Annual Report
2017
Vision
To lead the way to
a Jewish community
where everyone lives
with dignity, security,
and hope
Mission
Jewish Family Service of
Cincinnati strengthens lives
and our community by providing
professional social services to
families and individuals in
times of need

Celebrating the Past and
Preparing for the Future
Working together, from generation to generation, our donors
and volunteers have strengthened countless lives in times of
need through the years. With the deepest gratitude from our
professional team and clients, we thank you for the many
ways you’ve helped people in our community. Here are
some of their stories.
“Because of Jewish Family Service, I no longer
feel all alone in the world. I cherish the family I
found here.”
Health problems cost “Susan” her
job, her home and eventually her
life savings. When she came
to Jewish Family Service,
she shared that she’d “lost
everything.” Her care manager
helped her land on her feet
again with a new job, better
budgeting skills, and a strong
emotional support network.
“My Bar Mitzvah Torah portion described helping
others in poverty. I wanted to help feed kids.”
Bryce celebrated becoming a Bar
Mitzvah by donating money and
collecting kid-friendly food for our
Heldman Family Food Pantry. With
its kosher options, the pantry serves
the unique needs of the Jewish
community. It offers a dignified
shopping experience where families
can choose the ingredients for their
favorite recipes.
“I enjoy connecting with my grandchildren, sharing
my artwork and happy memories of my childhood in
the Ukraine.”
Ninety-one year old Elizabeth learned to
use an iPad through our “Tablets and
Technology” program, helping her
reach out to family, explore online,
and reconnect with her birthplace.
With funding available exclusively
for Holocaust survivors, she also
receives help paying for services to
age safely at home.
Responding to the ever changing
needs of our community
New Initiatives
• Bigs & Littles youth mentoring program expanded into
Cincinnati Hebrew Day School, joining Rockwern Academy and
two public schools where mentors helped children improve
social and emotional skills.
• Heldman Family Food Pantry clients learned easy ways to
follow a healthier diet through our innovative collaboration with
University of Cincinnati nutrition graduate students.
• AgeWell Cincinnati was launched in partnership with Mayerson
JCC, the Jewish Home of Cincinnati, and JVS Career Services. It
provides access to resources for those in the Jewish community
who are age 60+ and their families who need a helping hand.
• Center for Holocaust Survivors provided pro bono
comprehensive dental care to eligible victims of Nazi
persecution through a new partnership with the Alpha Omega -
Henry Schein Cares Holocaust Survivors Oral Health Program.
Also, homecare services for Holocaust survivors were expanded
into the Dayton, Ohio area.
• Adoption Connection clients continue to receive postadoption
services such as counseling, birth family information,
and help connecting families, although new placements were
discontinued.
• Center for Russian Speakers, which offers unique culturally
sensitive socialization activities, was opened in collaboration
with Mayerson JCC.
