Greetings from Chesterfield – March 2018
Today we have six inches of snow here in Chesterfield. This
morning at 8.30 a.m. our churchwarden rang to say that the
morning service was cancelled. Our Prayer Flags from Nepal look
at home in the snow.
We have just returned from a trip to Northern Ireland, to visit our
son and his family. There were two highlights of this visit. One
was to see the village Panto, which is put on every year by the
church parishioners. This year it was Sleeping Beauty and our
Granddaughter, Emily, was the Princess. It made me cry, when
she appeared in a wedding dress with the handsome Prince.
The second treat they had for us was a trip to the new Titanic
Quarter in Belfast. We went to see our youngest granddaughter,
Anya, sing with her junior school choir in the Belfast Arena,
which holds 6000 people. At the end of the troubles in Ireland,
they decided to hold a Peace Prom. They formed a wonderful
orchestra from the whole of Ireland and encouraged junior schools
to form choirs. 2000 children and the teachers and parents arrived
by coach from all over the island. When the compere shouted
“GIRAFFES” all the kids stood up straight and stretched their
necks and chins up tall. The music and singing were wonderful.
One little lad danced to the music of the River Dance.
When we returned home, we discovered that a huge Big-wheel
had been erected in our market square. Our daughter came with
her family to spend Mothering Sunday weekend with us, so we
decided to go to town and have a ride on the wheel.
I am looking forward to a trip to the Liverpool Branch AGM in
April. Then it is our National AGM at Barnet hosted by the
London Branch in June. I hope as many of you as possible will
be able to attend.
