City of Ryde councillors unanimously voted to support a motion by Clr Dr Peter Kim to request General Manager George Dedes to investigate expansion options and report his findings at an upcoming councillor workshop. Mr Dedes has been specifically requested to investigate future population growth and current and future library locations as well funding opportunities. His investigation is also expected to include development options at the current library site next to Eastwood Oval which are limited by flood related issues, a lack of car parking and structural limitations. Councillors want the library to provide an environment that fosters investigation and provides new technology. The same organisation has also helped over 1000 vulnerable clients with complex financial and other emotional needs. A single parent with two young children was in desperate need. This organisation sourced a second hand fridge, purchased a new washing machine and provided her with nappies and baby clothing. This organisation runs a discount community store, supplying healthy, nutritious food and fresh fruit and vegetables to the needy. One grateful customer said “With my health concerns, the ladies in the store have helped me to plan healthy meals that meet my new dietary requirements... I used to rely on easy, precooked microwave dinners and had no idea how to put together a meal. Now, with access to affordable vegetables and tips from the ladies in the store I can cook and prepare my own healthy meals.” Aside from helping the most vulnerable, this organisation also enriches the lives of hundreds more each week by offering adult leisure learning classes teaching arts and craft, photography, sports, tai chi, and music. You may not hear the name of this organisation very often because they don’t spend tens of thousands of dollars marketing themselves. They prefer to invest on helping people instead. They are Eastwood Christian Community Aid and they’ve operated from the same humble premises on Lakeside Road for over 40 years.
