperatures have
been scorching lately,
today marks the first official
day of summer.
I am not sure about
you, but summer has
always been my favorite.
The summer reminds me
of some of my fondest
memories as a child.
As a child, I enjoyed
my time off from school
combined on a unique,
firsthand storytelling venture
after Paul McCartney
spending the hot summer
days with my family
on our boat waterskiing.
While my parents now
live in Florida and my
brother lives in Iowa,
it doesn’t stop me from
spending my summers
still waterskiing.
Plus, as I get older, I
have realized a few other
things about summer.
Summer means the
start of construction on
the roads. Almost my
entire commute consists
of driving through a construction
zone.
Every day, I watch as
cars zoom through these
zones going well over the
construction-zone speed
limit.
While we all have
things to do and places
to go, remember that
construction zone speed
limits are there for a
reason.
It is important to
reduce speed and be on
came to town that earned
them third place for Best
Performing Arts Story.
Freelance photographer
Bob Klein earned honorable
mention for his Tinley Junction
photo of Mayor Jacob
Vandenberg celebrating his
win on election night.
The Orland Park Prairie
was awarded a Feature
Photo award for the
second straight year and
for the second straight
year the photo came from
Adam Jomant, who this
year was recognized for
a charming photo of two
Spider-mans facing off at
the local library.
Also a national champion,
again, is the Malibu
Surfide News, which won
its third top national prize
in the last two years. This
the lookout for workers
to help maintain a safe
working zone them as
they are trying to improve
our roads.
The next time you
are speeding through a
construction zone or are
sitting in construction
traffic frustrated, remember
someone’s loved one
is working on the road
in a dangerous environment.
If that was one of
your loved ones working
on the side of the road,
you would want people
to pay attention, get off
their phones and obey the
speed limit.
While we need to be
careful in construction
zones, it is also important
to pay attention to
pedestrians.
The warmer weather
also brings more people
to the streets. In the past
few weeks, I have noticed
more and more people out
and about in Lake Forest
During the summer,
there are more people out
and about than any other
time of the year, which is
why it is important to pay
attention.
While you are hurrying
to your next meeting
or running late to work,
remember to look out for
pedestrians.
In the hustle and bustle
of your life and continuing
on your daily routines
to pay extra attention for
who are out of school.
While the summer
brings warm weather and
fun activities, always remember
safety comes first.
