10th Year Anniversary Photo Book

Our birthday book is a collection of contributions from each SAFRI graduated cohort, the hard work of the SEEK and UBER squad as well as some digging through the SAFRI newsletters and photo archives. Our 10 year journey is indeed a celebration of our individual journeys as well as the path that FAIMER and SAFRI has forged in promoting health professions education in Africa.

Anthems, and our heart for
Sub-Saharan Africa
First Residential Session
Cape Town, March 2016
First day… LINUS
Working together is better
than working alone
“What is quite marked
is that it’s a very
appreciative
community. No ideas
are too far-fetched or
too small”
“It’s about building
people up…”
Linus, Rudo, Jason, Marybeth,
and Josephine
“…to translate the care and
love that I have received
[from SAFRI] to others and
create a better learning
environment for our students.
And if we create a better
environment for our students,
then they will be better
graduates and better health
care givers and ultimately, we
will be able to serve the
community better.”
Learning for life
“Because we’re happy…”
Let’s turn the world
upside down!
Jules, Tim, and
Corné
“SAFRI has been an
awesome experience
for me. I have learnt
a lot in terms of me
as a teacher. Now I
have a lot of tools
helping me structure
what I do.”
“I’m really
excited.
I’ve learnt
a lot”
“Co-creating
knowledge…”
Finding our own voices…
Astrid
“I’m much more
confident now.
I’m looking
forward to
improving more
and more.”
“Together we can cross
the river”
HAPPY - Honourable,
Approachable, Positive,
Productive, Yearning for
learning…
“SAFRI has changed how I
teach my students. It has
helped me know that we are
not just teaching for service
and promotion. You also have
to consider those you are
teaching to make sure that
you teach them right, in a
way that is more beneficial to
them, and not just the way I
choose to do it.”
“Positive links for
positive outcomes”
Marybeth, Tim, and
Richard
Listening to our students’ voices
Liezl
Fruitful discussions and reflections
“Yeah, we're all wonderful,
wonderful people
So when did we all get so
fearful?
Now we're finally finding
our voices
So take a chance, come
help me sing this…”
From the song ‘Read all
about it, Part III’, by Emile
Sandé
“Collaboration
will
continue…”
Reflections
It’s about our students
“It’s better together…”
“Collectively we will
reach our dream…”
A poem by Fadia about her work in
mental health:
“We’ve heard mental health service users
say it’s a “catch-22”
There’s nowhere to go and nothing to do
OTs have to take a stand and think
outside the box about their game plan
The time is now to integrate, we have no
time to perseverate
Extend your hands, extend your feet,
health and rehab workers are here to
share the heat
We’ve heard it before and we know it for
sure,
There’s no one size for all – that’ll just
cause mental health to fall”
