Changes to rubbish bags<br />

The rubbish bag system is changing from 1 July, 2018. Instead of getting<br />

a voucher for 52 rubbish bags as part of your rates (or provided by your<br />

landlord), residents will need to purchase bags from Council offices,<br />

online at mpdc.govt.nz, supermarkets or other retailers.<br />

At the moment bags cost $3 but we are dropping this to $2. Currently, as<br />

part of the rates, 52 bags cost you $156, but with the reduction, 52 bags<br />

will only cost $104. We want to see less going into landfill and also help<br />

save you money. Recycling tin, plastics labeled 1-7, clean cardboard and<br />

paper in your kurbside bin, and unbroken glass in the green crate can<br />

reduce household rubbish headed for landfill. But we think we can do<br />

even more. Recycling soft plastics through selected supermarkets and<br />

composting vegetable and fruits scraps and garden waste are also<br />

rubbish bin space savers. Consider whether you really need 52 bags a<br />

year and work towards putting out a bag fortnightly or monthly.<br />

Need a tip! Say no to soft plastic bags and use reusable bags for grocery<br />

& retail shopping. Keep one in the back seat or your handbag.<br />

Keep the district the right kind of green<br />

We have recently noticed an increase in stock trucks dumping effluent on/<br />

alongside the road. This is unacceptable and not good practice as there are<br />

stock effluent dumping facilities available throughout the district.<br />

We are working with police on the issue and want to see repeat offenders<br />

prosecuted. If you see trucks dumping effluent on or alongside the road,<br />

please note down the number plate and company name. Take note of any<br />

geographical indicators of where the dumping took place such as nearest<br />

mailbox or dairy number.<br />

Take photos (if you can do so safely) and include the time of day it occured<br />

as some trucks may have more than one driver. Report it to Council on<br />

Husband and wife, Jordan and Steve of Akauola<br />

Fitness have grown their business over the past 4<br />

years and recently formed the ATeam. Together<br />

they have also developed a strong team training<br />

community. The couple have been in the industry<br />

for 10 years and between them have a vast amount<br />

of experience working with children, athletes and<br />

individuals embarking on their own fitness journeys.<br />

Team training has become a popular component of the ATeam, as they<br />

currently offer a membership in conjunction with Flex Fitness which<br />

gives people full access to the gym and unlimited classes for just $36<br />

per week! Their monthly challenges and summer bootcamps have also<br />

proven popular over the years thanks to its military spin off and team<br />

Whilst juggling their business, family life and the ever<br />

expanding fitness industry, Jordan and Steve have<br />

– making them the only Myzone license holders in the<br />

district. Myzone heart rate monitors track ones effort<br />

Te Aroha Little Theatre’s third production of the year will be Roger Hall’s ‘Middle Age<br />

Spread’. Originally written in the Early 80’s it is<br />

still very relevant to today’s lifestyle and<br />

very funny to boot. This production is<br />

scheduled to play at the end of October.<br />

The show will be directed by Paul<br />

Ferguson and John Remfry and they will<br />

hold auditions on the Sunday 8 th and<br />

Sunday 15 th July, between 2 and 4 pm, at<br />

the Little Theatre in Honi Street Te Aroha.<br />

The production requires 6 characters, 3<br />

male and 3 female, ages range from 30 to 60<br />

years. If you have ever fancied having a go at<br />

acting come along to the auditions and see if it’s for<br />

you, no experience necessary, it will be a friendly relaxed audition. This promises to<br />

be a very funny show and you could be part of it.

CIVIC RECOGNITION & ACKNOWLEDGEMENT<br />

Callout to woman suffering serious cardiac event<br />

The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Te Aroha just before 4 pm on May 9th<br />

to airlift a 54-year-old female who was experiencing a serious cardiac event. She was stablised by<br />

paramedics at the scene before being flown to Waikato Hospital for further treatment.<br />

Without community support, some of these emergency services would struggle to operate. Any<br />

time of the day or night, any day of the week, any week of any year these emergency services can<br />

Civic Awards Presentation<br />

On Monday May 21 st in assembly Civic Awards were presented to Te Aroha College staff and students<br />

and members of the local St. Johns Ambulance, Volunteer Fire Brigade and Police Force for their roles<br />

in saving the life of fellow community citizen. The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter team were<br />

also acknowledged at the presentation. Mayor Jan Barnes gave the message to the assembly of the<br />

importance of being first aid trained.<br />
