Change is here
As of 1 July, rubbish bags became user pays. This means you decide
how many you need per week, month or year.
Council's ultimate goal is to reduce the amount of rubbish headed
for landfill. You can help by doing small things at home, such as
composting or investing in a worm farm. Place unbroken glass in the
green crate and recycle washed tins, cans, clean carboard and paper
and plastics labelled 1-7 in the recycling bin.
Did you know soiled nappies, food scraps, unwashed cans and items
with oil and grease placed in the recycling bin can contaminate an
entire recycling truck's load? This means that truck's entire load may
not be recycled and end up in landfill instead.
Rubbish minimisation tip: Buy a reusuable coffee cup and keep it
in your car or handbag for days when you need a coffee on the run.
You can also get reusable smoothie cups and stainless steel straws.
Making small changes in our everyday lives can make a powerful
difference to our environment.
Volunteer Youth Awards 2018
Do you know a young person aged 12-24 (as of 30 August) who is doing volunteer
work in the Matamata-Piako District?
Last year the Volunteer Youth Ambassadors launched the annual Youth Awards as
a way to celebrate the work of youth in our district. Nominations for the 2018 Youth
Awards are open now. You can find the nomination form at mpdc.nz/youthawards.
The awards will be held on 30 August at the Matamata-Piako Civic and Memorial
Centre in Matamata. New Zealand comedian and teen suicide prevention advocate
Mike King will be the guest speaker.
Don’t get lost in the fog
Slippery and foggy roads can be hazardous in winter and drivers
who don’t drive to the conditions can add to those hazards.
Turn your vechicle lights on when driving in fog, drive slower when
it’s wet and there is low visability and always wear your seatbelt.
It’s not only drivers who need to take care. If you enjoy running, walking
and cycling in the early mornings or late evenings, wear reflective
clothing or head lamps to ensure drivers see you in the fog or low light.
FLEX FITNESS
MORRINSVILLE
Phone: 0278426217
Facebook: scfitness.pt
I understand the journey to a
healthier, happier and fitter
version of yourself, as I have
been through it myself. My
specialties are weight loss,
strength training, small group
personal training, mobility/
rehabilitation work and sports
specific conditioning.
I focus on helping my clients create a balanced lifestyle and a
solid training foundation on which they can grow and achieve
their individual goals.
What is a balanced lifestyle and why is it important?
I believe a balanced lifestyle is becoming a healthier, happier
and fitter version of yourself. It is a lifestyle change that
happens over time and is not a quick fix. It is important
to recognise we all have different goals, priorities and
commitments which means that everyone’s work/life balance
will look different. For myself, having balance means involving
my love of being outdoors. I aim to spend as much of my free
time as I can outside. To satisfy this, I fit in 3-4 gym based
workouts per week and then enjoy everything else outdoors,
taking my dogs for a walk, riding my horses and on the
weekends going for bush walks. A balanced diet contains good
high quality fruit, vegetables, protein sources, carbohydrates
and limited processed foods. The most important thing about
a balanced diet is that you can go out and enjoy a coffee and
cake with friends and not feel guilty about it! Once you have
created balance within your lifestyle you will have more
success in achieving your health and fitness goals.
Creating a solid training foundation:
Setting a solid training foundation is a big focus with all my
clients. To do this, we establish correct
form
throughout our basic movement patterns
such as, hip hinging, squats and lunging,
to name a few. By creating
a correct training foundation you are
able to work correctly and safely towards
individual goals.
What does SC fitness offer/provide:
Joining TeamSC is much more than having a
personal trainer or a tailored programme. You
become part of a community of like-minded
individuals all on their own health and fitness
journey. You also gain exclusive access to the closed
Facebook group TeamSC, where you receive a weekly
workout, recipes and a place for members to come
together as a community.
Client Transformation
Rachel first came to SC Fitness last year looking to increase her
fitness. After having a brain tumour in her
cerebellum removed, her goals were to build lean muscle mass
and improve her posture and balance.
In the last year, we have accomplished the above and much
more!
• Improved posture - GROWN 4cm!!
• Increased lean muscle mass and muscular strength
• Achieved amazing balance, which is something she
was told she would struggle with
• Dropped a couple of dress sizes
Rachel’s determination and dedication to achieve her goals
has been second to none. I am so proud of what
she has achieved in the last year and cannot wait to see what
she can achieve in the future.
FlexiTip
Couscous should be
light and fluffy, not
gummy. Be sure to allow
the couscous to absorb
the water and then fluff
with a fork.
1. Bring a pot of water to boil and boil the kumara till cooked
and set aside. If a knife can slip into a piece of kumara
easily and come out, it’s cooked!
2. In a big pan heat the oil and cook onion, garlic and all the
spices till fragrant. Then add the chicken and brown.
3. Add the tomatoes and chickpeas and simmer until chicken
is cooked through.
4. To prepare the couscous, in a bowl pour one cup of boiling
water over the 1 cup of dry couscous. Cover and allow the
couscous to swell for 5 minutes. Fluff up the couscous with
a fork and stir into the chicken dish along with the cooked
kumara. Top with fresh coriander to serve.

Real Estate
Update
with Peter Lissington
Residential Round-Up
Buyers now have more choice in the Morrinsville residential market.
We have seen almost a 50% increase in the number of listings
available in the market to what we saw at the beginning of the year.
Motivated vendors should price competitively and invest in a strong
marketing campaign to target buyers. Investor activity has softened
but there is still strong demand for entry level property priced below
$400,000 in desirable locations.
We are moving towards a balanced real estate climate which is ideal
for both sellers and buyers.
Rural Round-Up
Well after a very kind autumn the winter has given us plenty of rain.
We have some good grass cover and we are starting to see calves on
the ground.
Farmers and farm owners are also starting to think about selling or
buying a farm in the spring or during the season.
We at Property Brokers have 10 or so farms signed up for Spring
marketing campaigns. I know this sounds early but there are
several valid reasons for this. Firstly, all photography is done and the
information can be collected and information packs put together
including nitrogen reference figures. It is important to supply all the
relevant information to help prospective purchasers to do their due
diligence within the marketing period.
Secondly, it gives Vendors time over winter to do the jobs to present
their property for sale. Things like painting, fencing, and a general
tidy up, first impressions are really important.
The market has been steady with several late season sales. Interest
rates are still very favourable and the forecast pay-out looking like $7
might be achievable.
With the Mycoplasma Bovis on many peoples’ minds we are
receiving enquiry for runoffs and/or self-contained farms and also
around a few changes to our approach to open days and farm visits.
