Environment
An environmentally compatible and sustainable way of doing business is becoming increasingly important for
companies in the engineered wood and timber processing industry. Pfleiderer stands for sensible resource
management and the systematic conservation of our natural environment.
FSC and PEFC are leading institutions in the field of sustainable forest management, a vital force in promoting
sustainable forestry and advancing environmental consciousness. Pfleiderer fully supports their schemes by offering
an extensive range of FSC and PEFC certified products.
With our range of low formaldehyde boards (CARB2/EPF-S, ‚Blue Angel‘ environmental label, LivingBoard,
JIS F**** ), we prove our active commitment to ‚healthy living and building‘. Our innovation ‚BalanceBoard‘
in particular helps to conserve the increasingly scarce resource wood. Fast-growing economic plants are used in
the production, replacing a certain proportion of timber. In this way, Pfleiderer contributes to the preservation of
our forests for future generations.
All of our German production sites have been successfully awarded the international environmental management
standard ISO 14001 certification, please see our separate brochure on Sustainability at Pfleiderer Industries, and
our Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for LivingBoard for more information.
Chipboard - extremely versatile panels
Chipboard has a firm place in furniture and interior construction both as a core and a construction material.
Its versatility in terms of applications and its good workability are only two of the reasons why chipboards
have grown into the quantitatively most important engineered timber product.
Chipboard is manufactured from forest-grown timber, sawdust and, to a certain extent, from pollutant-free recycled
wood. The timber used is mainly softwood (fir, pine) and, to a lesser extent (

BalanceBoard
Pfleiderer‘s development of BalanceBoard is yet another step that proves we are one of the most sustainabilityminded
companies in the timber processing and wood engineering industry.
Pfleiderer BalanceBoard is only partially timber-derived. Fast-growing economic plants are used as a replacement
for the increasingly scarce raw material wood. These are raw materials growing near our production sites,
they are available in large quantities, and do not have to be transported long distances.
They can be worked and handled as usual, and their transportation is more energy-efficient. BalanceBoard heralds
the birth of a new generation of core materials!
