Natural wisdom
Lucy Parker is Co-Founder of Flow Tunbridge Wells – a holistic
wellbeing haven that offers yoga, osteopathy, sports massage,
therapies, workshops, courses and retreats
What one piece of seasonal wisdom
helps you in June? Taking a walk in the
local park or woods, or better still going
somewhere along the coast where I can
see a fantastically expansive horizon.
What self-care rituals do you never
skimp on? I have one for body and
one for mind. Daily, even if for just
five minutes, I create time to sit down,
breathe and connect back into my
meditation practice. Meditation gives
our minds some time-out and our
bodies a chance to reset and renew.
Scientists have recently discovered that
just five minutes, five times a week is
enough to create healthy and lasting
benefits on our brain.
The second is a skincare routine I’ve
used since my teens. I always apply a
serum, followed by an oil. I love Tropic
Super Greens Nutrient Boost Serum,
£42, which includes chlorophyll, kale
and maca roots, so you literally feel
like you’re putting the most delicious
green super juice onto your skin, which
in effect you are. You can get it at our
studio and via our website
What’s cooking in your kitchen this
month? I like to make my own Bircher
muesli, soaking oats and seeds in
vegan milk overnight and then adding
chopped nuts and strawberries in the
morning. Then it will be a garden pea
and fresh mint risotto for supper, maybe
with some feta and black pepper added
right at the end. My other top tip is to
get a sage plant. Sage grows fantastically
in a pot and you can just fry up a few
leaves in butter and leave to cool for a
crunchy topping to a risotto or soup.
Share one book that taught you
something amazing about life. The
Book of Joy by His Holiness the Dalai
Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
Probably the most life affirming,
positive and uplifting book I’ve ever
read. I truly believe that if everyone
in the world read this book we would
witness a revolution of kindness and
compassion overnight! It is funny,
relevant, practical and I love it so
much that I used it as my theme for
a whole term of yoga classes, taking a
new chapter each week and exploring
the themes.
What always brings a smile to
your face? I’m always amazed
and delighted to see the inherent
intelligence of our bodies being
woken up through regular yoga
practice. That’s what makes me
smile, helping people to wake up to
themselves.
visual inspiration
In my late teens, I’d spend hours ripping images out of
magazines, and sticking them together into a scrapbook
(which I still have). This was long before vision-boarding
became ‘a thing’ or anyone had thought to invent planners
and jotters that we can customise and fill with our hopes,
dreams and daily gratitude jottings.
Kikki.K have revolutionised things for me on that front. I
invested in their Vision Board, £36, and had the loveliest afternoon (a
rare one with my children at my mother’s), pinning it with snapshots,
keepsakes, and dreamy cuttings that bring me joy and clarity whenever
I look up at them. From their inspirational and inner child-delighting
sticker books and scribble pads, to their Wellness Planner, above right
£54, and Inspiration Journals, from £10, they create stationery that’s
imbued with levity and inspiration (in a way that makes even my epic
to-do lists that little bit less formidable). kikki-k.com
Eminé says:
Try this in July
We often save candle-lighting for the darker
months, but the aromatherapeutic benefits
of a great natural candle can really come
into their own in summer, too. To help
me get up earlier, with brighter energy and
purpose, I love lighting a citrus-y candle,
which wafts through my space, gives me
a flickering, optimistic focal point as I
come to, and brings a little more selfcare
into my life too. I
love the beautiful Scent
to Make You Happy
Uplifting Candle, £65
